While the calendar says September, we’re still having summer weather, fortunately with some lower humidity. A teaser of fall-like temperatures are on the horizon for the weekend.
I set a transitional table reflecting the summer weather we’re still in the midst of and to enjoy the last of the summer annuals. Petunias~ still blooming after a long, hot summer and some fruits in season~ plums and local muscadine grapes from the Farmers Market.
I picked up these Royal Stafford plates a month ago at T. J. Maxx ~ each plate costing less than my former daily Grande Skinny Cinnamon Dolce Latte. I’ve traded my Starbucks habit for a dish one .;)
Originally thinking I would use them in the spring, I decided I could enjoy them now, accessorizing with amethyst goblets and napkins and using an assortment of deep rich purple & plum-colored fruits for a centerpiece. . . my favorite kind of centerpiece~ one you can eat later!
Petunias are scattered among the plums, red and champagne grapes and local black muscadines~ enjoying the flowers while they are still blooming.
My two-tier server used before here, is lined with salad savoy leaves for color and a foundation for the fruit.
Absolutely gorgeous Mary! The purples are so rich and vibrant and the grapes are so cute! Enjoy:@)
Mary, finding your posts in my inbox is amwonderfulmway to start the day. I’m out of words to express my awe at your creations.
What a cute pan.. everything~
You are so devoted to treating everyone with sights..Thank you.
I look so forward to your posts and today’s did not disappoint – truly beautiful. Just wondering about the quilt tho…did you buy that or is it hand made?
Mary, you consistently provide the most gorgeous table inspiration. The purple is fabulous!
If I said this were my favorite I would be lying as all of your tables are favorites.. I love the colors, especially on the beautiful quilt. Those plates look fabulous in your setting. The centerpiece is wonderful. xo marlis
Ooooooohhhh!!! Aaaahhhhhhh!!! This is gorgeous, Mary! I love shades of purple! Everything from the palest lavender to the deepest aubergine is great in my book. This is that funky time of year when we’ have one foot in summer and one in fall, but purple fills the bill for both. I’m glad you decided to go ahead and use the floral plates. They work great. In fact, they’ll work great for 3 seasons, so you really got a great deal!!!!! The goblets are a real favorite for me. They are such a deep, rich hue! Everything looks so lush and plump and pretty. A wonderful transitional table!
another dazzler… the baby grapes and purple goblets are calling me this time, why… because i was just playing with them yesterday too! twins on so many things :)
i love your centerpiece, especially the shot with the pavers, because i have them too and know how perfect the colors compliment it all.
you are always thinking… sharing… and perfect!
i see i need to get to target today to add the purple bubble goblets today :)
i am always smitten with purple, it takes talent to do it well and stay natural, your table is another smile maker for me, you are always dreaming and sharing the best, a true inspiration~
Another stunning tablescape, Mary! When did you say your book was coming out? Champagne grapes are the best because they are so sweet and the absolute “essence” of grapes. They are truly my favorite grape.
This is just beautiful! I saw your purple dishes in TJ Maxx and would have bought them if there’d been more… they look fabulous with your purple goblets (don’t think they have those in our Target), and your gorgeous centerpiece! Exquisite! I also love the quilt! Truly wonderful photography, and as I’ve said before, definitely magazine worthy!! Love it!
Luscious and Posh! That could be the title of your book if you ever decided to work on one….. What can I say?….all of your tablescapes are luscious and posh….
I love the idea of a quilt as a tablecloth. What a beautiful table!
Oh I’d love to be at that table – so beautiful! You may have bought the dishes with spring in mind, but they make a most appropriate Fall table.
I love the richness of purple…beautiful, Mary!
I’m loving purple as a transitional color. That pan is amazing.

