Mary,
You’re not the only one that has the August Blues..the color in my euchinacea have been faded out for the past week or so and Friday, we had a heavy rain storm that finished laying them down to the ground, followed by similar rainfall on Saturday. I myself have been draging and wishing I didn’t have to pick the crabgrass out of the flowerbeds but the recent rain made it easier until I saw where Bambi and friends had enjoyed my garden phlox and hydrangea for a midnight snack. I pulled weeds yesterday afternoon and cut the coneflowers back..The black-eye susans are blooming like real champs..I feel like the coneflowers; faded and tired out. come on Fall!
I just love your blog! You are so stinkin creative – and I covet your gardening shed!!!! Sorry I have been remiss in letting you know earlier.
Have a wonderful week!
You should have your own business; your attention to detail is amazing in every photo and writing you do..I so much look forward to your blog every day. It is always a treat! Love the idea of hanging things from the rake’s tines. Did you ever think that mason jars would be so widely popular..”just an old jar” has taken the world by storm in the decorating world.
Lovely! This is a very different style for you, from the bolder looks I’ve been seeing most of the summer. You always coordinate nicely but I love the delicacy here. Absolutely love your flower bucket too!!
Taking my breath away! So soft, so delicate, so YOU!!!
I adore your Staffordshire Bouquet china…my former neighbor had them & I coveted her’s too. *sigh*
The end of summer and I’m starting to think about pumpkins and pie. We sold our home two years ago and moved to Vegas and I miss my hydrangeas. They would never survive here. Beautiful colors, beautiful dishes and arrangements. You have a wonderful eye. Love the little birdhouse.
This made my morning Mary, I am smiling and ready to run outside to gather any “survivors” and create a bouquet~ my hydrangea blooms are few and far between and most everything else has withered away~ I just adore the sweet bench vignette you have created with all your favorite blooms, real and silver and on delicate china…it makes for a cool breeze on a hot day just looking at it! Sounds like we are both in for another HOT week, I hope you can stay fresh as a daisy, and keep your bucket full of blooms!

This is like a magic tonic, but you are making me miss home… all the pretty things make me smile, yet have heart pangs for seasons gone by without me… in other words this is pretty darn powerful photo session, making me smile AND feel such garden angst!
Oh, such a scrumptious post with dishes, flatware, and posies! Love, love your flowers! August has been a very cool month here but the next three days look promising and we’re heading for our favouite spot, the beach. Delightful post and enjoy your day.
I’m sorry to see summer go. It is never long enough for me even with the heat and humidity. A ceiling fan going on the porch and a big glass of iced tea lemonade makes me one happy old gal. The sounds of children playing and locusts humming are music to my ears. To me Autumn means snow and cold are just around the corner. Your photos are always so beautiful. Stay cool!
I want to go outside and pick a flower bouquet for myself now too! $4.00 for those flowers???? The roses are GORGEOUS, just perfect!!! Love your dishes and the flatware bouguet. WISH I had delphiniums, will put that on the list for next year!!! Have a BLOOMING good week!!!!
This post is definitely a “blues buster”…. You have such great flowers this summer…and I keep scrolling up and down gazing at your breathtaking vignettes….one cannot help but smile….stunning as always!
I love the Johnson Brothers Garden Bouquet, Mary, and can’t believe that’s actually one vintage set I sold (I have another set, similar, that had more sentiment attached, I guess was my reasoning). Yes, the garden is waning, but my hostas look like a military sword arch in the back of the garden, and that makes me happy for now (and they smell so good!). Luckily, in our parts of the country, we have all 4 seasons, and I enjoy them all (except winter, after Christmas, I want it gone!). Have a great week.

Here we are, not even the end of August yet and the day has dawned in full Fall mode …
Fall Season in Hawai’i is nothing like Fall Season in the Carolinas, but it ‘feels’ like it…there is a quality to the air and sunlight today that says Fall is here.
Your post today has transported me to the Carolinas…both of them were my home for many, many years….I love where I live…but at the same time, I miss where I lived!
Beautiful post Mary. We have not had the summer you folks have had here in New England. Some folks want more heat than we got, not me. Love your dishes and all your flowers, hope a little coolness comes your way soon. The sun is setting here tonight at 7:30 pm, this is what I don’t like. Would love to have the summer we had this year every year.
Our August has been “better than most” and for almost a week now windows open…NO AC!!! The muted colors are a welcome “break” from the brilliant sun colors. franki
The flowers are beautiful Mary! Gotta say this has been the mildest summer I can ever remember in Philly! Of course September can bring a very hot Indian summer so we’ll see how that plays out… While I haven’t felt the urgent need for it to start this year, fall is my favorite season and I have smelled it in the early morning air this past weekend:@)
I always enjoy my visit to your potting shed, Mary. Your Staffordshire Bouquet is a favorite of mine. I love your mismatched flatware. It makes collecting fun and so many patterns to find. I’m going to be on the lookout. Summer’s not over here in Texas for awhile. I’ve been wilting for weeks!
Lovely post!mlove all the flowers… I really hate to see summer go..even though I love fall. I know that sounds weird…but I don’t look forward to winter..sad…
Hi Mary! Such pretty flowers, dishes, and love the flatware also. I’ve really enjoyed our mild summer here in MI — it’s just gone too fast. Fall is my favorite time and we’ll soon be canning our tomatoes and using my pretty “blue Ball canning jars”!! ;) My Mom at 87, is gearing up for a full day. What’s better than home canned tomatoes? (Maybe cheesy potatoes! -ha )

I love the shadows falling over the bench and tablescape. Just lovely compilation – a great start for my week!

So pretty Mary! and I understand what you mean about the humidity. I want to take the ALS Ice bucket challenge twice just too cool off…lol

An exquisite post and photos. What a wonderful way to start a Monday morning. Thank you. Rosie @ The Magic Hutch
Lovely. Still and serene. Soft. (except for the pointy rake thing!)
