All these empty colorful seats will be filled with

some equally colorful NASCAR fans this Saturday :)

I tagged along with my hubby to the Charlotte AutoFair

at the Charlotte Motor Speedway a couple of weeks ago.

While my hubby is a car enthusiast, I’m only vaguely aware of make and model,

but I’m a photography enthusiast and there was lots to see!

Collector car buyers, restorers, enthusiasts and car clubs

come in the spring and fall to the AutoFair.

And there’s lots of car love to be found.

Lots of nostalgia and trips down memory lane. . .

For some models, fuzzy dice are a required car accessory :)

And sights you don’t see just everywhere.

And under the hood is as shiny and bright as the polished exteriors.

Fun to spy a vintage Redmon picnic basket

in the back of a De Soto too!

Boy, my husband would have loved to be there! We have a vintage corvette and my husband goes to many of these kind of events. While I have learned some cars, like you I really do not know most of them. I always want to stage his car like the car you have in one of your pictures. Maybe one day he would let me.

    Glad you had fun there!

Mary, those photographs are fantastic! Let me tell you that there is a lot of money tied up in those cars and a lot of hours of labors of love put into them. Ever watch any of the car auctions on tv..Barrett and Jackson are my favorites..There’s another one but my mind is drawing a blank right now..guess it’s not woke up yet. Ever watch a tv show called Chasing Classics with Wayne Camini from Ct.? We’re NASCAR fans; DH and neighbor used to attend a lot of the major races as the neighbor worked for Ford and got free tickets, free parking, entrance into pit passes, and got to know a lot of the drivers. These cars bring a lot of memories back..most of these cars you showed are from my era! Use to go to Holly Ridge drag strip a lot of weekends and watch our friends in competition.

My first car was a 57chevy! Had a lot of fun in Ft. Lauderdale on the beach with that car! Brings back memories.🏁

My brain woke up finally! Meechum car auctions is the other one that I like to watch. They have a lot of “muscle cars.”

Fun photos or where you find them, right? You certainly prove why having a camera with you at all times is an absolute must.

My late beloved hubby was a Nascar enthusiast, Mary. He loved to watch the race on TV and it would put him to sleep! He always said that he never missed much.
I liked your shiny, bright, colorful photos, especially the Big Boy, the fuzzy dice, and the picnic basket ones. Happy weekend!

What a great little trip~ I love old cars, the pretty polished ones that is! They can trigger some fun memories~love the Bob’s Big Boy tray and the picnic basket! The photos of the colorful seats make the stadium look like a rainbow! I can’t imagine sitting through one of those races, although we do watch the big ones on TV, my SIL is a huge fan~

My dream is one day to have a 1964 power blue Thunderbird convertible with the white bucket seats and square tail lights. Also love the Muscle Cars – Detroit sure could put them out back then!

We love old car shows and there are several held up our way that we love to attend, especially Hagley Museum’s event held on beautiful grounds just 20 minutes from us. Mary, your pictures are amazing–so professional that they should be in a magazine! Thank you for the trip down memory lane. The old picnic basket (we had one exactly like it and I have such fond memories of all those beautiful country drives and the parks where we would lay out our yummies), the fuzzy dice (LOL), and the Big Boy (after school and weekend dates)….those were great times! Thank you for sharing these wonderful pics–can’t wait to show them to my sweetie tonight as his big dream is to restore a car.

When I was a teen (oodles of years ago!) you could usually identify a car maker and model by the shape…Today all cars tend to look the same…

There is at least one club here on the island of old car enthusiasts. On certain days they travel in caravans all around the island and sometimes all park in one location in Hilo by the bay front and people come from all over to gawk, admire and envy!

psssst….even your photos of rows of seats are art!

I would have loved these nostalgic cars so I would have enjoyed this show. I think people watching would be fun that day too. Loved the Redmon picnic basket and Shoney’s Big Boy tray.

What a fun day! The cars are beautiful Mary, sad when an engine is cleaner than my kitchen… And just think, they are the same guys that wouldn’t clean their bedroom as boys:@)

  15. October 10, 2014 at 8:40 pm

Great photos, Mary! All those shiny bright cars are perfect photo material. ‘-)

I am not a car enthusiast but Joe has a 2002 (I think) Thunderbird that is his baby. Or has been for 11 years. He is now ready to seell it for something new. The color is called Merlot and it truly is. Your photos are beautiful. Dover, De. is an hur away and on the way to the beach. When I was coming home last week, there was a race there. I managed to miss the traffic jam thank goodness:):)

Mary, these photos are over the top! My husband has a camaro ss like the one you shared. I have got to get a camera like yours!

You took the most stunning photos of the stadium and the cars….a friend of ours just “cleaned up” an almost mint condition 1955 Chevy…that was “barn parked” since 1961…love antique cars…

Breathtaking photos, Mary. Brings back memories of my dad (he didn’t race; as a hobby, he restored and “showed” old cars. Have enjoyed all of your autumn photos and posts. I haven’t been able to comment very much due to an arthritis flare-up in my writing parts (fingers, argh).
