A Proud Tom Turkey Table

A Proud Tom Turkey provided little table inspiration

with Thanksgiving a couple of weeks away!

Along with new Fresco Turkey Plates on sale from Pottery Barn.

This table came together by happenstance rather than by design.

DSC_8153-001

I found embossed leaf plates in four assorted colors at HomeGoods back in September.

Thanksgiving Fresco Turkey Plates

The teal embossed plate was in the category of ‘one of these things is not like the other’, but I picked it up, along with the gold, pumpkin and ivory color plates.

Then a couple of weeks ago, I spied this Tom Turkey strutting his stuff at HomeGoods, at a price of less than half of one online, too good not to gobble up!

He has shades of blue along with a bit of teal in his feathers.

A little table top serendipity, as satisfying as discovering that last piece of pumpkin pie :)

You are speaking my language…those combinations are just….perfect. Aren’t those “unexpected finds” just the ones that work out so well. Home Goods is my Disney!! franki

Wow Mary, I can’t believe how all the colored leaf embossed plates work so well with the turkey luncheon plates and your Tom Turkey centerpiece! The touch of teal just really brings a colorful spark. I love the flatware choice, also, and the pretty plaid runner. Looks like you’re ready for a Thanksgiving feast!

I LOVE this table!! It’s amazing how all the colors just tie together with your terrific centerpiece and new plates. What a happy surprise that an unexpected color for Thanksgiving like teal can work so well! Bravo!! Rosie @ The Magic Hutch

I have been stalking HomeGoods and have not seen this FIND. Gorgeous. Made me look on the internet. Wayfair has a lot of Kaldun & Bogle. And HomeGoods must get a steal on it from time to time because I got the artichoke tureen at a fraction of the price that it is on Wayfair. Beautiful table. As usual.

Stunning! And I’m chuckling wondering if you ever actually set cool tablesettings for your own meals at home??!! After all the work that goes into them, I would kill anyone who messed them up ! HAHAHAHA !!

  10. November 11, 2014 at 10:38 am

That is a BEAUTIFUL turkey!!! Love that it is a cookie jar too! The colors are beautiful and yes, sertendipity that you had found those plates! I did a Thanksgiving breakfast table today! XO

  11. November 11, 2014 at 10:39 am

PS, where did you find the little stand that the turkey is on???

    • November 11, 2014 at 1:08 pm

Hi Pinky, It’s a board server piece I found on a trip to the mountains :)

This is one of the most beautiful settings you have done! Love all the colors even if it was by happenstance! Now I have to go haunt Homegoods to see if they still have any of these items – and I had sworn off of them till after the first of the year to save a little money. Oh well.

  13. November 11, 2014 at 10:54 am

It always amazes me how you can see things so differently that I do. I never would have bought a single teal plate but just look how it picks up the colors in your Big Tom as well as the turkey plates. You truly have the eye for this sort of thing. I so wish I had your talent. *sigh*

The teal is the best. Just a nice pop of color. I don’t know why but every time I try to Pin anything on your site it gives me grief. Pin a specific picture and get another. Am I the only one?

    • November 11, 2014 at 1:13 pm

Hi Martha, I haven’t heard that from anyone. Are you trying to pin from a button installed on your browser or from a phone, tablet or laptop? There is a little ‘pin it’ button on the top left of each photo that pops up if you hover over it on your laptop that would allow you to pin a specific photo.

Tom Turkey and Christmas Cheer tablescapes – both wonderful!!

  16. November 11, 2014 at 11:23 am

Mary, your new Tom Turkey is a handsome guy. Kaldun Bogle off beautiful ceramics.
I would have picked up those leaf plates too, teal included. I like the mix of colors which are perfect for fall.
    Beautiful table once again!!!

  17. November 11, 2014 at 2:57 pm

I love the results of the happenstance…I think mixing the colors of the leaf plates was a great idea since they do pick up every single color in the salad plates and the magnificent Tom Turkey..Can the cookie jar be used as a tureen?

  18. November 11, 2014 at 7:02 pm

Your table settings are always so beautiful and inspiring. Your Tom Turkey cookie jar and turkey plates are so lovely together. I just love Home Goods, too. Today I found some dinner plates that coordinate so well with some special salad plates I bought some time ago. Pinning this and heading over to share it on G+!

  19. November 11, 2014 at 7:07 pm

Love those turkey dishes…the whole tablescape is so pretty!!

This was one of my favorite posts of yours…….. <3

  21. November 11, 2014 at 8:37 pm

wonderful rich colors, of course that teal is winking at me! love your dishes, dare i look for more myself, the word sale always has a hipnotic pull on me… its been over 80 since i got home, full sun and gorgeous, today i start to cook and of course cloudy, cool and windy. i gave up cooking it was so darn dark! love seeing the holiday spirit alive and well, not sure what i am doing this year, beachy or traditional, such delimmas!

as to martha, that happens to me, its because we have slow bandwidth, just keep trying, after its finished loading then you get the pic you thought you had the first time :-(

  22. November 11, 2014 at 9:13 pm

hi Mary, your new turkeys are just overflowing with the Thanksgiving spirit! I am so excited that Thanksgiving is finally getting some respect in the retail holiday scene with more and more decor available every year~ the blue is such an unexpected and refreshing twist on the Thanksgiving palette, I do get tired of the heavy dark colors~ the best tablescaping fun to me, is these tables that come together by fate and happenstance :)

I have the best time when I visit. You’ve captured the holiday itself with this beautiful table. The colorful plates make the PB turkey plates zing. Serendipity! The muted plaid tablecloth is another stroke of genius. Just gorgeous!

I loved the pop of the teal plate. Your “happenstance” is better than my design on any day. That Tom Turkey is a beauty. I’ve got to get on over to Home Goods soon.

  25. November 12, 2014 at 9:58 am

Pottery Barn needs to hire you to create their tablescapes….you rock them!!!…I have those Fresco plates and they look so much better on your table of total splendor!….I cannot imagine how your Thanksgiving tablescape that you make for your family is…and that “Tom Turkey” is fabulous!! Have not seen anything like that in my HomeGoods!!

  26. November 12, 2014 at 11:09 am

Ah! Just look at those great turkey plates!!! They are beautiful! I love the way they work so well with the turkey figurine. It’s not the easiest in my world to find an affordable turkey figurine that looks as good as yours does.

This table design is just gorgeous! It has a natural yet elegant look that inspires me to really reach out to nature. I love the deep hues in your dishes!!! The richness of each color is perfect for heralding the season and the colors found in nature.

  27. November 13, 2014 at 12:54 pm

Hello, Where did you find the acorn cake/pie server? It is not mentioned in your list. Love all that do with your table settings. Arlene

    • November 13, 2014 at 2:28 pm

It came from Pottery Barn several years ago, it’s no longer available but you might find it on eBay :)

  28. November 15, 2014 at 5:17 am

Wow that big turkey was a great find. The PB turkey plates go together well with the Tom Turkey almost as though they came from the same brand. I like the mix of color with the leaf dinner plates.

Those turkey plates are divine…love the colors in them. Beautiful centerpiece!

  30. November 12, 2015 at 11:24 am

Mary, Tom is such a handsome fella! He looks quite proud standing over the table he inspired. I think the little pop of teal adds a refreshing contrast to the usual fall colors. It is like the blue sky of autumn that brightens up all the golds and oranges. But I’m also looking at your flatware and must search for some. It would be perfect on so many different tables. This is a gorgeous fall table! Linda

    Beautiful Mary! Love the centerpiece!
