At the Table~ Tea Rose

DSC_0112-001

I’m at the table embracing a little garden & cottage style

that blossomed from some dish inspiration~

 Pfaltzgraff Tea Rose.

DSC_0030-001

Pfaltzgraff’s Tea Rose, blooming since 1985,

continues to be a thriving and popular pattern~

Tea Rose table

A pattern that blends traditional romance

of roses with a touch of the English countryside.

DSC_0120-001

A  patchwork quilt with a blooming field of flowers is the foundation for the table and complement the delicate watercolor roses of the Tea Rose dinnerware.

DSC_0102-001

A favorite birdhouse with a little rosebud detail

is part of the casual and garden-style centerpiece~

joining some books, a pitcher, small watering can,

pair of finials, and a flower-nibbling bunny.

DSC_0100-001

The scalloped edges of the stoneware are paired

with lightly distressed carved white chargers.

DSC_0079-001

Watercolor roses, reminiscent of a cottage garden,

trail along the borders of the salad and dinner plates.

DSC_0065-001

Pink azaleas and rose-blooming napkins,

along with some Snowball Viburnum,

add a little garden variety.

DSC_0123-001

My Garden Style leans toward “cottage”. . . a style is that relaxed, colorful, fun, and a tad shabby or well-lived and loved~ like my husband’s grandmother’s rose pitcher, that’s been broken and reglued but still makes pretty a vase with the break hidden beneath the blooms.

DSC_0048-001

DSC_0037-001

Cottage style has less regard for rules

and is more about using what you love~

 My preferred method of tablescaping!

DSC_0122-001

In keeping with cottage style, quilts provide a soft foundation for the table and are multi-taskers, since they go from the table to the bed, on a picnic and can be thrown in the washing machine.

Best of all, they need no ironing :)

DSC_0073-001

A pair of faux eggs and a found nest are

tucked in a deep soup/cereal bowl.

DSC_0023-001

The bowl holds 24 ounces when

it’s not nesting season :)

DSC_0033-001

The season for flowers and butterflies, I picked

my oversized flatware with botanical designs to bring

some additional blooms to the table again this week.

DSC_0131-001

DSC_0085-001

Rose shape dessert plates add an additional

floral & feminine accent~ just the right size for

an appetizer, bread, dessert or to use for tea time.

    Beautiful!!

Your quote, is well, it’s perfect~the table is a place where you can break the rules, abandon caution, create the unexpected to delight and refresh the spirit. Your table today is effortless and beautiful, using your favorite things, flowers, delicate china, books, birdhouses ~the large one reminds me of your potting shed :)~ and of course your signature quilt. So lovely!

What a sweet, comforting, inviting table this is. Just slows the pulse & makes me feel feminine…Like my life really could be about enjoying people instead of the constant pull to organize/arrange/ manage my environment. does that make sense? I lOVE your quote!!

Love the quote but loving your sweet table more. Really liked how you put your table together. Thanks for sharing Mary.

Mary, you are a true artist at tablescapes! I had just copied down the garden quote, and then I saw yours! Love the relaxed style of this table as much as I love relaxed cottage gardens!

  9. May 19, 2013 at 8:48 am

Well I had plenty to say but on cell, what did me in was your quote!

  10. May 19, 2013 at 10:00 am

Love that quote. I’ve saved it off for future use. ‘-)
Your tables always fill my senses with delight. What a perfect Cottage Style table. Life Time Brands couldn’t have selected a more perfect representative. Gorgeous as with all you do, Mary. ~ Sarah

Oh, Mary…..this is one of my favorites. I love cottage style, too. And I love the tea rose china. Such a pretty pattern! I agree about quilted tablecloths….so nice not to have to iron them (because I iron everything)….

I love your centerpiece. I need to pin it on my board Books and Flowers.

Never one to disappoint us, I can’t decide which has more of my attention- your beautiful tablescape or the view behind it all!

  13. May 19, 2013 at 12:27 pm

Beautiful Mary, I have the Trousseau pattern and my sister In law the tea rose. Both are pretty to work with, great quilt for the base and cute bird house. Do you spend much time sitting at the table enjoying the view.

  14. May 19, 2013 at 12:48 pm

*sigh* I wish I could just pull up a chair, pour a tall glass of lemonade & relax the afternoon away at this lovely table.
I think it is wonderful that you’ve glued Grandma’s pitcher back together & still give it a place of prominence at the table. I know she is smiling to see it used again.

I’m off to check out the tea rose dinnerware & also hope to find some of those pretty white chargers…love them! Love the flatware too. And the Quilt. AND the flowers. AND the glasses! LOL

  15. May 19, 2013 at 1:28 pm

The gently shabby look of Cottage Style draws me in every time you create a setting using it…and by now I shouldn’t be surprised at how versatile your versions of Cottage Style can be…but I am always captivated.

The quote is perfect. You have your own unique style and it strikes a resounding chord with so many of us…

That quilt is still my favorite ‘tablecloth’…

  16. May 19, 2013 at 2:16 pm

Serene, relaxed, romantic and beautiful. I didn’t see any rules broken but agree with your quote.

