We’re setting sail on the pontoon :) after boating over to watch a few regattas on the lake recently~ admiring the boats & colored sails dance across the water!
Since I’m no sailor, I picked up a few nautical pillows from HomeGoods to help me with my sailing terminology~
Enamel Boat Appetizer Dishes from Pottery Barn are weighing anchor in preparation for a picnic lunch~
We’re sipping on Daveste’ Vineyards Viognier ~ a great picnic wine from a North Carolina winery nearby.
Lemon Basil Shrimp Boats~
a recipe from Southern Living’s collection of Quick & Delicious Summer Salads for an easy summer meal.
My spirits were buoyed by the captain’s favorable response to this new recipe and his request to have it again!
Lemon-Basil Shrimp Salad, with Basil Leaf Sails
~ recipe courtesy Southern Living
Ingredients ~ serves 8
~3 pounds unpeeled, cooked large shrimp
~1 large red onion, sliced
~1 red bell pepper, sliced
~1 yellow bell pepper, sliced
~Lemon-Basil Marinade
~1/2 cup chopped fresh basil
~ salad greens
~Fresh Lemon Vinaigrette
Preparation
1. Peel shrimp and devein. Place shrimp and next 4 ingredients in a large zip-top plastic freezer bag. Seal and chill 8 hours or up to 24 hours, turning bag occasionally. Stir in basil 1 hour before serving. Drain and discard marinade just before serving.
2. Divide greens evenly between serving bowls; arrange drained shrimp mixture evenly over lettuce. Serve with Fresh Lemon Vinaigrette.
Top with Basil Leaf Sails!
Note: We enjoyed this as marinated shrimp, rather than a salad, so I didn’t make the Lemon Vinaigrette, but the verdict is it’s pleasing to sailors & land lubbers alike :)

Watermelon, Pecan, and Gorgonzola Salad, recipe courtesy Southern Living
This is a refreshing summer salad and a combination I have had before, with the exception of Pepper Jelly Vinaigrette~ a surprisingly delicious addition, which added just a little heat in contrast to the salty cheese and sweet melon!
Ingredients
~3/4 cup chopped pecans
~5 cups seeded and cubed watermelon
~1 (6-oz.) package mixed baby greens
~Pepper Jelly Vinaigrette
~1 cup crumbled/cubed Gorgonzola cheese
Pepper Jelly Vinaigrette~
Ingredients
~1/4 cup rice wine vinegar
~1/4 cup pepper jelly
~1 tablespoon fresh lime juice
~1 tablespoon grated onion
~1 teaspoon salt
~1/4 teaspoon pepper
~1/4 cup vegetable oil
Preparation
Whisk together first 6 ingredients. Gradually add oil in a slow, steady stream, whisking until blended.
This Pepper Jelly Vinaigrette is also recommended to serve with a summery trio of sliced tomatoes, cucumbers, and onion.

Between Naps on the Porch
Both of the vinaigrettes sound great! Just need to decide if I want lemon or lime (great use for hot pepper jelly too)… The salad boats are too cute with the basil sails! And the pontoon looks so cozy and welcoming, that’s my idea of spending a day on the water-enjoy:@)
PS-Have you heard the new song ‘Pontoon’ by Little Big Town? Really fun!
:D Mary, I think we have the same Crest Pontoon boat…..Ours looks just like yours, but our ski towers are different. I love Crests!!! Such a cute post. Thanks for posting the salad and vinaigrette recipe. I look forward to actually cooking again when things settle down. I have bookmarked this page, and I love your little boat bowls!!!
I would love to set sail on this voyage. Those boat bowls are so cute The sails of basil are so cute too. Wow, the pillows are great. All the recipes are something I would like. I bet Southern Living would hire you in a flash but I know you have worked all you care to. Thanks for inspiring me.
Mary, you are making me long for our days of sailing. The gentle sound of gliding across the lake, wind in our sails, sunset cruise after work, dinner on deck ~ all beautiful thoughts. It’s always a treat to see how you’ve accessorized your pontoon boat. Love the new pillows and the refresher on sailing terminology. :-) I laughed when I saw your dishes. I ordered some PB bowls in this pattern over the phone. They are sitting at the store. This is a reminder to get myself out there today to pick them up.
Thanks for the shrimp recipe. Sounds like a perfect dish to serve in our new bowls. ~ Sarah
Mary those boat dishes are fantabulous. Of course, every bit of this post from pillows to plates is gorgeous!
I know I have told you that pontooning (is that a word?) is one of my FAVORITE things to do!!!! It would be such fun to pontoon with YOU!!! The food sounds amazing and I love all your pillows and throws. Your hubby is one lucky man. And WE benefit from your talents too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! XO, Pinky
Oh my heavens, Mary. I don’t know whether I am more excited about seeing your nauticul decor and tablesettings OR having some NEW and fantastic recipes to try!
I LOVE IT ALL!
You are so talented. LOVE your boat decor style.
I want to hang out with YOU!
xoxox
Enjoy this gorgeous summer.

