I’m at the table embracing a little garden & cottage style
that blossomed from some dish inspiration~
Pfaltzgraff Tea Rose.
Pfaltzgraff’s Tea Rose, blooming since 1985,
continues to be a thriving and popular pattern~
A pattern that blends traditional romance
of roses with a touch of the English countryside.
A patchwork quilt with a blooming field of flowers is the foundation for the table and complement the delicate watercolor roses of the Tea Rose dinnerware.
A favorite birdhouse with a little rosebud detail
is part of the casual and garden-style centerpiece~
joining some books, a pitcher, small watering can,
pair of finials, and a flower-nibbling bunny.
The scalloped edges of the stoneware are paired
with lightly distressed carved white chargers.
Watercolor roses, reminiscent of a cottage garden,
trail along the borders of the salad and dinner plates.
Pink azaleas and rose-blooming napkins,
along with some Snowball Viburnum,
add a little garden variety.
My Garden Style leans toward “cottage”. . . a style is that relaxed, colorful, fun, and a tad shabby or well-lived and loved~ like my husband’s grandmother’s rose pitcher, that’s been broken and reglued but still makes pretty a vase with the break hidden beneath the blooms.
Cottage style has less regard for rules
and is more about using what you love~
My preferred method of tablescaping!
In keeping with cottage style, quilts provide a soft foundation for the table and are multi-taskers, since they go from the table to the bed, on a picnic and can be thrown in the washing machine.
Best of all, they need no ironing :)
A pair of faux eggs and a found nest are
tucked in a deep soup/cereal bowl.
The bowl holds 24 ounces when
it’s not nesting season :)
The season for flowers and butterflies, I picked
my oversized flatware with botanical designs to bring
some additional blooms to the table again this week.
Rose shape dessert plates add an additional
floral & feminine accent~ just the right size for
an appetizer, bread, dessert or to use for tea time.

Never one to disappoint us, I can’t decide which has more of my attention- your beautiful tablescape or the view behind it all!
Beautiful Mary, I have the Trousseau pattern and my sister In law the tea rose. Both are pretty to work with, great quilt for the base and cute bird house. Do you spend much time sitting at the table enjoying the view.
*sigh* I wish I could just pull up a chair, pour a tall glass of lemonade & relax the afternoon away at this lovely table.
I think it is wonderful that you’ve glued Grandma’s pitcher back together & still give it a place of prominence at the table. I know she is smiling to see it used again.

The gently shabby look of Cottage Style draws me in every time you create a setting using it…and by now I shouldn’t be surprised at how versatile your versions of Cottage Style can be…but I am always captivated.

This tablescape is quintessential cottage style with the pretty quilt, the jumble of colors, the beautiful accessories…it’s gorgeous! Seriously…this is the kind of table men AND women would be comfortable because of the serene feeling it evokes. You have such a wonderful way with details. That’s what makes a table and takes it from good to fantastic…the details. You’ve taken a pattern of dishes that realized its heyday during the “St. Elmo’s Fire”/Flock of Seagulls/Reaganomics years (some of the best years of my life!) and breathed incredible new life into them. Wonderful and romantic and serene. Love it!!!

This is truly beautiful, Mary — soft, romantic, and very cottage garden. I would definitely love to pass the afternoon hours there! Those Tea Rose dishes are so pretty; I’ve never seen that pattern before; they look perfect with the chargers and flatware. I love the beautiful old-fashioned rose pitcher; my grandmother had lots of neat pieces like that at her house. Seeing yours brings back memories for me.

Mary, this is lovely with the beautiful quilt. Lucky for me, my mom has Tea Rose for 16! It’s one of the most popular patterns, and I like the scalloped edges and watercolor roses. The wooden chargers work well with the Tea Rose. And since I have them in my inventory, I think it’s time to borrow the Tea Rose for my next dinner party. Have a good weekend!

All your elements mixed together makes for a charming cozy cottage tablescape. I like the bird houses with their rusty roofs. Your dishes combined with the quilt and the antique pitcher all work together so nicely. You have “style”!!

I always love the way you use quilts to cover your tables. They are such a pretty touch, and it doesn’t hurt that they don’t require all that silly ironing and primping that tablecloths do! I need to start using quilts!
