Winter Lake Beauty

DSC_2703-001

I’m looking for the beauty in winter while we’re surrounded by shades of gray and a blanket of fog.

DSC_2701-001

While there is nothing prettier than clear blue water reflecting blue skies, there’s something mysterious and a little magical about the quiet beauty and winter landscape of the lake.

DSC_2702-001

Especially in the early morning when the light is just starting to peek through bare branches. . .

And as the steam fog rises off the lake.

And everything is covered in a layer of frost.

And a pop of red amidst the gray is always a welcome sight!

Hope you can find the beauty in winter where you are!

What beautiful pictures, Mary! I love silhouettes of trees against the sky, in the winter months, which are a thing of beauty. The sweet birds feasting at your feeder make a gorgeous scene, also. Thank you for sharing your winter photos from the lake.

With every post on your blog, I think ‘this is my favorite one of all’. Today I had to re-arrange and make room for the winter morning fog scene – just love it. Thank you for reminding us that beauty abounds.

    Hi Mary,
Your serene pictures of this beautiful lake are taking me away to our favorite lake destination where I go out in the morning, alone, to have some “me” time and contemplate my life. This morning I have your photos open on my laptop on the kitchen counter and I am stopping to glance and breathe as I pass by each time. Charlotte’s wedding is tomorrow! Thank you for the peaceful moments.

Oh Mary, thank you for this post. It so reminds me of sitting on my Father-in-laws dock on a river in Fl. He LOVED sitting and then later, lying out on the dock and seeing the boats go by. We and the dogs would sit there with him to keep him company. I miss him alot. All of your beautiful photos (except the frosty ones:) remind me of the scene from his dock. Have a beautiful weekend.

Your pictures are always so great; you truly have an eye. Something lovely can always be found as long as we keep looking for it. A perfect day to see what lies beyond, when all the leaves are not obscuring the view. I am always amazed at things I see in autumn and winter that get missed with the tree cover of spring and summer. Thanks for sharing your beautiful shots.

Seeing your photos was like taking a mini vacation, a little break from all the snow and the 10,000 frozen lakes here in the frozen tundra known as Minnesnowta!
