I have been enamored by these little ornamental pumpkins this Fall~ known as Lil’ Pump-ke-mon variety, or more commonly Tiger Striped.
I’ve enjoyed them all through the month of October~ for Halloween, for my picnic and again at my harvesting table.
They are the guests of honor this week~ setting the stage for the color & theme for my pumpkin-inspired centerpiece and table.
My matelassé coverlet is the foundation for a simple lakeside table set with my white Oneida Westerly Basket dishes and cast iron urn used as centerpiece that I used for my table here.
The orange ribs on the pumpkins provided the color inspiration for my choice of goblets and new napkins from Pier 1 for a seasonal table.
A $4.00 bundle of orange {long-lasting!} daisies from the grocery store, together with Sweetgum leaves & greenery with a few flowers remaining from the Abelia shrubs are nested to fill in the gaps made by the stacked Lil’ Pump-ke-mons.
I had a little food fun & inspiration from Southern Living’s pumpkin cheese ball here.
I used a mix of cream cheese and chives to mimic the green flecks in the white rind that I combined with a Monterey Jack & Cheddar cheese blend. A pretzel rod provides the stem and Cheddar cheese~ the ribs.
Egg wash tinted with food coloring is painted on cookie cutter pie crust leaves for a decorative touch. Instruction for painted pastry leaves can be found here.

Your table is just gorgeous! I love how you’ve incorporated those beautiful leaves. I’d like to grow some of the little pumpkins next year, and I think I’ll try making that cheese ball for Thanksgiving. Are you sure you weren’t a food stylist in your former life?

Good morning Mary! I have made that same pumpkin cheese ball for several years now. I use a broccoli stem for the stem on the pumpkin! I LOVE those leaves and may try that for our Thanksgiving appetizer plate! Your table is, once again, spectacular. Of course the SETTING just takes our breath away! fall by the water, it honestly cannot get any better in my eyes… heavy sigh as i take it all in… please, don’t rush me, i am prone to staring… ok leave me alone, honest i won’t make a peep… when the trees are stripped bare then i will move on, thank heavens i have the prettiest cheese ball ever to gnaw on while i sit and stare :)

This is such a colorful fall table. I’m also fascinated with the Pump-ke-mons this year. I put some on my mantle for a fall arrangement, and was very pleased with the results. I bought mine at a nearby pumpkin farm; the fellow who sold them to me called the small striped ones Tiger Squash, and the larger white one Cotton Candy. I got two of the white ones.
I really love your whole table, and the centerpiece especially. But your creative pumpkin cheese ball was great! Don’t you just love Southern Living? I’ve been getting the magazine on a regular basis since about 1988. I did stop taking it for a while a few years ago when they changed the format, and I was VERY unhappy with it. But I think they’re trying to move back toward the way it used to be. I am subscribing to it again. I also have several of their books.

Neat pumpkin cheese ball~so clever. I am partial to urns and your white one with a real white pumpkin looks so elegant all dressed up with flowers and little pumpkins.
