Thanksgiving Lakeside Tablescape

I set a table lakeside for Thanksgiving taking advantage of the last of the Fall color and warm temperatures. . .

I soaked some oasis & filled a pumpkin for a centerpiece again this week using roses, sunflowers, daisies, and Hypericum berries from the market along with leaves & clippings from our shrubs. A visit to the produce section for some artichokes, apples & salad savoy help fill the gaps and add some texture and interest.

A centerpiece like this will last several days before some materials (mainly the garden clippings & salad savoy) will have to be replaced.  In fact this centerpiece looked better two days later when the roses had a chance to open up a bit~ just be sure to keep it in a cool place, out of direct sunlight to slow down the evaporation process and help it last longer.

I also lined the inside of the pumpkin with plastic bags to prevent any water from the oasis from seeping into the bottom of the pumpkin vase for a longer life.

I’ve gotten my money’s worth out of my little tiger striped pumpkins this season~ last week at the table and this week filled with plant material & flowers for individual vases for each of the four place settings.

It would be fun to take it one step further and add a place card tucked or picked in place for each guest~

These were quick & easy to make~ soaking the oasis for 30 minutes and filling with bits of rosemary, clippings from shrubs, daisies and a Sweetgum ball. I’m making an effort to celebrate the Sweetgum, rather than curse the abundance of these prolific & prickly little gumballs this Fall :)

Oh, Mary! You make me feel so welcome at your beautiful tables that I feel like I should be booking my flight! This is so beautiful. We’ve all been seeing sooooo many fall tables by now, but this takes it to a place we haven’t been. You have such a knack for adding fruit and vegetables to centerpieces. You reign as queen of the produce! I used these little striped pumpkins at a luncheon recently and I put a small mum plant in each one as a favor. My guests were able to plant them, as they were landscape mums and they were a most unusual shade. It was so fun to see them all lined up before the lunch, knowing that they were going home to gardeners and that they might be coming back for years in their gardens. m Thank you for your lovely posts. I never miss one of yours, as they are always so special.

So beautiful! Tranquil and lovely by the water. The centerpiece is amazing and the smaller pumpkins on the plates are perfect. Love the addition of the fruit throughout. I really can’t say enough about how pretty this whole scene is. Sending Happy Thanksgiving wishes to you!

If the food is a quarter as good as the setting, the feast will be amazing! I love the pumpkin floral arrangement – and thanks for the tip about lining it with plastic bags.

    Mary,
This tablescape is stunning! You really are an artist with natural materials. All of the colors you’ve used in the centerpiece and the small pumpkins are just gorgeous. I especially like the roses mixed in with the other things. Your dishes take a back seat to your floral displays, but I did notice them because my sister-in-law has the same dishes.

Mary, each detail is gorgeous. Clever idea to use the little tiger pumpkins as petit vases for each individual setting. A nice little favor for a guest to take home. Your lakeside setting makes this all perfection. Wish I were there dining with you.
    Happy Thanksgiving! ~ sarah

Mary I think this is one of the loveliest Thanksgiving tables I’ve seen. I adore the pumpkin vase and flowers. Just beautiful and abundant like the holiday should be. Of course with a gorgeous backdrop like the lake it really shines. I am wishing you the most wonderful Thanksgiving ever!

Mary your table is drop dead gorgeous. Everything you do here is gorgeous! I love to see the arrival of your emails. Its like opening a gift in the mail.

Love the plaid throw. I have a bunch of red plaids for Christmas but none of these beautiful autumn plaids. I’m now going to be on the hunt. I wanted to do the same type of floral thing with pumpkins but after Halloween the pumpkins were gone….NOWHERE To be found. All the grocers and fruit stand people said that as of halloween they dispose of them immediately. Taught me a new lesson to be more on the ball. I love your deep flower filled orange variegated pumpkin and the flower filled baby pumpkins just are the cherry on top. Its all over the top fabulous.

I am a brand new blogger with a brand new blog and am so glad I found you and signed up. You are a real inspiration to me. I know I have alot to do to come up to your level but by golly its a new goal for me and I know I”m going to learn from the best because you are one of them. Thanks Mary for sharing your beautiful tablescape. It took my breath away.

  15. November 20, 2011 at 9:10 pm

I love everything about your table. The large centerpiece is spectacular and the tiger pumpkin arrangements are darling. Your close up shots show it off so well. The roses are ever so nice and I really like the apples and artichokes with all the berries, leaves, and sunflowers. The fall foliage all around the lake is glorious. Turkey plates are especially attractive and the plaid throw serves as a great background to delight the eye with everything on the table. I hope you have a WONDERFUL THANKSGIVING!

  16. November 20, 2011 at 11:27 pm

Hi Mary, Stunning table and photography! You definitely got your money’s worth out of your little pumpkins, and all of your ideas were a delight! I have the same plates, not sure if I’m using them or not. I may go a bit more formal, depending on how many people decide to come. Right now, I think I’m at 12. Your lake pictures are so beautiful and everything looks so inviting! Thanks again for sharing a lovely tablesetting!

The next time I have a fall luncheon club lunch at my house, I am definitely going to do this. Just plain gorgeous!

  19. November 21, 2011 at 1:58 pm

Another beautiful table in a tranquil setting. I could really use some “tranquil” these days. I love your individual pumpkin/floral arrangements. I have no time to do it this year, but it’s a great idea for the future.

    Happy Thanksgiving,Mary!

Thanks Mary for your comments on my blogspot. It meant alot to me. I’m from what I call the old country and am trying to learn to be trendier. I decided you must be a floral designer in another life. (smile) I’ve looked at alot of your blog but I have a lot more to go. As I said before I’m in awe of you and your talent. Sincerely, N.

Mary, your table is once again so gorgeous. I love the centerpiece and that you have explained how it was created. I am flower-arranging-challenged so I enjoy reading about the how-to’s. The centerpiece and the individual place setting pumpkins are just beautiful.

I love the layering of the dish stack, as well. The woven chargers are a nice touch to keep the look less formal. Those white chargers are great; they add a lot of interest to the stack.

I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving! Thank you for sharing such beautiful posts with us!

  24. November 23, 2011 at 10:58 pm

Such a welcoming and lovely touch. The COLORS of the table covering are GORGEOUS! Love the idea of the 2 chargers too. Wishing you a happy and blessed Thanksgiving, Mary. XO, Pinky

Ay yi yi!!! Your floral talent is really shining through this week!!! Each and every pumpkin is beautiful and abundant! What a fabulous idea! I wish I had the patience to cut and scoop them out. I would love to make a centerpiece like this one, but my patience is next to nothing! Maybe I can bribe a crafty neighbor into that part of it! :-) I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving!!!
