‘Tis the Season to be Jolly

Nothing makes me jollier than

Jolly Old St. Nicholas

and a little sunshine in December!

Well maybe a little shopping at HomeGoods :)

DSC_0204-001

While we typically use our porch nine months out of the year, it’s been unseasonably warm and perfect for porch dining this December!

Only pine cone and boughs-of-holly napkins,

along with plaid ornaments tied with ribbon

are new additions at the table~

DSC_0257-001

The lanterns, plates, flatware, goblets and coverlet

have been previously used to Deck the Halls

or in this case, the table.

DSC_0185-001

Even pine cone-studded ribbon was

found in my stash of yuletide treasures~

DSC_0268-001

The St. Nick plates are 3-dimensional,

providing a little raised area to tuck

greenery and pine cones under Nick’s hat.

DSC_0168-001

The sun, like ‘a blazing Yule before us,’

is warming up the table and highlighting the

texture of the red matelasse coverlet used as a tablecloth.

and for additional merry measure~

 some candy canes.

The greenery~ Leyland Cypress~ will not leave a sticky or sappy residue while donning your gay apparel, tablecloth, placemats or napkins at the table.

Mary, I love reading your blog but have you made some new addition at the bottom? A bar keeps coming up and blinking. It is very distracting. Just thought you’d like to know.

    • December 12, 2012 at 6:13 am

Carole, I can’t imagine what that would be. I haven’t added anything & don’t have any advertising. I don’t see anything when I open my new post from my email notification.

Beautiful table! You are so clever!

  4. December 12, 2012 at 6:16 am

This one is jolly and fun all on its own. When you add the splashes of sunshine playing on it, it bumps it up yet another notch. I love it.

I tell you what pulls everything together on this tables cape: the wonderful wine glasses….LOVE them. Where did you get them?

  6. December 12, 2012 at 7:13 am

I just knew the Santa plates were F&F!!! Love the goblets — three cheers for Homegoods! Where to do you store all of these goodies? Wait! I know! Santa stores them for you! Ho-Ho-Ho … Merry, Merry!

    Walking in another winter wonderland~

  9. December 12, 2012 at 8:54 am

Beautiful! My mother has those Santa plates and they make me smile year after year. I love the new additions of the napkins and ornaments, and the old favorites like the plaid plates. The matelasse is a great idea for a table covering. You now have me looking with new eyes at my recently acquired Pottery Barn red chenille throw. ;-)

What a pretty table! The long winter shadows make an interesting play of light and add to the wintry scene.
I had may first Home Goods experience on the weekend – I’d be addicted to that store if it were nearer!

What a very fun table done with your usual flair! We are so lucky to continue useing our porches during the winter months when others are fstaying warm by the fireplace.

  13. December 12, 2012 at 9:17 am

Another beautiful and FESTIVE table! I just did my table last night for the tablescapes party too! I love those Santa plates. BTW, there is a video for the U. of Phoenix at the end of your post. Never saw that before. I see that someone else said something was “blinking” at the end and maybe that is it????

  14. December 12, 2012 at 9:19 am

Mary, now the video has disappeared??????????

Love the colors in this tablescape! The lanterns look awesome and I love the rich red matelasse coverlet/tablecloth! Those St.Nick plates are the best and they look great paired with the plaid salad plates. I just prepared a tablescape with similar colors and a lantern! When the sun comes out I have to work fast! Looks like you have beautiful weather where you are- we’re in snow already!

  18. December 12, 2012 at 12:32 pm

One of the most festive Christmas tables I have seen to date! If you’re so inclined, you can pack the whole thing up and send to me post haste…;-)
I love using plaid at Christmas time and would love to have those plates!

  19. December 12, 2012 at 2:25 pm

I love the greenery and ornaments spilling from the lantern! Of course, I love those Santa plates too. Gorgeous!!

  20. December 12, 2012 at 2:55 pm

omG i’m just in love! I have always liked those Santa plates and this is a perfect setting to show them off. Love the plaid dishes, too. and the ornaments in the lantern. and the cypress branches. It’s just all perfect. We ate outside last Saturday evening… and then had snow Monday morning! xo marlis

  21. December 12, 2012 at 3:09 pm

How nice that you are still able to enjoy your porch area!!! I don’t think we were able to get out there on our deck but a couple of times this past summer because of the heat. Then once it cooled down, it was crazy windy which kept us inside. Now, of course, it’s cold. This just fuels my case for getting a closed in porch in place of that deck!!! :-) Your table setting is beautiful! I remember those Santa plates, and I love them, love them, love them!!! They have a cool 3-D look that just can’t be beat on the table! LOVE what you did with your lanterns!!!!!!! The whole setting is just gorgeous! Say hello to Home Goods for me next time you’re there. It has been AGES since I visited!!!

  22. December 12, 2012 at 7:30 pm

Wow, as usual, Mary! Those Santa plates sure add a festive touch to your beautiful table. I love that table covering from Kohls and the lanterns filled with greenery and ornaments.

  23. December 12, 2012 at 7:49 pm

Lucky you that you can enjoy your porch into the holiday season – your table is so festive and merry!! Love the ornaments in your stemware!

  26. December 12, 2012 at 9:35 pm

    Those Santa plates are cute!

  27. December 12, 2012 at 9:54 pm

    Hi Mary,

I feel like I’m always GUSHING over your wonderful tablescapes, and yet, here I am again, ready to gush some more. :)

What’s not to love about this table? It is a joy to look at, truly. The second picture in your post caught my eye because the blue sky and water are reflected in your glass doors. Lovely! Your plaid ornaments are giving me ornament envy. :-D I do love me some plaid, and I’m seeing it everywhere this year — yay! Your centerpiece is gorgeous, and I love that you added the candy canes; I always like to see those this time of year.

Your coverlet is such a pretty shade of red, and I love the napkins. I have the same flatware in ivory; they look so pretty on a table, don’t they? My favorite thing of all might be those Fitz and Floyd St. Nicholas plates. They’re beautiful!!! I’m pretty sure we saw those on our excursion to Replacements, Ltd. last December.

You’ve done a great job, Mary — this is so creative and pretty. Thanks for your kind wishes for my dad’s health; he is actually doing great. :) I hope you have a wonderful week.

    Denise

  28. December 12, 2012 at 9:56 pm

Delightful and fun table. I love how you filled the lantern. You do make us feel jolly with the tiny snowflakes falling and such a festive happy tablescape. Glad you enjoyed your porch this long in December but I think it’s getting a little cooler soon.

    Have a wonderful Christmas!

  30. December 12, 2012 at 10:16 pm

My daughter took me there and I thought I was going to have to be revived!!! I saw zillions of things that I loved!!! Of course, immediately, I thought of you!! Merry Christmas to you and your family…and of course, hugs to Chloe and Gracie!! xo Jeanne, Chloe and LadyBug

  33. December 13, 2012 at 6:20 am

So beautiful and fun. Santa is surely making his presence know. All your pieces are fantastic. Love the idea of using the quilt for the tablecloth. It certainly made a lush base for the lanterns that you have decorated so beautifully.
I must go now, I am drooling and it is not a pretty sight.
    Merry Christmas, Ginger

  35. December 13, 2012 at 11:10 am

I had used them in a tablescape last Christmas…the same Santa ones you have. Does HG have them again this year? I need 4 more (I only have 4) so just wondering if you found yours recently. Happy Holidays!