  17. May 19, 2013 at 2:34 pm

This tablescape is quintessential cottage style with the pretty quilt, the jumble of colors, the beautiful accessories…it’s gorgeous! Seriously…this is the kind of table men AND women would be comfortable because of the serene feeling it evokes. You have such a wonderful way with details. That’s what makes a table and takes it from good to fantastic…the details. You’ve taken a pattern of dishes that realized its heyday during the “St. Elmo’s Fire”/Flock of Seagulls/Reaganomics years (some of the best years of my life!) and breathed incredible new life into them. Wonderful and romantic and serene. Love it!!!

  18. May 19, 2013 at 3:23 pm

I would love to be setting there enjoying your table and lake. What a lovely tablescape – such a talented lady you are. I so enjoy your posts, Mary.
    Have a wonderful week.

Mary I can only see one thing missing from your tablescape and that is the sign that reads “Wish you were here”…because boy, that table makes me wish I was there! It’s cold and raining here in the northeast and your post today is so inviting. Lovely, Mary, just lovely.

Mary….what a classic, romantic pattern….I so love how you created this table to reflect the beauty of the cottage look… The detail of the flatware and the chargers are perfect with the dinnerware…and must say that I love your quote!!! Gorgeous table Mary!

  28. May 21, 2013 at 8:33 am

This is truly beautiful, Mary — soft, romantic, and very cottage garden. I would definitely love to pass the afternoon hours there! Those Tea Rose dishes are so pretty; I’ve never seen that pattern before; they look perfect with the chargers and flatware. I love the beautiful old-fashioned rose pitcher; my grandmother had lots of neat pieces like that at her house. Seeing yours brings back memories for me.

    Have a wonderful week, Mary!

    Hugs,

    Denise

Oh so pretty! I like how the dinnerware goes so nicely with the table cover. Love the bird house on the books. What a great cottage look!

  31. May 23, 2013 at 5:26 pm

I love Pfalzgraff dishes, I’ve had two sets myself. Gave one away, now regret it. :( Lovely table as always. I really like your green stemware. Take care.

The tea rose dinnerware is lovely with the pretty quilt. Your centerpiece with the bird houses is part of the spring season an added plus is the nest with eggs! Your setting is always lovely! Have a great weekend!

  33. May 23, 2013 at 8:34 pm

Mary, this is lovely with the beautiful quilt. Lucky for me, my mom has Tea Rose for 16! It’s one of the most popular patterns, and I like the scalloped edges and watercolor roses. The wooden chargers work well with the Tea Rose. And since I have them in my inventory, I think it’s time to borrow the Tea Rose for my next dinner party. Have a good weekend!

  34. May 23, 2013 at 11:51 pm

loving your table scape! but those darling birdhouses are perfectly perfect! xoxo, tracie

  35. May 24, 2013 at 12:33 am

Lovely table, lovely background, it was so nice to see these pictures before going to work this morning!

  36. May 29, 2013 at 7:04 pm

Oh, it is so beautiful and inspiring! I just love it when I get to see the water behind the table too. What a lovely quilt to have as the backdrop for your Pfalztgraff plates. I love it when a pattern endures and endures. Did you make the quilt too? I hope your weather is as warm and lovely as it looks. We have dropped into a cold spell again! Summer will be over before it gets warm here!

All your elements mixed together makes for a charming cozy cottage tablescape. I like the bird houses with their rusty roofs. Your dishes combined with the quilt and the antique pitcher all work together so nicely. You have “style”!!

  38. May 29, 2013 at 8:32 pm

This table is just fits perfectly with your pretty potting shed, Mary. I love the Tea Rose dishes and especially on that soft quilt. The centerpiece is darling and those rose dessert plates… well, they were the perfect finale for your cottage-style table.

  39. May 29, 2013 at 8:50 pm

Love, love love the dishes on that quilt!!! The quilt speaks the same language as the flowers on the Tea Rose dishes. So charming. Love the centerpiece, especially the pitcher. Just love the setting, too. xo marlis

  40. May 29, 2013 at 9:14 pm

Oh, I love being in your cottage garden!

  41. May 29, 2013 at 10:34 pm

Still bloomin’ and still beautiful after all these years! Wish I could say the same for myself! :-) And that bowl holds…what was it? 24 oz? Wow! That’s a whole lotta soup/cereal/stew/chili/fruit cup!!! :-)

I always love the way you use quilts to cover your tables. They are such a pretty touch, and it doesn’t hurt that they don’t require all that silly ironing and primping that tablecloths do! I need to start using quilts!

Your Snowball Viburnum is absolutely gorgeous!!! SO pretty!!!!!!! It looks so lush. Like I could just roll around on it!

This would make a fantastic table for a Sunday morning breakfast or brunch. It just has that look. Beautiful, Mary!

  42. May 29, 2013 at 10:40 pm
