You have no idea of how many seagulls fly in the sky of Rome! ;)

I can almost hear them! Nothing sounds like summer more than waves and seagulls:@)

  4. January 24, 2012 at 7:51 am

We always look forward to the return of the Gulls at the lake. We truly enjoy watching them. Beautiful images, Mary.

  5. January 24, 2012 at 8:42 am

Does this mean that spring is not far behind? If so, yipeeeeeeeee!

  6. January 24, 2012 at 9:18 am

I do love seagulls! I know, I’m crazy … but they are so much fun to watch. Loved this post!!!!!!

Having lived on a lake in Florida, I truly miss the various species of birds that were always “in my backyard”..How wonderful are they…

  8. January 24, 2012 at 9:46 am

The year has passed quickly. It seems nature is all a flutter with birds returning. Great pics. I had not realized your lake is so near the ocean to attract sea gulls. Just never thought about it.

  9. January 24, 2012 at 10:19 am

Are they heading North??? Does this mean they know Spring is around the corner? I sure hope so!

  10. January 24, 2012 at 11:26 am

When I was recently in Rockport, I couldn’t get over the number of gulls floating on ice floes in the harbor. I think the difference is that in the summer they are much busier as compared with the winter months when they seem to huddle more. I like to do that with friends, too!

  11. January 24, 2012 at 11:32 am

What fun photos! Is this a sign of spring? I sure hope so.

  12. January 24, 2012 at 12:22 pm

Hi, Mary. Love this fun post! Some people don’t like seagulls, but I do–they mean WATER!! Love your photography. Thanks for sharing. ~Zuni

  13. January 24, 2012 at 1:59 pm

I would be sunning with them if they would have me:)

  14. January 24, 2012 at 4:51 pm

Fantastic captures of these gulls. I have some rather sedate ones in my post ;-)

  15. January 24, 2012 at 5:40 pm

The gulls certainly have their own special way of establishing ownership of a territory! Reading the small print on the contract is not an option! And like you, I love watching the antics of these characters! Great photos!

  16. January 24, 2012 at 6:27 pm

Around here, seagulls mean a shopping center and garbage!!! They are all over the palce. But I love to see them at the beach! XO, Pinky

  17. January 24, 2012 at 6:36 pm

Looks like the waterfront here in Seattle!! Terrific captures! I do love to watch them! Enjoy your evening!

All I can think of is the movie The Birds:) They’re beautiful in flight, aren’t they?

  19. January 24, 2012 at 8:01 pm

Great shots. They’ve really taken over haven’t they. Any group of birds always reminds me of the movie “The Birds.” :-)

That is a lot of seagulls, Mary! I see them often in my area as they never seem to leave. They like to look for clams and mussels when the marsh tides go out.

  21. January 24, 2012 at 8:56 pm

they really are back…. lots of birds!

  32. January 25, 2012 at 1:39 pm

love your photos, it’s been my dream for sometime now, to live on the water. And I love your reference to Jonathon Livingston Seagull, one of my favorite Bach books

  33. January 25, 2012 at 3:15 pm

I know what else they’re doing on that pier too :) They are fun to watch.

  34. January 25, 2012 at 4:47 pm

you have nore gulls then i ever see at the beach all year! wonderful shots, hows the noise factor :)

  35. January 25, 2012 at 5:19 pm

We have a lot of seagulls in Utah. I know, I know, we don’t have a sea, so why the seagulls? They love the great Salt Lake. When I first moved here from FL, it was really weird seeing them flying around. It was actually a little disorienting to wake up hearing them and not be in Florida!

  36. January 25, 2012 at 5:29 pm

Gulls are such fun to watch and photograph!

  43. January 25, 2012 at 9:42 pm

Wow! They are back! And I thought I was lucky to see a bald eagle this week!

  44. January 25, 2012 at 10:45 pm

What lovely shots! There are so many visiting!

  45. January 25, 2012 at 11:46 pm

We see seagulls at our inland lake too, nothing like you’d see at the ocean though. They create problems roosting on flat roofs and predator birds are brought in to chase them away.

  46. January 26, 2012 at 12:48 am

I know that some call them a nuisance, but they are such elegant creatures of God. Thanks for being a part of Seasonal Sundays.

Can’t decide if you’re glad they’re back? The numbers seem a bit overwhelming but I’m sure they put on quite a show. Love the post guards in the 3rd photo. Enjoyed your mosaic at the end. I need to learn how to do that.

  48. January 26, 2012 at 2:00 am

Reminds me of the story I saw on the news this evening about the town in Alabama (I think) where they had an invasion of some kind of birds….starlings, perhaps…anyway, people had to get out their umbrellas and not because it was raining…heehee. Nice photos!

  49. January 26, 2012 at 10:39 am

Dear Mary , ” Jonathan L. Seagull ” and Richard Bach have changed my perspective on life and the way I see seagulls ….a brilliant book ! Your photos capture the ” triumph of the free spirit ” ….Amazing !

  50. January 26, 2012 at 3:46 pm

    Wonderful!

Flocks of seagulls fly through the stands after SF Giant games. It’s as if they know when the action is over, and they come to eat the leftover hot dogs and fries.

It’s a pretty marvelous sight to seem them swoop through.

    =)

  51. January 27, 2012 at 9:44 pm

I can watch them for hours!!! They are interesting…but they can also leave quite a mess behind!!! Our dock is sometimes covered!!!

  52. January 28, 2012 at 8:34 pm

Oh I am familiar with these guys. They are fun to watch.

    January 28, 2012 at 9:37 pm

They are fun to watch! We even have them in the Walmart parking lot ;o) Visiting from Seasonal Sundays.

  54. January 28, 2012 at 10:43 pm

    Hi Mary,

These are such fun pictures. :) You did a great job of catching some of these gulls in mid-flight. The instructor in our photography class last fall told us that takes a bit of practice to do without the wings being just a total blur. I’m always impressed with your photography.

I love birds, too, seagulls included. When we take the Oak Island Ferry in the summer the gulls always follow us the whole way; they know they’ll be getting bread crumbs. ;-)

Thanks for sharing and Happy Seasonal Sunday Mary!

And I’m hoping that spring is just around the corner! Loving just thinking about the sounds of sea gulls.

  56. January 29, 2012 at 3:16 pm

Living right off one of the Great Lakes, we have a lot of seagulls as well. They can be so amusing to watch!

  57. January 30, 2012 at 8:27 pm

I haven’t thought of Jon in years!

Gosh…that was right there with Love Story in my memory.

What a jaunty little link for the letter J.

    Your pictures were quite fun!
