A cantankerous white-crowned sparrow. He appeared just 2 months ago and even the bluejays obey him. We watch from the kitchen window as he bosses through flittering about. Love all your posts.

  5. January 9, 2013 at 5:27 am

Happy blogiversary! I must say that those are the prettiest bird seed scoops I’ve ever seen. My favorite bird at the feeder was an Indigo Bunting. I only saw him once, but boy was he beautiful!

I subscribe by email and have gotten so many wonderful ideas from your posts. I, too have a Bichon, so love yours, as well. Of all the birds we see at our feeders and heated bird bath, I guess I’d have to say the little chickadee would be my favorite to watch. TJ Maxx would be a fun gift card.

  10. January 9, 2013 at 5:48 am

I don’t see them often at my feeder but I like to see the male Indigo Bunting.

My favorite bird is the male cardinal whom I affectionately call Mr. Lipstick because of his bright orange beak. I absolutely love all the song birds that come to my yard. My other favorites are what I call “the lemon bird” (goldfinch) and of course the robins.

My favorites are the yellow finches. Even in the winter when their yellow has faded. They are still a bright spot in the sometimes dreary winter landscape.

I’m following you on facebook! Love those Cake Kitchen papers. First saw some that looked like florentine plaster frescoes under a display of cheeses at a baby shower. Had never seen the fanciful birds paper before your blog. I’ve never seen those at Home Goods, which is where I would use my gift card.

Mary, you had me at the word BIRD! You didn’t even need to lure me with a giveaway ;o) You are actually the gift to me. Your blog posts just make everything better in the world. LOL Since I already have beautiful cardinals, chickadees and gold finches, I would have to say Bluebird. But I know the seed won’t lure them in. I’d buy bluebird houses if I won. Thanks!

  24. January 9, 2013 at 6:52 am

Happy Bloggerversary! My favourite bird is the Cardinal…20 years ago I lost my son shortly after he was born. That Christmas I asked for a sign to know that he was ok up in heaven and told no one about it, not even my husband. I asked God to send me a Cardinal on Christmas Day…I waited all day but never saw one – or so I thought….later that evening when we were back at home tucking our daughter into bed – I saw my Cardinal…my husband had gotten me a card and right on the front was a cardinal…I was so busy watching for a “real” one that I never even saw the one right there on my card…since that time seeing a Cardinal let’s me know that my son is still ok up there in heaven and watching over us.

I would so love the Home Goods card – I follow through google friend connect but I am adding you on facebook today as well..

I have many squirrels also and have just learned to live with them. We enjoy the show they put on too. Have a great day! Carol

I would love to see the blue jays & “female” cardinal return. These birds only visit seldom :( I see the hummingbirds frequent our feeders then the everyday birds. I often wonder why? Or if there’s something we are doing wrong?

  59. KCKay
    January 9, 2013 at 8:57 am

We just had a bluebird at our feeder! First time! What a beautiful bird.

  60. January 9, 2013 at 9:01 am

Happy Blogiversary!!! Congrats, Mary! I love the little party in your backyard. So cute! I enjoy watching the little cardinal couple at our bird feeder. The male seems to fuss at the female a lot, and she ignores him. It’s so funny!

  61. Margie Anders
    January 9, 2013 at 9:01 am

What a fun blog post! I love the Chickadee “coming early” – so typical of those little cuties! :-)
Not sure I can really pick a favorite, but I’ll say it is the Cardinal in the winter and the Gold Finch in the spring.
I follow you through email and if I should be so lucky to win your wonderful anniversary give away, I’d thoroughly enjoy shopping at Home Goods.
Congratulations on your first 3 years blogging! – Looking forward to the next 3 years of your great creativity!

  62. January 9, 2013 at 9:08 am

Here in the middle of Kansas the only pretty bird we get are Cardinals but the funniest bird I get at our feeder are our own Guineas. We think we own them but in reality they own us. Thanks for the creativity you add to the “great plains”.

