“Sultry as a summer evening and as intoxicating as an exotic perfume, the scent of gardenias settles like a memory onto your soul. The blossoms are just as enticing.”
“Buds shaped like seashells unfurl into velvet soft flowers in the warmth and humidity of early evening. But it’s the fragrance that captivates.”
I got to enjoy gardenias before we left Houston. I should remember they are one of the things that don’t grow in Maine and be even more grateful for them.
Beautiful! One of my very favorite fragrances. After an unusually cold winter on the Gulf coast, I wasn’t expecting my gardenia bushes to bloom. But, by the first of May, they were just loaded down with blossoms! I have a huge lucite seashell bowl that I floated them in. It looked so pretty, I wish I could send you a picture! Happy Summer weekend!
Oh they are so beautiful Mary!…I had two gardenia trees and I believe they unfortunately did not make it this year from the harsh winter we had…They are still in the ground hoping for a miracle!…Love your beautiful photographs of the gardenias and the table…Have a wonderful weekend!
I used to have a gardenia bush, sigh…I love the way you have captured their delicate beauty in so many ways~my favorite is the sea shell table [of course :) ] I love the mix of shells and blooms~ a gardenia “Love Bath” sounds like heaven!

Gardenias! I am so jealous. I can’t grow them in the ground here, but year after year when I pass by the potted ones at the garden center I never buy them, remembering my disastrous past attempts. Now I wish I would have.
Would you believe I missed my gardenias blooming while I was in Texas. They bloomed better this year. I can’t understand it since nothing else has. I have had good luck rooting from my old fashioned bush. Hoping for a large swath of fragrance someday. Your descriptions of gardenias and those of Southern Living are like music to my ears. So beautiful.
Check out my sunflowers that I did not grow but enjoyed the first experience arranging. Wish I had enough sun to grow some.
Thanks for the repeat of Dancing with the Moon and Gardenia and Shell tablescape. Enjoyed it again.
Dreamy! I’ve not had luck with gardenia bushes. Love the fragrance and the pretty white blooms. I’ll just have to scroll up and down and take in all this beauty here.
Happy Weekend!
Stunning photos…my mother’s favorite flowers and they always remind me of her. I always have a bush in the garden…although mine bloomed earlier (in time for my mother’s April 15th birthday!) my bush is not as exuberant in it’s blooming as yours!
Magnolia blossoms have a heavenly scent and are so beautiful when blooming. We were always told not to touch the bloom as it would turn brown like it was bruised.
Reminds me of living in FL…we had 4 bushes…two on each side of the lanai doors. *sigh* I would cut them & bring them in all the time.
I sure didn’t arrange them as pretty as YOU have, Mary. You are sooo talented in that regard. LOVE the tablescape!!
OMG!! I can not believe all the blooms tyou have!!!!!!!!!!! I ADORE gardenias. I have a HUGE plant and a gardenia tree on the patio and have only gotten TWO blooms:(:( I bring them in the house for the winter and they are 3 or 4 years old now. I remember that table too. Gorgeous.
Beautiful gardenias. I love both your tables. I used to have some fish plates! I wish I still had them! Thanks for sharing. I linked my simple Patriotic bar/counter scape! Have a good week.
I bet they smell fantastic Mary! My G-Mom-B had a plant in her diningroom, it was always exciting when it bloomed:@)
First the Confederate jasmine blooms and then the gardenias! May/June is full of heavenly fragrances heavy on our sultry air. Loved your post this AM!
Your gardenias are beautiful and I can almost smell the exotic fragrance !
