I mixed some sangria with patriotic sipping in mind
to celebrate the Red, White & Blue
In anticipation of Independence Day!
This is an easy beverage for summer sipping and serving,
adjusting the flavors and fruit to your palate, party, and guests!
It only takes five minutes to assemble in a large pitcher.
You can mix it an hour to two in advance of serving if using berries,
or up to 24 hours if using less delicate fruit like peaches, apples or oranges,
to infuse the sangria with their fruity flavor.
I found this handy Anatomy of Sangria chart,
courtesy of Wine Enthusiast Magazine for a quick
reference for mixing your
next batch of summer sangria!
The combinations are endless with your choice of mixers, fruit, juice, wine & liquor.
Most sangria calls for brandy, rum or triple sec,
I used a citrus vodka for this Fourth of July batch.
To celebrate the Red, White & Blueberry
here’s a refreshing combination
that I highly recommend . . .
Red, White & Blue Sangria
Ingredients
2 – 3 cups mixed berries (I used strawberries & blueberries)
1 bottle Pinot Grigio, or white wine of choice
1/2 cup Pomegranate juice
1/2 cup citrus flavored vodka
16 oz bottle of lemon-lime soda (I used diet)
Slice strawberries and add blueberries to a large pitcher.
Add wine, juice and vodka. Refrigerate until serving, 1 – 2 hours or up to 24.
(Berries look & taste best if served within 1 to 2 hours).
Just before serving add chilled lemon-lime soda to pitcher and mix well.
Fill glasses half full with ice, add sangria and fruit.
Red, White & Blue Sangria
Ingredients
- 2 - 3 cups mixed fresh strawberries, blueberries and /or blackberries
- 1 750ml bottle Pinot Grigio or white wine of choice
- 1/2 cup pomegranate juice
- 1/2 cup citrus-flavored vodka
- 16 oz bottle of lemon-lime soda
Instructions
- Slice strawberries and add blueberries to a large pitcher.
- Add wine, juice and vodka.
- Refrigerate until serving, 1 – 2 hours or up to 24. (Berries look best if served within 1 to 2 hours).
- Just before serving add chilled lemon-lime soda to pitcher and mix well. Fill glasses half full with ice, add sangria and fruit.
Notes
Berries look and taste best if served within 1 to 2 hours
We prefer drinks that aren’t too sweet so the diet lemon-lime soda added just enough sweetness for us,
but exercise your Freedom and Independence and add additional sweetener,
agave, simple syrup or sugar if desired :)
Happy Summer Sipping
and Independence Day!
Thank you for your visit!
This looks wonderful. Already putting together an adult version & a kids version. Just what we’ll need during the water balloon ‘fight’ breaks.
Thanks for this great idea!
Yummy – looks pretty and patriotic! Love the straws too – where did you find those? Love to try this recipe!
Thanks Donna, I found the straws at Dollar Tree last year, I haven’t been in lately to see if they have them :)
Very pretty! And pretty darn tasty too I’m sure!!! I noticed the straws right away too, looks like you’re all set for the 4th Mary:@)

Made those red velvet sailboat cupcakes. Woohoo! Everybody loved them!
What a perfectly patriotic drink to sip on the 4th, Mary. Cheers to you!
I haven’t had Sangria for years, maybe since college, when we drank it to save $, but you are making me very curious and thirsty! I love the recipe you’ve shared with Citrus Vodka and berries, that does appeal~especially on the hot humid evenings of summer…so festive is your red white and blue version, Mary, you have made it irresistible! I might have to mix up a batch for my guests this weekend!

Love the addition of Pom! This qualifies as a health drink!
Sure, it’s about the ingredients, but it’s also about the presentation. And you really presented this in a beautiful way!!! Sangria is such a wonderful summertime libation, and when it’s this pretty, who can resist!?
It has turned hot and humid here in the Kansas City area, so this is something I think I’ll make tomorrow with the leftover blueberries and strawberries from the weekend!
Sounds like a delicious and refreshing combination…I was in Miami recently and had the red sangria at Lario’s Restaurant in South Miami…it was a bit too heavy and strong. I would have preferred something more like your version…
Target has some straws like that! Your recipe sounds awesome! Hugs to the girls!
beverages by the water, does it get any better?
yes… when you photograph them :-)
Just found your blog this morning and it has made my day! More then beautiful! You are very talented indeed! The patriotic tablescape is flooring me with curiosity and awe. May I ask where you purchased the patriotic cloth napkins? Did you buy the buckets/stuff inside them as a package deal or buy everything individually and fix them yourself? I am so inspired but not creative but I can still enjoy yours with gratitude for you sharing it with your blog followers.
Thanks Betty! I think you’re referring to this post? All the sources and how to’s are here:

I fully support any and all kinds of sangria, especially ones that are in tune for the cookout season!
It would be great if you wanted to come over to my weekly link party and share this post
Hope to see you there! : )