  63. January 9, 2013 at 9:11 am

I don’t get a lot of colorful birds although occasionally I see a pretty yellow birdie! I am not sure what he/she is! I often fed the tiny sparrows. They seem to be bullied by all! But my friend Linda has Mr. and Mrs. Red Cardinal that lives on their farm! What a sight she says they are! So sweet! My late sister was a true bird watcher and she told me the blue birds are terrible bullies. But I have seen a plumb robin with his beautiful red breast chasing the squirrels away! Now that is a funny sight to see! As a young woman on my first job I knew a gentleman that was a true bird watcher and he went on trips just to watch birds! I was so fascinated by his stories. I still fondly remember them to this day! I think God’s creatures are fun to watch and we have lots of geese near my office building. They are such law abiders watching to cross the road! They are quite a sight to see but their food hosts are closer to the manmade lakes and ponds near my office and my home. Congrats on your blog anniversary! Such a sweet stop on my blogging travels. Thank you for the chance to win! You are a generous blogger! Happy Wednesday to you! Hugs Anne

  66. January 9, 2013 at 9:24 am

I have no idea the name of the birds who play their symphony for us every morning. Between our house and the back neighbors there is a veritable jungle so we only hear the sweet music, but don’t see the birds. Sometimes it is so loud it stops us in our tracks, but I imagine we would miss it if silence reigned.

In winter here in Iowa we have goldfinches, purple finches, sparrows, black-capped chickadees, cardinals, juncos-with little pink beaks, and mourning doves, but my favorites are the nuthatches and downy woodpeckers- I love their acrobatics! We occasionally get a blue jay, but they boss the other birds around… By the way, have you seen the children’s book, Tea with Lady Sapphire? I think you’d love it!
I would like the gift card to TJMaxx ( wish we had a Homegoods here!!!). I subscribe to your blog by email, and follow you on Pinterest.

Kiwi and Pearl absolutely are enthralled! Most of their fave seeds are on the menu here. Of course, my two loves and favorite birds that are on earth are these two, but I also adore cardinals! xo

  110. January 9, 2013 at 12:41 pm

Happy 3rd Anniversary! I love to see our state bird, the Cardinal at our birdfeeder and especially like how they contrast against the white snow! When our one daughter was young, she would call them “Red Jays” (since she was first introduced to Blue Jays)! Wishing you many more blogging anniversaries :)

  115. January 9, 2013 at 12:45 pm

Red canaries because they symbolize spring for me and it is my favorite season.

They are so inspiring and I look forward to receiving notices in my e-mail box whenever you post a new one.

Congratulations on your blogging anniversary and may you blog and keep us enthralled for many more years!

Your blog is beautiful! I look forward to checking it to brighten up dismal winter days. Love the birds – my favorite is the cardinal. I bought my daughter “Christmas dishes” with a tiny red cardinal on bare silver tree branches at Home Goods. The cardinal has always been a sign on “hope” to me. She is an artist and she loves them.-

  121. January 9, 2013 at 1:43 pm

We do not have a bird feeder anymore but when we did we loved the hummingbirds when they came to feed as well as the lovely bluejays
I still love the petite birds best>

Hi, I’m an email subscriber. The bird I would love to see at my feeder would be a male cardinal, However, that’s impossible since I live in the Pacific NW. My favorite local bird is the chickadee. Such cuties. For a flash of color, our blue Stellar Jays. If I won a gift card I would run to my Home Goods store.

We love our Burrowing Owls….each year after the babies depart from their burrow, one of the family seems to find it’s way to our favorite piece of driftwood and proceeds to use our entire backyard as it’s ‘birdfeeder’. We call them our ‘Watch Owls’ and are amazed at how trusting they are; sharing our outdoor living area as we pot garden, cook and relax. We’re not quite sure who watches who more!

Happy Anniversary! I love your blog and todays pictures are beautiful. I am happy to see any bird and not a squirrel at my feeders, but my favorite is a Goldfinch. They remind me of my dad.
    (love, love, love Home Goods)

  125. January 9, 2013 at 2:42 pm

I don’t have just one….can I have two? :)) Hummingbirds and little finches are my favorites at my feeders, although the orioles are awesome too! Love all the bird dishes, Happy Bird-day!!!

