My 2.5 ounce tasting glasses came from Pier 1 several years ago,

but versions are readily available at Bed, Bath & Beyond,

World Market and even T.J. Maxx & HomeGoods from time to time.

For quick assembly, I started with pound cake from the grocery store I cut in cubes,

but you could use any flavor of cake or even cupcakes.

Layer your cake of choice with lemon curd, custard or pudding, chocolate fudge or ganache,

add some fruit if you like, top with whipped cream and some gold sparkling sugar!

The controversial silver dragées have been used for cake and cookie decoration

for years and add a little festive sparkle of silver for New Year’s.

I don’t use them on a regular basis so I wasn’t worried about the small quantity in the parfaits,

but if you’re concerned, eliminate them and stick with sanding sugar in silver and gold instead.

And gold sparkling sugar is rimming

our toasting glasses in celebration!

I found mine on the cake decorating aisle of Michaels.

Hi Mary, These are so beautiful and festive! I am making your chocolate cake shooters for our celebration but in my v-shaped mini glasses. Maybe I will add sparklers too! We used to eat those dragees all the time and I often wondered what was in them–the link was so interesting to me. Have a wonderful celebration and Happy New Year to you and your hubby and the furry girls! Linda

what i love best about this is that you have already celebrated to show us how to celebrate, then you get to do it again! my internet has been dumb downed at the end of the month, they meter my usage, i couldn’t get your blog to load yesterday, today they cut me off midsentence trying to share this. IF i get it back i will quickly paste and wish you a very happy news year, loved the festive shots, i have not seen a sparkler since i was 8, fireworks are illegal in most of ca with such high fire danger, only now did i know how sad i was about it when i see how cute desserts can be!

  16. December 31, 2013 at 9:59 am

Lol, I just read some gal in CA has the dragees sent to her by a friend as they are illegal in CA. We haven’t had sparklers for years, illegal! Seriously, legalize marijuana, but ban these other things, CRAZY!
Your parfaits look wonderful, very festive!
    Happy 2014!

  17. December 31, 2013 at 10:35 am

These are so neat, Mary. One of my friends gave me a cute little set of mini compotes. :D

  18. December 31, 2013 at 12:09 pm

Mary, the mini parfaits are certainly festive. I love the sparkler addition. I’ve started using a sparkler for friends’ birthdays instead of candles. These days it takes too many candles. Ha!
Have a wonderful New Year’s celebration. All the best for 2014 to you and your husband and Chloe and Gracie.

Very festive! Love the idea of mini parfaits and rimming the toasting glasses with gold sparkle sugar. Regarding the dragées, ‘Kathleen’ makes an excellent point in her comment. (What next, the banning of silver or gold (confetti) almonds? ☺)
HAPPY NEW YEAR TO YOU and YOUR LOVED ONES. -Brenda-

    Happy New Year, Mary!

Everything is so festive! I love the sparklers. I will have to remember to set some aside this July 4. The gold sugar-rimmed glasses are so pretty.

  29. January 3, 2014 at 8:51 am

Loved the sparklers in the mini parfaits. Your decorations look awesome! Stopping by from Foodie Friday.

  30. January 4, 2014 at 1:13 am

What’s the controversy about the dragees? I hadn’t heard? Hmmm…I eat them straight out of the bottle! I have always loved them, especially on butter cookies at Christmas time. I’ll have to click on that link and see what all the hoopla is about. Whatever it is, I’m sure it’s not going to stop me from eating them. I’m already half crazy, so what the heck? ;-)

The parfaits are BEAUTIFUL!!! The way you displayed them is equally beautiful. I hope you had a wonderful closure to 2013!

  31. January 4, 2014 at 10:05 pm

Mary, you are always an inspiration! Beautiful table. So festive! Your photography is so well done. Happy 2014!
