All I can say is “WOW”!!!
So beautiful Mary! My sister has 100 peony bushes, and I look forward to them every year. I pick “buds” and store them upright in our extra fridge in buckets with a few inches of water. I take them out of the fridge when I am ready for them to bloom. You can store the buds for up to three weeks in the fridge. This way I have peonies for an entire month!
Thanks for the info Debbie! Do you wrap them in newspaper or cover the buds in plastic in the fridge or just stick them in water?
I can almost smell them .Growing up we had them all around our house-my grandmother had planted them in the early 1900’s.Luckily I still had access to my childhood home and I brought some roots to my home about ten years ago and they are growing for me now.

Hi Mary, Your peonies are gorgeous!! Ours have not yet budded, and I lost one bush to deer munching earlier this spring. They ate the tender, juicy shoots down to the ground so I’ll be waiting to see what happens with that plant next year. Oh my, I’m looking back at your beautiful photos and I would like to pick one of those buds right off the screen. Three pounds of peonies~~priceless! :) Linda
Love love peonies! Growing up in south Alabama we don’t have these lovelies…but I fell in love with them when we had a wholesale florist business. My daughter is getting married in August and wanted them for her bouquet but sadly they are out of season then.
Peonies don’t do too well in Houston, so when those blooms show their pretty faces in Maine, I am ecstatic. It won’t be long until buds turn to blooms.

The scent of Peonies is intoxicating! My second job is at an outdoor wedding venue and guess what’s blooming! We fill the reception area with beautiful bouquets, I just love this time of year. Thanks for a beautiful post.
Mary, your peonies are gorgeous! I had one plant when we lived in Mt. Pleasant and it took 3 years for it to bloom but I was ecstatic when it did. I haven’t tried to grow them here though. May have to remedy that! And I am in love with that stamped spoon!

My peonies are all in tight buds right now, I can’t wait for their blooms. What do you folks who bring them indoors do about the ants? I shake them off..but still find the little creepies on my table.

Mary, in answer to your question, I cover the buds with plastic in the fridge and just stick them in water. Here in New York, the peonies bloom around the middle of June so I put the white buds in the fridge to use for a July Fourth bouquet..
If I could have 3 wishes for my garden they would be:
peonies, hydrangeas, and lilacs. These are stunning. Do you have bushes and bushes of these beauties? I have to do my peony gathering in the flower market, and they are in abundance there at the moment. Just pricy!

Oh how beautiful! Peonies are my mother’s favorite flower. We can’t grow them here easily, but she has gotten one variety to produce blooms. They didn’t survive the recent drought though.

Oh my!!! Peonies are one of my favorites. I only had 3 flowers this year and as soon as they opened it POURED and they were ruined before I could cut them:( Debbies info is very interesting, hoe she adds some details. 100 bushes???? That is awesome!

Now, can you float them in water…I love them in the dish on the scale…
Thanks Shirley! Probably so but I haven’t tried it. Once the blooms are fully open they only last a day or two. Camellias and gardenias make great floaters though :)

I love peonies, reminds me of my mom :) she had the pretty red ones for years. I read somewhere they can grow for years and years. I have a little one I am waiting for it to mature.
