Thanksgiving With a Touch of Blue

I took advantage of  warm temperatures to set a table for two~ with a little color inspiration from a pair plates I found at HomeGoods.

Blue married with shades of rust and brown seemed like an unlikely Thanksgiving color combination but Mother Nature, seemed to give her stamp of approval with the water reflecting the blue sky, along with the pairing of the colors in the Royal Stafford turkey plates.

I repurposed a pumpkin as a vase for a centerpiece, hollowing it out and filling it with wet floral foam.

The centerpiece will last several days to a week, kept in a cool place out of direct sunlight to slow down the evaporation process, replacing some of the leaves and foliage as they start to wilt.

You can see another version of a pumpkin vase and mini vases in tiger stripe pumpkins here.

There will be 14 of us celebrating Thanksgiving this year at my sister-in-law’s house. My father-in-law will be absent and visited at assisted living, so we will rally around my mother-in-law to keep her from feeling blue.

Hi Mary, your turkey plates are wonderful. I think the touch of blue really brightens the autumn colors! Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family. I hope your mil feels happier too. It must be so hard for her and she sounds like a very nice person from all your references to her in your posts. I’ll be trying to cook with one hand, so maybe at last my daughter or hubby will learn to stuff the bird!! Linda

Mary, I’ve always like blue with the rusty colors of fall. Mother Nature knows how to paint beautiful scapes. Your table is as remarkable as ever. I’ve never used a pumpkin as a vase, but like this idea. I think I”m going to add some turkey plates some year. They make me smile. ;-)
Counting your friendship among my many blessings. Happy Thanksgiving, dear friend……….Sarah

Hi, Mary! I’m sorry that your father-in-law won’t be able to be there this year. I know that must make your mother-in-law very sad. It is wonderful that all of you guys will be there to love and support her. Your father-in-law will no doubt enjoy and appreciate the visits for the holiday. Your table is beautiful! Pulling from nature’s cue always yields something magical, doesn’t it? The backdrop is just amazing! What a fabulous centerpiece!!!!!!!! That must weigh a ton! It’s gorgeous with all those flowers and those huge artichokes! The little pumpkins are pretty as a picture, too! Have a wonderful Thanksgiving with your extended family, and give your father-in-law a little extra hug from the crazy lady in Kansas City who wishes him the best this holiday season! :-)

The assorted throws create the perfect background for your Thanksgiving canvas. Thanks for the visuals on the pumpkin centerpieces. Yours are vibrant and the perfect punctuation to your lakeside tablescape. We spent years reserving the private dining room at the assisted living center for my mom and taking our family and the Thanksgiving feast to her. It’s hard, but it was so worth the effort. I pray that your mother-in-law will have peace in this difficult situation. Thanks for inviting us for a peak. Cherry Kay