  126. January 9, 2013 at 2:48 pm

A party for the birds, what a fun idea! My favorite birds are the finches, but I’m eagerly awaiting for an owl family to move into the owl house that Santa left me last year. So far, no one has applied. Don’t know why, the rent is free!
Happy Anniversary! My visits to your blog are gift enough, Mary. Look forward to years more at Home is Where the Boat Is……….

I am a bird lover and feeder, so loved this post!! You have inspired me to beautify my feeding areas a little. As for my favorite bird at the feeder, I would probably say the chickadee or nuthatch, which we see more in the mountains. I do love the goldfinches when they have their summer color, and get excited about bluebirds in the bird bath. I’m a newcomer to your blog, but have shared it with many because of the creativity…….and beautiful photography!! Congrats on your 3rd anniversary of blogging, and a Home Goods gift card would be delightful!

I am a huge bird lover beginning with my parrot of 36 years, A parrot is said to be as intelligent as a five year old child. However, emotionally a parrot is a lot like a child stuck in the terrible twos!

  158. January 9, 2013 at 8:10 pm

This is sooo fun. I guess I am doing something wrong, we get a few cardinals (rare) some finches (rare) robins, horrid dove, squirrels and stray kitties. Yeah, it’s no wonder nothing comes through the yard, the cats keep everything away. Anyway… such a pretty setting for your sweet feathered friends. Happy blogaversary! It’s certainly been 3 wonderful years following you. Wishing you many, many more. xo marlis

I just subscribed to your blog tonight after seeing your post at Debra’s blog. I have seen your posts before and love your decorating style. My favourite bird at our feeder is the chickadee like on your dishes at your bird party! We have them all year around and I think they are just the cutest birds. Happy 3rd Anniversary to you. Even though I live in Canada I can use the gift card for HomeGoods when I go to Bangor, Maine. Blessings. Pamela

Ohmigosh, I had to have the Backyard Party kitchen papers! Now I’m back. :) This is my second visit to your gorgeous blog and I am thrilled to see a backyard bird post. I love to see a little flock of Bushtits at my feeders! They fly in so quietly and flit and peck at the feeder with little tse-tse noises and then they are gone as quietly as they came. An utterly delightful break in the day when I’m gardening or weeding!

I am a new-comer to your blog and I must say that I am loving it! Your photos and ideas are just beautiful. I think my most favorite bird to my feeder is the chickadee. I think they are so precious. Last year on a trip to the Botanical Gardens my daughter actually had a chickadee fly down to eat birdseed right out of her hand. I bought her the same chickadee plate used in your photos to commemorate that day at Home Goods. If I win I would really enjoy the Home Goods card.

There is a flock of blackbirds who occasionally visit my ground feeder here in town. In this group is one who’s wings are marked like a redwing blackbird, only the mark is off-white and it sings like a redwing blackbird with the “chortle-hee’. Reminds me of fishing at the ponds at my parents.

  182. January 10, 2013 at 3:25 am

What a beautiful bird party tablescape! I’m in the midst of making a bird feeder out of a couple of things I had stored. I can’t wait to get it painted and outside filled with seed. I love to see the cardinals, especially in the winter months. There bright red color is a pleasure to see {and is why I want to get some feeders out}.

  186. January 10, 2013 at 10:09 am

Happy Blogiversary! Your blog and photos are so very beautiful. I love all birds who find my feeders but I’d have to say the darling little chickadees have always been my favourites. (and hummingbirds in summer, of course). Thanks for the giveaway chance. I would choose the Amazon card…

My favorite bird to see is the “BLUEBIRD” the bird of happiness. They showed up at my home the winter my daddy passed away and that was in 1999. So I know he sends them every year now, to remind me life is short, but everyday be Happy !

I would love to find some bird dishes at Marshalls , Thank you!

  199. January 10, 2013 at 1:19 pm

It is a toss up between the cardinals and the doves. Love them both. What a great give a way my friend.

