Wash, Rinse, Repeat

I’m working on a St. Paddy’s Day table~ daily life & a book report due on Friday :)  kept me from finishing this week.

In the meantime it occurred to me how often I find myself reaching for the same dishes~

I saw a lot of great looking white dishes when I was in Target this week~ several patterns to tempt me~  dishes with scalloped rims and hand carved details. . .

How many white dishes does one need when they also have these?

And these?

Do new white dishes tempt you?

You could use those dishes in every tablescape and we would think that they are different, for it is the spectacular way you present them.. the beautiful things you place with them..make them unique each and every time…

Use them. they look amazing in every setting. They are the beautiful blank canvas that you create your tablescapes with. Just lovely. Hugs P.S. I hope you will join us for today’s blog hop linky party :-)

Hi Mary, I was thinking about this yesterday when I set my table! I started with my favorite everyday white wedgwood nantucket (basket or not, it’s up in the air!) and I put them away because I always use them. So I ended up using my second favorite white set! I enjoyed looking back at all your fabulous table settings! Linda

Funny but white dishes are not my favorite even though there are so many things that can be done with them as you show again and again. I did buy some very plain ones not long ago and one of these days may even figure out how to do a table with them!

Mary, white dishes always tempt, especially if they are embellished with relief edges. Our Nantucket Basket is used every day and the beautiful white dishes with brown and gold details that you gifted me are some of our favorites. It’s fun to see all these different tablescapes together in one post. Life has been busy here, and I’m way behind with my book review post. It might be a bit tardy. Been away from the house too much to get photos taken. Guess spring is really here because life is popping!
Thanks for sharing the beauty of life at your place. ~ Sarah

Hi, Mary. I love the not-over-the-top-with-shamroks-ect. St. Patrick’s setting–it’s crisp and clean and fresh. I’m glad you mentioned using the same dishes, because as a farily new blogger I’ve been wondering about that myself, but if YOU do it, that gives me license to not worry about that either. Besides, as closely as I study your beautiful tables I hadn’t noticed that they were the same ones–that’s because you make them all look different and lovely. And yes, white dished DO tempt me. I have some patterned or color ones, but I really like to eat/serve on white plates. I just bought 2 more sets of 12 each, all white!! :) ~Zuni

Love them all, but spring is my favorite table. Simply charming.

  8. March 8, 2012 at 11:09 am

Yes, they are my new passion…. You have shown how many beautiful and completely different tables you can set with the same dishes. So ingenious. Love the tables.

Ohhhhhhhhhhhh I like the ones with the butterflies! Aren’t we glad you have an addiction to beautiful dishware & table setting because I LOVE each one you do. Only it’s makes me ashamed I don’t do it too. From one dish addict to another… Keeeeeeeep Up The GOOD WORK! Hugs!

It’s funny, I just bought more white dishes myself. I like to have different ones to capture the feeling of the table. Some are more frilly, some more conservative, some more whimsical. It all depends upon the table!

What a silly question, Mary! One needs EVERY SINGLE WHITE DISH that is made in the world! It’s only natural! :-) If I had the space (and was willing to hear the wah-wah-wah out of my husband’s mouth), I would have at least 10-12 more white patterns in my inventory. The fact that you can make white dishes look different and fresh and new every time out based on the decorative elements you use with them makes all the difference. Now get back to that store and buy some more!!! Have a great weekend! :-)

That’s how you know you chose well – you use them again and again! gorgeous tables!

  13. March 8, 2012 at 12:38 pm

My white ones are plain white with plain flat border. I like to mix them with other patterned dishes…i don’t have white on white patterns but would love to have a set with basket weave border.

Your tablescapes are all original and gorgeous no matter how many time you use the same dishes.. the themes you follow set the tone.

The timing of this post is so funny! My daughter just moved into a new apartment, and I offered to get her new dishes. I keep sending her photos of all white sets, and she thinks they are BORING!
I love my white dishes! You have done a fabulous job incorporating white dishes in so many wonderful tablescapes. I think we tend to think that our continued use of an item is as obvious to others as it is to us.

I reach for my white dishes all the time. I am loving the new square white dishes. I do see all my white dishes showing up in many of my tablescapes.

    All your tables are gorgeous.

WOW!!! I need to take lessons from you…I have been getting discouraged because I don’t have the stuff to do a table every week. I can’t run out and buy flowers, dinnerware etc. My tables look plain……I do own white dishes and will be dressing them up soon! Thanks for the inspiration!

I am amazed I can comment from my eye phone. After walking all day at an antique show in Atlanta I am taking a break reading your blog post. It is pretty and you amaze me how you can change things up so cleverly and eye catching. Have a great weekend, Mary.

No matter how many times I come over and look at your beautiful tablescapes, I am constantly amazed at your talent Mary! It is just awesome!! I can always find things at Target that tempt me!! Have you ever thought of submitting your blog to one of the Stampington magazines? Yours would be SO GREAT in print!!
