X-tremes

X is for X-tremes

This week’s letter assignment is the letter X

I thought I’d share some X-tremes we have run across on the lake. Starting with some X-treme Homes. . .

This home is one of my favorites on the lake. . .

X-treme craftsmanship  and detail. . .

This home has x-treme water views, with water on three sides. . .

We watched this home being built~ I’m afraid this home owner is x-tremely color blind. . .

X-treme copper turrets, dwarfing the neighbor’s house next door. . .

This is the other x-treme seen on our lake.

I like the idea of being right on the water, but this would make me x-tremely nervous. . .

This x-tremely adorable boat house has everything you would need for a weekend get away :-)

This is something we hadn’t seen before on the lake~

An X-treme Airport~ this would certainly make your morning commute x-tremely easy :-)

An x-tremely large boat with an x-tremely small  cover. . .

This is an X-treme Pontoon/Tiki Bar.

Complete with a hammock and potted palm trees~

X-tremely Distressing. . .

X-tremely Cheery :-)

X-tremely good odds for catching fish. . .

 X-tremely better odds :-)

I am X-tremely Grateful for everyone’s kind comments and visits since I joined Blogland in January. In appreciation, I thought I would throw a Thank You Coffee for my tablescape this week.

This Mark Roberts’ Birds Nest Fairy was a birthday gift (thank you Pam :-)  so I perched him on some boxes for an impromtu centerpiece next to a bird’s nest.

Help yourself to muffins, fruit, and mini quiches. There is juice & coffee. . .

I set the table with my Portmeirion Botanic Garden and added these mugs that I ran across at Home Goods~ they were in a three pack, by Rose of England.

This ceramic glazed bird bath I found at Target this spring. I have plans to use it indoors rather than out. I thought it would be a fun to use to serve your muffins :-)

My x-treme thanks for your comments and visits and

thanks to my hostesses to this week’s parties I’m linking to:

Love your x post. Those are some mega mansions and then quite the opposite. Love your table setting, too.

  2. June 30, 2010 at 8:48 pm

When I see huge houses like that, my first thought is “who cleans them?” LOL! Love the tiki bar—very cute! Your table setting is so pretty, with your botanical china. I debated , for weeks, about buying that adorable bird bath at Target. Glad you bought it!

The meal was wonderful! Thanks for sharing. I loved the larger homes. I would rather live in one of the smaller ones. It would be fun to go to a party on the boat.

  4. June 30, 2010 at 8:56 pm

I am so pleased that I am not the only one that took creative license with the letter X. Great post!

  5. June 30, 2010 at 9:19 pm

I could most certainly live in one of those homes as long as I had an Xtremely good staff and an Xtreme amount of money to pay them!!!

  6. June 30, 2010 at 9:20 pm

Those are some incredible mansions!!!!! Love your bird bath.

Hope you’ll come and join my weekly meme, “Summer Sundays”. It’s all about what summer means to YOU!

Oh my goodness. I would totally take that cute beach house in the middle, too! It is perfect.

The McMansions always make me laugh. Where do people get so much money anyway?

This was really a creative use of the letter “X”! I’m impressed with your ingenuity and astonished with your table setting. I really love the botanicals in this one.

Thank you for linking and helping to make Alphabe-Thursday such an X-cellent meme.

    A+

Your table is so awesome! I love the birds, they are so cute and the polka dot napkins, oh my, love those!
And the McMansions are quite beautiful but i wouldn’t want to clean them!

  9. June 30, 2010 at 9:34 pm

Oh my goodness, Mary….I have coveted that Portmeirion Botanic Garden china for years. I just love it & have only a few teacups & saucers. It is just beautiful & you’ve done such a neat & creative tablescape with it. Charming!!

  11. June 30, 2010 at 9:49 pm

Beautiful tablescape. Those must be some xtremely rich people that live there that they have those kind of homes lol. Holy Smokes!!

  12. June 30, 2010 at 9:49 pm

What wowzer houses! Your tablesetting is charming and I love your Mark Roberts fairy. The dishes are a perfect complement and thanks for the invitation to breakfast.

  13. June 30, 2010 at 9:52 pm

Your tablescape is wonderful and some of those houses look like hotels!

  14. June 30, 2010 at 10:16 pm

I work in the office of some home appraisers here in Michigan and they would call these homes “quite a shack”. Great post.

  15. June 30, 2010 at 10:34 pm

Well… I am not a big house person, so those houses just seem ridiculous to me. I like sweet little cozy cottages…. the size of house where one would actually would see their family.

  16. June 30, 2010 at 10:47 pm

Everything is so pretty! I love your dishes and the way you put everything together. The food looks delicious.

Holy Cow! Please tell me that people at least live in these year round. If that’s someone’s idea of a weekend lake house, I’m going to fall over. I actually prefer that tiny boat house. Oh, heck, who am I kidding, if I could live on the water I’d live in that Tiki bar :) Great choice for X.

  18. June 30, 2010 at 11:05 pm

i have said it since day one, i am sooooooo glad you blog!

your xtremes had me xcited! your fav house is mine too… what lake is this to have such xtremes? everything you share is just gorgeous, it must be large?