So beautiful! I already have the plates but I want that quilt and the centerpiece and the pastries!…Christine
Hi, Mary. I KNOW my husband is glad I didn’t see these dishes :)–they are beautiful. I love this shade of purple for fall, and often mix it with the deep oranges on my tables. As always, this whole table is gorgeous. And the petit four pan–gotta have it! You use your gifts and talents well…thank you for sharing.
Breathtakingly Beautiful, Mary! This table, with those deep shades of purple is pure royalty. I LOVE the tablecloth/quilt you used. So many of yours have come from Kohls…I’m wondering if this one was from there as well? You make me want to go SHOPPING!
Another gorgeous table! I’m glad you included pastries!
Mary, I am always glad to see a new post from you. I really like the tiered bird stand and I enjoyed looking back at the other post where you used it completely differently. I marvel at how you change the tablescape in such a myriad of ways. I actually wished for you this week as I am working on flowers for a bridesmaids luncheon. My thought was, Mary could really make this special.
The way you weaved your design using typically spring like dishes and turning the table into fall is ingenious. I love to see your creative mind at work.
Both your tablescape and petit fours are gorgeous! Love that purple color.
Of course you know I would adore this luscious table! I have those same plates, but alas, none of the salad plates. I saw red ones but no purple ones. I love all of it and the centerpiece just speaks elegant harvest. The little cakes are so fun. I have so many Nordic Ware pans, but not this one. They are perfect dusted with powdered sugar. Yum and gorgeous.
Such a beautiful table — the plates are perfect for spring or fall and I love the little sweets — just perfect for a little bite. Your tables and sweets are always so special. Joni
I sound like such a broken record~ your tablescapes are my very favorite. They have a beauty that is part of your own unique style!
And those little cakes…. stunning. I pinned them to remember to look for that mini cake pan.
Just lovey… as always!

Oh Mary, your artistry ALWAYS makes my heart skip a beat. And this time in amethyst . . . one of my favorite colors just takes it all over the top!
I’m going back to soak it all in one more time ( while I’m dreaming of those perfect little cakelets!) How darling are those??! You blow me away, girlfriend! xoxo
soooooo pretty. What a gorgeous setting. All your purples are so pretty — a wonderful entry into autumn. Love the goblets and those wonderful little flower cakes.
Mary, another stunner! The plates are beautiful BUT what they inspire in YOU is remarkable! What a talent you have! The business world lost a TREASURE when you retired! Thanks so much for sharing your talents with us. XO, Pinky
The colors of this tablescape are just gorgeous for this time of year. Those goblets are beautiful, as well as the quilt. You truly are a master of combining various materials into a work of art.
Gorgeous!!! Beautiful colors!!! (desserts aren’t too shabby either) ;-)
Gorgeous, rich colors! I love the little petits fours, simple and elegant.
I could seriously spend the entire day looking at all of the eye candy on your blog. As a “purplist” I must say that I love this table, and that quilt! Well, don’t get me started. I also love that two-tier server, which brought to mind the fact that I have a three-tier server (though much more rustic than yours) that I really should dig out and put to use. I’m inspired, as always!
Totally charming in every detail. Love purple and you’ve done is perfectly ~ regal, indeed. I admire you so, Mary. As long as you continue to create and share, I’ll never need to purchase another magazine. ;-)
So gorgeous! The plums with the wine reds….the picot edged ribbon for just the right touch of femininity…your wonderful new plates. I love every moment of this. Thank you for sharing your beautiful design. Cherry Kay
What a beautiful tablescape. You are so creative with the colors, fruit centerpiece, and patterns. This is such a lovely change for fall, mind you I love all the golds, orange and yellow but this is jaw dropping gorgeous. I love the quilt and the layers, I love everything here. Your treats are equally gorgeous. Thanks for sharing your creation.

Your petunia table is so inspiring. Love that it isn’t the norm! It is just so happy, the view you have is incredible!. hugs ~lynne
Absolutely stunning…your tables are over the top, Mary! I do love quilts as a table cloth too! What a nice cake pan. They are so sweet!
Mary, I always know that your posts are going to be a visual treat. Sometimes I spend so much time looking at your photos, I forget to leave a comment. :) Love your use of muscadines. They grow wild in our yard, but I haven’t seen any fruit this year…only the vines up in the trees.
Your arrangements and photos are always inspirations to me. Thank you!
Just so beautiful – as always! :)
Be a sweetie,
Shelia ;)
What a simply gorgeous tablesetting. We so rarely get to see lavender and purple and this was just lovely!