  200. January 10, 2013 at 2:15 pm

I love to see cardinals, but every so often a random hummingbird shows up outside the window and my girls and I love to see them!

  201. January 10, 2013 at 2:19 pm

Oh my gosh!! Love your bird buffet and the gifted party pad with the birds and their hats is too much fun!! Sadly, they are no longer available, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything so cute. The ‘chickadeeware’ is wonderful too.

I finally purchased my long pined for winter bird waterer this week and am really enjoying being able to watch the birds come in for a sip. Open water is a treat for them in Alberta! I think our all time favourites have to be the nuthatches, both red breasted and the whites. (Just don’t tell the other birds.)

  202. January 10, 2013 at 2:20 pm

Happy Bloggiversary! I’m following now too! :)

  203. January 10, 2013 at 2:39 pm

Congrats on you blogiversary! We have a wide variety of birds that visit our feeder. I think my favorite would be both the male and female cardinals. I also love seeing the little birds like the chickadees swoop in and quickly take off! They are all always a delight.

Happy Anniversary – I love your blog so much, it’s always such an inspiration. As far as which bird is my favorite it would definitely be the yellow finches that show up in the spring, I also love Mr. & Mrs. Redbird – they have been with us for many years. I was lucky enough one morning to look out and see a yellow finch and a cardinal on our bird feeder – sure wish I had my camera handy!

Mary, my dear mother would love this table. She loved birds and used to bribe me to go birding in the fields. My parents had binoculars in the front and in the back of the house so they could spy on their friends. I however, have two cats that would love to “have at at.” Such pretty dishes and such a fun table to set for the winter. Love the cakestand and mug. Joni

Happy third anniversary! What a creative idea, setting the table for the birds! At this time of year I enjoy seeing the Blue Jays and the beautiful Cardinals. Unfortunately our dog really has no manners for allowing birds in the yard so I have given up on having a bird feeder up for the winter. So your posting gave me a glance of what is to come- Spring. For from what I see outside my kitchen door is a frozen lake and snow near a foot deep.

We don’t put out seed for the birds, but the birds love my garden and I love to see them. My favorite birds to see in the garden are the juncos, chickadees, titmice and wrens. I love the little birds. (Oh, heck, I love seeing all of them, including the coopers hawk, crows, and turkeys.) But I also love to see the squirrels. We leave our pumpkins from the fall in the back yard for the squirrels. The squirrels love the fat pumpkin seeds during the winter. You haven’t lived until you see a big, fluffy gray squirrel tail poking out of the top of a rotting pumkin. Watch for a minute longer and the squirrel himself will re-emerge from the pumpkin with a fat seed to enjoy!

    Love your blog!

My two favorite birds I love to see are Blue Jays and Cardinals..they are just so majestic! But I have to say we have been having a hawk hanging around and he/she is just fantastic to watch! Great giveaway…thanks for sharing and your birthday table is just breathtaking!

  222. January 11, 2013 at 12:15 pm

That is just absolutely gorgeous! What a wonderful idea :-) I would love to see a Blue Jay at your party… they’re so happy and colorful–especially if they hang out with the red Cardinals!

  223. January 11, 2013 at 1:25 pm

What a darling post and sweet idea! Congratulations on your third Blog Birthday! I love seeing the gold finches on the feeder but I only see them in the Spring and Summer so the rest of the year I enjoy my fiesty little Chickadees. We have plenty of Blue Jays but they also like to make pigs of themselves by leaving not a seed for any other birdie. The song sparrows too bring us lots of pleasure when they are around. The truth is, I love the birds! Alas, we don’t get cardinals here, for I would surely enjoy them too. Hubby and I are both avid bird watchers. I really enjoyed your post! Hope you have a wonderful weekend.

