I let out a little farm country *sigh* at the scenery on our way to visit some North Carolina wineries recently, driving though Yadkin and Surry Counties.
Farm country, some now growing grapes. . .
Still a little tobacco, some soybeans, and corn. . .
And more corn as far as the eye could see. . .
I have a special place in my heart for barns and farms since my grandparents had a farm.
Our family summer vacation every year was making the drive from North Carolina to Mississippi to spend a week riding horses, visiting the cows and chickens, trying to catch barn kittens, and snapping green beans on the front porch.
Doesn’t this scenery make you want to slow down, sit in a rocker and breathe the fresh country air?
I’ll leave you to enjoy a little rural scenery to kick off your weekend!

Ahhh. I know that morning glories are the bane of most gardeners, but I love them because they remind me of my grandmother’s garden and my childhood; running wild in the countryside.
Makes me realize how fortunate we are to be living where we do. Nearly all of these scenes could be within 2 miles of my house! Thanks for the fresh eyes; need a drive just to take those pictures! Have a great weekend!
Incredible photos Mary, and yes, extremely peaceful~you can feel yourself relax just by gazing at the open fields…the thing I miss the most when summer is gone is fresh corn, Oh how I would love to walk in those fields and grab an ear or three! Is NC wine very good? After the earthquake in Napa, I am afraid the California wines are going to shoot up in $! Wishing you a slow and peaceful weekend~

Beautiful pictures, Mary! Very few farms left here on Long Island, the few that are left are out here, so we get the ocean and farms. LOTS of wineries, but I don’t drink. Nothing like picking apples with an ocean breeze, if you don’t mind paying 43.00 for a small bag! Guess we are paying for the ambiance! City people don’t seem to mind, but we locals do!

Oh Mary, it reminds me of our family farm in Virginia. How I would love to move there and live. But, unfortunately time has past by to do this.

I love farms, barns and old buildings…one of the hats I wear is as “farmers markets correspondent” for a local agricultural web magazine/newsletter and I get to visit not only farmers markets all over our island, but get to visit the farmers and take tours of their farms…Love it!
I love to visit farms and farmers markets when I travel also…I have yet to visit the wineries in NC, though and vow I will on one of my visits to my brothers…Maybe on my next trip to the mainland!

I am SIGHING seeing your pics, Mary! Just yesterday, I drove up to Lancaster county and saw many of the same scenes: barns, ROWS of corn, but also Amish buggies, workers in the feilds, cows, horses etc. There was no place to pull over to take pics rthough:( I did have my camera too! Thanks for sharing your beautiful NC!!!
