I’m at the table with Yorktowne, a classic stoneware pattern introduced in 1967 and inspired by original crocks and jugs from The Pfaltzgraff Company.
For an updated look for this classic pattern, I paired it with some fresh details at the table, including a jute runner, galvanized server and silver chargers for a clean, modern feeling.
A galvanized 3-tier serving stand serves as a centerpiece, offering berries, oranges, granola and mini muffins for an easy self-serve breakfast or brunch.
And Le bon lait or good milk is in a carafe
and ready to serve for petit déjeuner.
I like to play with my dishes setting the table a couple of ways, first with napkins tucked in mugs and then in pewter napkin rings. Blue and white napkins have a fresh cottage feel and are reversible, from floral to a ticking stripe.
Octagonal silver chargers help lend a modern feel, while fresh oranges and Paperwhite blooms add a pop of cheery color and delicious fragrance to help chase away the winter blues.
A blue hand-applied floral motif adds dimension to the
smooth glaze, reminiscent of early salt-glaze techniques.
And stemless wine glasses are etched with the
same floral motif, also convenient for milk or juice.
A platter is a convenient size to
offer an assortment of yogurt.
Help yourself to yogurt, fruit and granola. . .
Or make a breakfast parfait layering blueberry muffins, lemon yogurt and blueberries. Add some granola for texture and crunch.

Mary, this brought back fond memories. This was my every day dinner ware for 20 years. I still love it! I gave it to a friend of mine, and she is using it daily. It is timeless! I didn’t have the glassware but love it.

I was just thinking about doing a table with my Yorktowne. Those are the dishes the electric cooperative, J worked for as a lineman nearly 40 years, gave us as a wedding gift in 1983.
We’ve used those dishes every day in one way or other for over 30 years. I have a few serving pieces, all 8 dinner plates and many of the bowls and extra little plates.
PS: I should get some of those glasses….:-)

This is great fun to look at, Mary — and it certainly does bring back memories. My husband and I were married in 1968, and although Yorktowne was not on my radar screen then, by the early 70’s it was. I remember EVERYONE having to have it! I had service for 12, I think, with lots of serving pieces. I loved it and kept it for a long time, until sometime in the late 80’s when I began buying Dansk’s Bistro. I gave the Yorktowne to one of my sisters-in-law, who still uses it. I love the way you’ve mixed the settings with
galvanized silver. I did that with Wilton Armetale, which I still use. It’s great stuff and goes with many different styles. Have you ever used that in your blog? The company is in southern Pennsylvania. Another question for you and your subscribers, do you recall the great pottery from Gerald E. Henn? That used to be sold at home parties, which were very popular here. I ended up with a large collection, and then suddenly the word was that there had been a fire at the plant in Ohio, and from there on, it was all downhill. Pieces that you ordered did not quite match what you had, etc. Some of it is still available on eBay, but I believe the company is out of business.

This was my first set of dishes! Back then I thought a person could only have one set of dishes at a time (silly, silly me), and I gave my entire set to a friend because I wanted a new design. Sigh. I’d love to have them back now.
Wow…I didn’t realize Pfaltzgraff was still making that pattern! It really is a timeless classic, but you’ve made it look so fresh and new. Great breakfast tablescape today…makes me hungry for a yogurt parfait!
I love how you have taken jute the perfect natural element and layered color and texture on it with fruit and flowers to showcase this timeless dinnerware pattern. You have given us the scent of the narcissus and the taste of the cool yogurt with fresh fruit and inspired us to eat a healthy breakfast. Blue and white does chase away the winter blues.
When I bought my blue and white dishes as Goodwill, some of this pattern was included in the mix. I love how you have added color and texture making the ordinary something special.
This was our dish pattern when we got married, almost 32 years ago. I finally sold it in a garage sale when I got some new white dishes. Of course now I have all kinds of sets much to the dismay of my husband. I just wonder where you keep all of these beautiful dishes? I’ve run out of space and husband has requested no more dishes for a while. :-)
I never had this set, in those days all I could afford was MELMAC:):) Pfaltzgraff was WAY out of my league back then:):) But I knew several paople who had it and I always loved it since I loved BLUE anything!!! I have had my Yorktowne dinnerware since the ’70s and still love it! I like to use pewter and “Fiesta” cobalt blue accessories with it. Thank you for you beautiful photos! I love your site!
I would not part with my Yorktowne! My sister-in-law had it and it went so well with her Williamsburg home décor in the early seventies. I searched everywhere to find a set for myself and finally found one at an upscale consignment store. The bonus was that the set included so many of the serving pieces that are no longer available. Thank you for your beautiful photos and for telling us where you got some of the accessories.
Blue and White is my most favorite combination…so fresh looking!
I have a carafe, very similar to your Le bon lait milk one, but mine has a bright yellow top and vertically, on one side the word Lemon is spelled out, also in bright yellow…I found it at our local Sally Store and was told when I got it that the day before they had 5 of them and someone had bought 4…sure wished I had been the first one to spot them, but…oh, well… I am happy with my one.

That was one of my very first sets of dinnerware many years ago…wish I still had them…they look so beautiful with the accessories and the way you always style the table so fabulously…I spy my favorite yogurt…it is actually my ice cream substitute lately!…

Hi, Mary! For people like me who are forced to eat food they wouldn’t voluntarily choose (in other words, HEALTHY!), this is a table setting that could get me to the table no questions asked! That breakfast parfait it beautiful! I would imagine even children could be coaxed to eat healthy foods when presented like that!
Oh, what memories!!! My first set of dishes when I was married back in 1969…….long gone now, but still a favorite of mine. Loved the salt glaze look and the blue!!!

Mary, this is a beautiful and charming breakfast table. Blue and white is a favorite with me, and it really showcases the fresh blueberries, oranges, and strawberries. I can almost smell the oranges and the paperwhites. :) My sister had a Pfaltzgraff pattern when she first got married,and this looks a lot like it; I’ll have to ask her. Yours looks so pretty!! I also love your table linens and the milk bottle. I might have to make a trip to the World Market now. :-D