Thanks for sharing at Favorites on the First too!
Mary, I love this post!! My family loves pontooning, also!! Your tablesetting is beautiful and I can’t wait to try the recipes, they sound delicious. I love the woven tray and wonder if you got it at Target, also. It adds so much to the tablesetting. The boats, flatware and dishes are great, too. There’s nothing like a great evening “float”, we love it, too!!
You have the BEST STUFF!!!!
Have a great day!
Susan
Those boats used for the salad are just about the cutest thing I have ever seen!!!! I was in Pottery Barn just looking around the other day (because my husband was with me, and you know how that can be when they’re in to! :-) ) but I didn’t see those. They’re perfect for you guys since you live right there at the lake shore with the pontoon and all. Just perfect! They look like they were just made for the dishes!!! We live within walking distance of the lake, but you can’t see it from our window or anything. :-( I love the way you have all the pillows and throws arranged! Nice pun “…spirits were buoyed…” :-)
Perfect, as always, Mary! The pillows are just the right, colorful touch and those boats…well, everything just looks cuter in those! Thanks for sharing the recipes. They sound perfect for a fun time on the boat.
How fun! The little boat bowls are adorable and the salads sound delicious…perfect summer fare… As usual, your photos are beautiful!
Mary, I’m thrilled that you are sharing this at TUTORIALS TIPS AND TIDBITS! Did I read somewhere that you worked in marketing or retail … I think you are so so gifted! I can’t wait for every new Home Is Where The Boat Is post!
Lovely as always! Especially the little boats!
Oh Mary, this is just enchanting. anything served in those boats would be so impressive. I must be making the shrimp recipe!! The plates and napkins certainly remind me of anything you would find on a yacht! Classic and elegant. Mary, this is just wonderful.. xo marlis
First off, the food looks insanely yummy! And of stickin’ cute are those little boat dishes! love all the bright happy colors around the boat!
What a cute and comfortable space you have created! I am drooling over the shrimp boat. My hubby is allergic, but I can always make something else for him! Now I am in the mood to go boating!
LOVE your Shrimp Salad boats. SO perfect for your table.
Great boats! Love how you made the basil sails – I would certainly love to be on your boat today! And something that really caught my eye is your beautiful flatware!
As with every one of your posts, I have no idea where to begin to comment. I love all of the pillows. I really do like the water/lake/coastal theme, having spent many years growing up at my parents’ lake house. Those boat dishes are fantastic. What really jumped out at me, though, were those oars. Did I miss a post about them? Tell me about them. Did you paint them yourself? I have an EMPTY guest room and have been thinking coastal. I have oars and a netless fishing net that I was thinking of using in the room somehow. Very cool, as always,Mary.
Thanks Pattie~ The oars came from Pottery Barn. I got them a couple of years ago for a guest bedroom, but they are still available! I’ve used them on the porch and a tablescape before but it’s been a while! You can see them on the porch here.
Breathtaking! I adore everything about it: such great details and wonderful colors! It’s so inviting and comfortable! Then there’s the yummy food! It all says “step aboard”!
Thank you, Mary, for sharing this lovely space at Potpourri Friday!
What a fun table…love those shrimp/appetizer boats!
What do I have to do to get those pillows fro you? What an absolutely lucky find for a boat person. I must confess that our boat tables are most often much more casual than what you create!
I love how you topped the shrimp with basil sails ;o) And those pillows…I want to curl up for a siesta on your boat!
Your boat decor is perfect for cruising the lake and the food is yum. You are giving me ideas for our boat.
Awesome! Everything from your boat’s decor to the adorable basil sails on the shrimp boats. Love it.
I love all your nautical pillows and those dishes with the touch of red.
Another winner, Mary! Those boats are wonderful, outside and in! The basil sails, great touch! You certainly are very talented!
I will keep my eyes open for those boats if they make it to the outlet!
I have ceramic ones, but I would like to get those for my son! They would survive better with his 5 kids at his beach house.
Thanks for linking to Let’s Dish! I always look fwd to your creations!
Oh my heavens, this is awesome!! I love your nautical table with those adorable boat-dishes and the delicious and appropiate food for this amazing occasion Mary!! You are a fabulous lady of tablescaping and very talented to pick just the perfect, fun and pretty elements for your theme! Happy Seasonal Sunday.

What a beautiful post Mary!!! I just had to click on over to Pottery Barn to check out the bowls…no longer available! I just love all of the pillows and will be searching for those a bit later!!
