Easter Table Inspiration: Tussie Mussie Napkins

DSC_0129.4

I found some Easter table and napkin inspiration in the March/April issue of Southern Lady Magazine~

Napkin-Turned-Tussie-Mussie!

Fun for dressing up white dishes and providing your family & guests with a few Easter treats!

You’ll want to use a solid color or a reversible-patterned napkin, since both the front and the back will be visible when you create your Tussie Mussie.

napkin fold tussie mussie-001

There are a couple of methods to create

your Napkin Tussie Mussies.

The first way and a little more challenging:

Fold your napkin into a square.

Fold down one corner to create a cuff. Flip napkin over and roll into a cone shape. Tuck your ends and tie with a ribbon.

hOM

Your finished Tussie Mussie will hold its shape better if you use a napkin/fabric that has some body or iron your napkin.

The fun part is filling your

Tussie Mussies with goodies. . .

Candy or decorative eggs and chocolate carrots tucked in among decorative paper shred or Easter grass. . .

Include a chocolate wrapped

Easter Greeting. . .

Or fill them with flatware

or add a few flowers. . .

The second & easy way:

Use a solid napkin with a decorative trim or edge. Fold napkin in half and then roll into a cone shape.

Fill Tussie Mussie with shred or Easter grass to hold the shape and treats!

You can provide an extra napkin for your guests so the Tussie Mussie stays wrapped and keeps the grass contained during your meal :)

Napkins are one of my favorite ways of dressing a table so your tussle mussie is a perfect addition to my napkin folding tricks. Very clever with your varied fillings.

Mary, this is the prettiest tussie mussie idea I’ve seen. It’s totally charming! I’ve always loved the tradition of a tussie mussie for spring. I’ve got a pattern and had planned to make some for friends, but may now make them in a napkin or hankie. Love this idea!

  18. March 23, 2013 at 11:37 am

Beautiful and very creative! Lovely accents for any table…May Day comes to mind…My mother would use paper cones made from decorative paper or paper doilies for May Day tussie mussies…

Really adorable napkin fold, Mary. I don’t think I’m going to be entertaining for Easter this year but I’m pinning this to remember for next year!

A few years ago, people looked at me like I was crazy when I talked about tussie mussies~~how refreshing that their time has come back ’round again. I’m just an old-fashioned kinda gal (as I write this on my ‘puter). This is just lovely, thanks for sharing!

I, like so many others, found this post to be a visual delight! As with all your other postings, the creative ideas are furthered enhanced by your wonderful photography. I had purchased the picot trim napkins from Kohl’s and returned them because the fabric was a bit heavy. When I saw your tussie mussies, I knew I had made a mistake. So, off I went to repurchase the napkins, and luckily they still had them and they were less expensive than before. I think it will be the green napkins with yellow trim for Easter Sunday and the yellow napkins with lavendar trim for a ladies luncheon. Thank you so much for the idea. MM

  45. March 25, 2013 at 10:02 am

I am off in the gently falling snow…a beaitufull site to behold to buy some goodies for us to make these for our extended family dinner on Easter. Thanks for the inspiration!
