November’s Arrival

I look forward to November’s arrival and her slower pace after all the activity in October. For us the beginning of November coincides with the leaves at their peak~ unless a monster hurricane comes along and blows them off the trees. . .

The foliage and pumpkins, along with the flavors of the season slowly build to a crescendo~ culminating and peaking with a Thanksgiving.

Here is a recap from my November archives.

Beautiful! If I had that wonderful lake and gorgeous trees to look at everyday, I’m afraid I wouldn’t get anything *done*. But then, perhaps all needs to get done is sitting, looking, enjoying — letting the soul sing!!!!! Happy Fall!!! Here’s to Thanksgiving!

Mmmm….love your setting! I don’t know where you live but I like it! Our trees are bare here! Love that centerpiece you created! Such a great idea with the apples mixed with the flowers! Love your sentiment with the “giving thanks” We all need to do that a bit more. This hurricane certainly ruined a lot of lives.

Mary, I was just sharing your blog with my husband and realized you live on Lake Norman. Do you know Barbara and Jim Starr? Your pictures are fabulous! Thank you for sharing your many talents and putting a little something special in our day.

I can’t imagine living anywhere prettier than on your lake. Autumn is my favorite season, but TX doesn’t offer up anything as exquisite as this, Mary. Thanks for the recap of your tasty Autumn goodies. I want to make the sweet potato salad……….Sarah

Oh, to be able to set an OUTDOOR table for Thanksgiving! AND have the trees at their peek! Glorious. Still praying for all those who had such loss due to this storm. We feel VERY fortunate. Thank you so much for the recap…I meant to make the Potato Gratin last year and forgot…copying the recipe now to make this time…

I’m glad you were spared the ravages of the storm. So many were not so lucky. I too am thankful to hear my friends in NJ, NY, PA, RI, MA and ME have weathered it fairly well with minimum damage although most lost power.

Gorgeous pics, great colors and you know what I want now? Gratin! Alas, I lost everything in the fridge/freezer/etc, gotta fix that on Saturday! I welcome November, big smiles here Mary:@)

  20. November 1, 2012 at 8:44 pm

As usual, your photos are fabulous. For us in Maine, the peak is over and now the trees are baring, but I do have one more chance for a little color when I return to Houston.

  21. November 1, 2012 at 10:01 pm

Thank you so much for your calming words of a peaceful November and gorgeous photos. I tend to get a little uptight as the holidays roll around and the ‘to do’ list gets longer! You’ve just lowered my blood pressure :)

  22. November 1, 2012 at 10:13 pm

    Such beautiful Images!

  23. November 1, 2012 at 11:14 pm

I am always refreshed and inspired to come to your blog. I can see I’ve missed seeing a couple of fabulous fall posts from the past with the photos you have on this post. So I’m off to see everything I have missed. I have literally spent hours perusing your gorgeous, wonderful blog and have enjoyed every minute of it. It’s like going to a beautiful place that I don’t want to leave. But then, darn it, I have to come back to reality. You are so very very talented Mary, and I SO appreciate you sharing it all with us.

I love the crisp detail of your photography. Could you tell me what camera you use? I am in the process of replacing mine.

      Thank you. I have a Nikon D60.

  26. November 2, 2012 at 2:45 pm

Hi Mary, I am enjoying looking at your beautiful pictures as I sit here with no heat, power or water. Our foliage is gone with the winds except for a few low lying trees. We have wires and trees everywhere and lots of destruction, so I’m trying to escape through blog reading on my intermittently serviced cell phone! Think of us up here — it’s going to be 28 this weekend!! I’ll be back next week to click on all your links. Linda

  27. November 2, 2012 at 4:45 pm

I wish we still had some fall color left here! I think the drought this summer stressed our trees and the leaves dropped sooner than usual.

Gorgeous sunset photo – as all of your photos are! Your potato gratin has me drooling all over my desk ;)

  28. November 3, 2012 at 10:29 am

Mary – simply stunning eye candy. That sweet potatoe salad looks scrumptious- I will try it soon. Love love love your table by the lake.

  29. November 3, 2012 at 12:54 pm

Mary, your photos are beautiful! I’m in Ohio/Indiana, and our leaves are long gone although we are still raking! We’ve driven past Lake Norman on our way to Hilton Head for vacation in previous years and marveled at how beautiful it is! Lucky you!

The hurricane blew away most of our fal foliage so i enjoyed seeing your beautiful photos, Mary. I must try your potato gratin and sweet potator salad!

Thank you for all your kind words of support for the Hurricane Sandy victims. I have been voluteering at a temporary shelter in Brooklyn the past few days for people that lost their homes. It is wonderful to see how many people are helping and donating goods that are needed
