I’m at the table with some tartan plaid, Santa plates and Christmas greenery and joining Cuisine Kathleen for a Christmas Copycat Table Challenge.
Nothing says Christmas like a little tartan plaid. Add Santa and you have a Merry Santa Plaid Christmas!
I’ve been a Back Porch Musing’s fan since I started blogging, oohing & aahing over Pat’s tables and beautiful photos!
Pat’s Santa Plaid Table was my inspiration for the challenge since I had the same Santa plates and napkins and happily found a Royal Stewart Tartan tablecloth while shopping at HomeGoods in November.
I didn’t have a candleholder like Pat’s for a centerpiece. . .
So I used my lanterns instead. . .
Filling them with some greenery, apples, oranges, pine cones, and nuts for a centerpiece to enjoy through the holidays.
I added some woven chargers under the plates to pair with the bronze finish of the lanterns and complement the texture of the pine cones.
And added some red mercury glass votives for a festive holiday glow at the table.
I had similar goblets, ruby and crystal. . .
And the same duo of napkins, a red check and tartan plaid. I used beaded wreath napkin rings that had a touch of plaid ribbon.
And added a Pfaltzgraff Country Cupboard square plate under Santa.

What a great copycat design using Pat as your inspiration, Mary. You did a fabulous job using the tartan plaid, pretty ringed napkins and the glowing, lantern filled centerpiece. The table has such a a warm country charm to it and so full of color and texture. Great job, as always!
As soon as I saw the Santa plate, I thought that’s Pat’s table! It is wonderful Mary! Mad for plaid seems to be everywhere this year, and you and Pat are spot on trend with this welcoming warm setting! I love your lanterns and candles for your centerpiece. The photo of the plate stack from the side angle with the sunlight reminded me of Pat’s stunning photos too~ The adjective that comes to mind for your table is delightful! It makes you smile and feel like home and the holidays!

Tartan plaids always speak of the Christmas Season to me…Not only the Royal Stewart pattern, which I love, but other plaids such as Campbell and BlackWatch patterns that have a bit of red in them…

Hi Mary, I LOVE, LOVE your table, and as always, your photography is just beautiful. I love the Santa plates, as well as the Pfaltzgraff square plates. Your goblets and flatware look just perfect with the plates and plaid napkins. I’m trying not to be envious that you found that gorgeous tablecloth at our favorite shopping place (HomeGoods). :-D I am mad for plaid these days, and I love that we’re seeing it in so many places.
Your centerpiece is wonderful; I love your pretty lanterns and all the fresh greenery combined with fresh fruit, nuts and pinecones for the Christmas season. You did a great job of copying Pat’s table. I love seeing her blog posts as well. She has a great eye for decorating.

There was a time there I couldn’t differentiate which was which, you did such an amazing job with the challenge! The lovely plaid linen and the Santa plates just makes for a holiday table at it’s best! You met the challenge beautifully!

I would be really hard pressed to say which table I like best, yours or Pats. Both tables are gorgeous but I must say I love lanterns. Lanterns plus Santa plus tartan plaid… OMG it’s gorgeous!!!
I’m new to your site and feel so grateful to have found it. Just wanted to let you know how much my life has been impacted by following your posts. I have recently retired and am excited about the new chapter that awaits me after 45 years working in field of psychology. Just as I have helped people see things in a new way, you have also helped me to see with a fresh new perspective. My table is now being used nightly with new dishes, candles, fruit, vegetable centerpieces and a lot of color! .I am really enjoying using the flora and fauna of the season, fresh is so beautiful and discovered how much can be gathered from the garden, I have never seen fruit and vegetables displayed in such new and unusual manner. The centerpieces are so elegant and yet also casual to be able to enjoy daily. I added the golden wash to my Fall gatherings, used orange berries, pine cones, acorns and acorn leaves from the landscape., and they were so beautiful the entire month. Currently working on Christmas table and buffet , using my summer lanterns for another season (yeaah) with pine, ivy, from garden and apples, oranges, cranberries and nuts. There is so much beauty in fresh and natural, and you make it fun and simple. I love how you celebrate the beauty of the world around you in all your creativity. Bing, bang, BOOM!!! Beautiful AND spot on!!! Pat does set beautiful, classic tables, and you have done an excellent job of recreating her design. GREAT idea to use your lanterns! They are very close to the original and represent the same basic styling. Your napkin rings are beautiful…watch out if you invite me for dinner and those are on the table! You might want to check my purse at the end of the evening! :-) :-) :-)
