Chalking It Up~ April Showers

I’m welcoming April~ including her showers,

and chalking up the door to my Potting Shed!

 My Potting Shed doors were salvage finds for $12 each~ you can see the before version with the tape on the broken glass.

Instead of replacing the glass in my back door, I decided to add a board and paint it with chalkboard paint.

I wanted to keep the door chippy and peeling, so I cleaned the door and removed only the loose paint chips. I watered down some green acrylic craft paint for a light wash of color over the existing white paint, then dry brushed some brown acrylic paint on to highlight some areas.

 My board was a scrap left from construction, so the texture is rough, a board with a smoother surface is better suited for a chalkboard. I found chalkboard paint at Lowe’s, and painted a several coats. After it was dry, I seasoned the board with chalk~ you can see the chalk caught in the rough surface texture of the board.

I added some glass knobs to

the panels on the door to hang jars

to hold flowers, chalk, or tools.

Our Daffodils were blooming in March,

but I’m looking forward to April Showers

bringing May flowers!