  19. June 30, 2010 at 11:11 pm

Fantastic post! I love the floating flowers and the big boat/ small cover….many wonderful photos:-) Peace and blessings

  20. July 1, 2010 at 1:41 am

I see you posted pictures of some of my modest homes. I hope you find them pretty enough. I would prefer them to be bigger, but the lot sizes only allow for the small size. What are you going to do?

  21. July 1, 2010 at 2:31 am

    What a house!

An eXtreme thank you for the invitation!
Some of the houses on your lake make me eXtremely nervous – the size! How could one ever relaX in such a place……perhaps there’s lots of staff, but then that would just be more to worry about! Give me a simple A-frame anyday!

Those poor, poor people who don’t have a cent to their names!

    Great, interesting post!!

  24. July 1, 2010 at 8:00 am

Well I came over from TT to see your tablescape but I have to say I really enjoyed the Xtreme home tour! And I thought we had some cream of the crops here on Lake Murray! My Gosh! Those are amazing! I love the Xtremely big boat w/the Xtremely small cover. LOL! Too funny! These are great! Love your birdie dishes and the treats looks delicious! Happy 4th!

  25. July 1, 2010 at 9:20 am

Your table is so inviting. I love the birdbath and the bird cups. Food looks great too!

  26. July 1, 2010 at 9:24 am

Your blog has quickly became one of my favorites. I check every morning, looking for new posts!

Love all the drool-worthy houses. We live in Virginia Beach, and when we boat, we see a lot of x-treme houses too. One of them even has a helicopter too! Ah, it would be tough to have to live that way. LOL!

  27. July 1, 2010 at 10:28 am

Very Xtreme! We live on a lake but no homes quite that big. Have a wonderful 4th. Debbie

  28. July 1, 2010 at 10:49 am

Super X post! Every detail of your table is a feast for the eyes! And the food . . . oh, my goodness!
I sooooo long my visits to your Boat. LOL
As for the X-tremes, are these second homes? This must be some amazingly large lake. Your favorite would be mine as well.
Hope you have an eXtremely fine 4th of July! ~ Sarah

  29. July 1, 2010 at 10:57 am

What an extremely wonderful post! We also live at the lake, but don’t see houses like these very often!
    Your tablescape looks yummy!!!

what it must be like to live in some of those mansions?

  31. July 1, 2010 at 1:33 pm

I was X-tremely enjoying those photos. That was done very well and kept me entertained. I also loved the tablescape. I keep thinking I will participate in that blog party but forget about it until it is too late. I am x-tremely glad I don’ t have to clean one of those big houses though, I am x-tremely aware of the fact that they probably have maids….plural.

  32. July 1, 2010 at 2:01 pm

I love your tablescape. Portmeirion is always pretty and the mugs are a really nice addition to that. Very cute with all the little nestsand birds. I wish you a very nice weekend.
    Greetings, Johanna

X-tremely interesting X post! You do always seem to find both extremes with lake living.
    Beautiful tablescape.

X-tremely well done. I enjoyed the different X-tremes on the lake. I guess we could afford a lake side home after all. All we have to do is find a used trailer. There’s still hope.

    Beautiful table too!

  36. July 1, 2010 at 2:59 pm

Wow, those are some x-treme homes. I love the boat with all the fishing poles. He is really serious about catching a fish! Beautiful tablescape too :)

It amazes me how beautiful some homes are on the lake – especially when you know they are just summer homes.
    Great post!

Hi everyone! Thanks for your comments :-) There is a link for Lake Norman here- it has 520 miles of shoreline.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lake_Norman

These are Xtreme Homes- still lots of modest homes, (our cottage :-) but more & more, the lake is becoming less “sleepy”-
I’m sure these are permanent residences. There are a few I know of that are multi-million $ homes that are “vacation” homes. I think if you have one of these, you have a cleaning crew :-)

Someof those mansions are amazing, but I’m not sure I’d feel comfortable owning something so big and plush. I agree about the colour blind owner! Euuugh!

  40. July 1, 2010 at 6:44 pm

Wow, I bet it took a while to find all those extreme houses…..what a great post. I loved the tablescape, i have lots of the Botanical plates and I love them. Thanks for the lovely table scape.

  41. July 1, 2010 at 10:44 pm

    cute!

  42. July 2, 2010 at 10:12 am

Thank you for the lovely coffee to finish out your wonderful photography. Whoa… some of those houses are amazing. What a mix of extremes and interesting and creative shots. Thank you.

  43. July 2, 2010 at 10:45 am

I wonder just how happy those people are who are in those homes?
My experience has shown me that outward extravagances make for little comfort, once the door is closed…sadly, I know families like that.
So I opt to take bits and pcs of those homes and build a less Xtreme :) mini cottage!
    But admittedly they are BREATHTAKING:)

Moreover, loved your vignettes…that is living! :)

    Hi Lake Neighbor!

SA-WEET X post!! I swear I’ve seen the Joker speed boat out on the water before! There are some CRAZY houses on the lake – makes me think I’m in Naples, Florida sometimes! My friend’s house is up by Governor’s Point and that little strip cracks me up, too. I hope you have a wonderful 4th on the lake!!! The weather is perfect right now. I walked over to Panera for lunch, and it’s delightful outside after weeks of this ridiculous heat!

    Lovely centerpiece as well!