    Blessings,

    Dear Mary,
we recently moved from NJ (which exit?) to VA Western Highlands and recognized different birds in our backyard. In NJ (wooded area) we had lots of Cardinals (10+ pairs in Winter) at the feeders. Here (opened pasture) we have lots of Goldfinches , Morning Doves, 3 varieties of woodpeckers + lots of other very beautiful birds I have to learn about. ( 2 Bald eagles crossing our property & rest in the trees for morning breakfast at the creek which is full of blue ribbon trouts…) Anyway- I`m crazy about books- what an inspiration they have to offer… Amazon is my favorite or better I “must be” their favorite customer (prime)…- Home goods as well but books are a little bit better to store and now I have just a little “Crawlspace” to put in all my favorite items.
A very Happy Anniversary – such a thoughtful, loving blog , it makes my day early in the morning- glad that I found it !! What ever happened to you : Keep going – fuel for my many plans & ideas to transform ! Thank you !!!- I traveled 3 times to Charlotte & maybe was in your wonderful area !

    Hi Mary,

I really love this post; your bird posts are some of my favorites. You captured some great pics of the birds at your feeders!! I LOVE the picture of the chickadee on top of the church bird feeder. Chickadees are the sweetest birds — I just love them!

At the moment, we have four bird feeders hanging outside our screened porch, which we can see from the kitchen window. We love watching the birds come and go. It’s so hard for me to pick my favorite; right now we’re getting bluebirds, so I would have to say they’re my favorite.

I would love to win the gift card in your giveaway. Congratulations on your upcoming blog birthday; my two-year birthday is on January 19th. :) Have a wonderful week!

I have tea cup bird feeders, I love it when the chickens eat from them, it always makes me laugh. So I guess my answer is a chicken.

  246. January 13, 2013 at 2:01 pm

I love seeing cardinals. They remind me of my late grandma, she always loved cardinals. Watching a pair chase in the backyard is fun, too.

  247. January 13, 2013 at 7:38 pm

I do love all of my birdies, but my very favorite that has visited our feeder is one of the local Monk Parrots. They come to our street every summer to feast on our neighbor’s pear tree, but one came to the feeder last year — just once that I saw! They are the most humorous and entertaining birds I have ever seen, and I just found that the local Wild Birds Unlimited sells a special blend for them! We are planning on building a platform for them to feed from in our yard next summer.

Hi, Happy Anniversary! I am also a bird lover and have many bird feeders inside for me and outside for the real birds! I’m from the midwest, and lucky enough to live in a small town (Medinah IL) that is very wooded. I love all birds but the Indigo bunting is my favorite, I did not see him this last year and hope he comes back. I also love the finches, so many come at one time, I have a blue jay that comes, red cardinals and what has been hanging out in front of my house in the huge pine tree on our lot is an owl. I got a glimpse of him this past fall, he sits at the very tip of our 50ft pine and hoots away, every night when i go to bed I hear him hooting! I love your blog and sometimes wish I could sit in your little potting shed with a good book! I promise myself one day I will build one for my own little get away, although I will not have that lake view! Thanks

Love the Cardinal, though those little fun filled Chickadees just inspire me to watch their zip. Watched Mr. Cardinal this morning sitting next to Ms. Sparrow. The two sat inside the feeder on top of the seed. I quickly got my IPhone and snapped a shot. My yard is always with friends that fly. Hummingbirds in Summer visit for all the flowers and vines. I had one Bluebird once, when I first moved in years ago, but he never returned. I have tried to get him back. Maybe one day he will revisit.
You are a delight to my day. I just happened to come across your website at Christmas and oh WOW! Yep the ladder tree was screaming my name, sent your website right off to my sister-in-law…yep the ladder tree will be visiting our homes. Happy Anniversary and keep all inspired!!!

I’m in love with the cardinal – at my feeder and in a baseball stadium. I’m a new follower to your blog and will be following you for a long time I’m sure. Thanks for this opportunity.

I love the male cardinal that shows up in my back yard. We have a sunroom where my cat and I can look out at the birds every morning and this particular bird gives us a show almost every day. Love your blog!

Hello would you mind stating which blog platform you’re using? I’m looking to start
my own blog soon but I’m having a difficult time selecting between BlogEngine/Wordpress/B2evolution and Drupal. The reason I ask is because your design and style seems different then most blogs and I’m looking for something unique.
P.S Apologies for being off-topic but I had to ask!
