I gathered some plaid, some pine cones, and a few pommes ~ apples :) to bring a little color to the table, surrounded by a grey & dreary landscape.
Cold & rainy weather has me reaching for a few warm layers, both inside and out~
A grey and black plaid throw, that kept the chickadees cozy, is layered over a red matelassé coverlet~
I took a page fromWinter World and filled my lanterns with snowy white orbs & pine cones~ but with some red botanical accents (vase filler found at Target) for a punch of bright, cheery color.
My lanterns are surrounded with bits of reindeer moss, a few nuts, and some shiny, red delicious apples for color and~ confession time~ for camouflage. The bases of my well-used lanterns to beginning to show signs of pitting & rust since they’re either on our porch or sit outside by our chairs.
Santa’s sleigh made a pit stop at HomeGoods to deliver these Lauren Skylar & Skylar Rose plates to my table this Christmas.
Not only does Santa see you when you’re sleeping~ he sees you when you’re shopping too~ a scary thought :)
I found these plaid cupcake liners online and whipped up some Red Velvet cupcakes from a box mix, with cream cheese frosting.
Inspired by Gum Drop Roses from What’s New Cupcake~ I embellished my cupcakes~ a fun & easy project, especially with Valentine’s Day approaching.
For fast growing roses~
Start by planting your gum drop or fruit slice in the microwave for 5 seconds. Next, fertilize~ on bed of sugar~ to prevent your candy from sticking, and roll out with a rolling pin. Prune your gum drop with kitchen shears and shape~ adding additional pieces and watch your rose bloom :)
Best of all they are easy to grow~ no thorns, pesky insects, or black spot to worry about with these roses :)
I blended some green gumdrops with red to mimic the colors in the leaves on the plates~
Oooooo, I just LOVE this look!!!!! So cozy & inviting, Mary!
Get out your spray paint & fix up the bases of those lanterns quick before the rust spreads. (oil rubbed bronze, maybe?)
My DD would go bonkers over those beautiful plaid plates…she LOVES anything plaid. I think its because she has black scottie dogs. LOL
Beautifully arranged, as always.
I know we’ll BOTH be happy to see the sun again. *sigh*

I love this post. I purchased the same plates at HGs but I didn’t get the ones with the roses in the middle. The addition of the rose certainly lets them transfer out of just being a Christmas plate. I never could get enough of the dinner plates. If you ever see 3 more please pick them up. I’d be more than happy to reimburse you.
The gumdrop roses are such a perfect match to the plates. And I love the bit about camouflaging the lanterns! This certainly happens to things we love.
Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous. Those plates are so beautiful; I love the juxtaposition of the plaid with the roses. Your cupcakes are darling! The roses really add the perfect finishing touch.
