I’m celebrating St. Patrick’s Day with
The Wearing of the Green!
Ireland is a land that boasts 40 shades of green, so I’m dressing the table with a multi-hued cloth~ outfitted with shamrocks and adorned with pots of gold.
Instead of corned beef,
I’m dishing up flowers
to serve with my cabbage.
Alstroemeria is springing
from a pot of Salad Savoy.
Mini vases of shamrocks
are trimmed with ribbon. . .
And place settings don vintage-inspired
greetings to welcome St. Patrick’s Day.
I’m not Irish, but I was charmed by
these sweet sentiments for St. Patrick’s Day,
found from Vintage Holiday Crafts.
For Irish Hearts~
“Let the Clarion notes resound, On Dear Ireland’s distant shore, And re-echo through our hearts, For St. Patrick evermore.”
My white dishes are a blank canvas and chosen once again to celebrate the holidays~
Previously used for July 4th and then again for Halloween and to usher in Easter in the company of eggs & bunnies. 
Heads of Savoy cabbage are hollowed out and filled with wet floral foam~ serving as a vase for cheery Daisies, green Carnations, and Spider Mums for bouquets at the table~
All three varieties are affordable, available at the grocery store, and have a long life span~ a winning floral trifecta!
For long-lasting floral attire at the table~ mist the cabbage vases daily with water.
If the outer leaves start to wilt, just peel away the outer layer.
I’m happy to celebrate any holiday with a potato~ especially St. Patrick’s Day!
So I’m serving a Pot of Gold Potato Soup~ converted from a recipe for Irish Potato Soup~ with the addition of Yukon Gold Potatoes, Kerrygold Irish Butter & Kerrygold Cheddar Cheese~

Only you would turn the lowly cabbage into a floral container! I love the mix of all the shades of green in your tablescape. We had some corned beef and cabbage a few weeks ago. I couldn’t wait for St. Patrick’s Day!

I saw cabbages in the grocery store and was thinking of using them for candle holders but I thought they might light up. I never thought of vases but I love the idea! Mary, this table sparkles. The cabbage leaf containers are a wonderful touch. I’ve done the same for containers to serve food, but not flowers. I love this idea. I’ll definitely be a copycat on this! That is so beautiful, Mary. The plaid cloth draws my eye immediately. Every thing looks so fresh and Springy! I have used cabbage to serve chicken salad, but not flowers, I love it!

This is one billion percent gorgeous, Mary! SO creative! I love the centerpiece!!! I have been wanting to do something similar, but my reluctance to carve out the center of the cabbage has held me back. I’m lazy like that! ;-) You’re so right about the carnations, spider mums and daisies…they’ll last and look great for a good long time! This is a really beautiful example of St. Patrick’s Day decor done in a sophisticated way!

Oh goodness Mary, I just love, love this table!! So many elements, and it’s all so perfect and cheerful. I love the plaid tablecloth and green-handled flatware. The vintage Irish graphics are charming. :)
But what you’ve done with your flower arrangements is amazing. I would never have thought of using real cabbages as containers. You have a real talent for floral arrangements and I think that’s one of the things that makes your tables so special. And I love the little glass vases with clovers and ribbons — they’re so sweet! Hi there, As I was reading today’s post 2/16/13 I saw this; being 100% Irish I wanted to see all your touches. Thank you for sharing all the resources but I also wanted to ask where you got the little green pots that you put the chocolate coins in-they are so cute and would be that extra touch for my table. I have green goblets but looking for some extra things for our tablescape. Any info would be appreciated. I love all your touches!!!! Of course, I love all your posts and glad I found you!

Lots of inspiration here! I like all the mix of greens and the cabbage centerpiece is wonderful! Mixing the florals with food looks fabulous. My white alstroemeria still looks good at 2 weeks- I never knew it was such a good investment flower!
