I’ve been looking for something to plant above the porch roof of my Potting Shed to add some additional curb appeal.
The triangular space was a bit of a challenge, with the space broken up by a gable vent. The gable vent was fashioned from repurposed floor grates. I wanted to add something to hang to complement the vintage feel and charm of the floor grates and the rusted metal roof.
I was looking for an architectural salvage piece that would fit the space, but everything I found was pricey and better suited for indoors since it wouldn’t have any protection from the elements.
I ran across a stash of old sign letters recently. The price was right and I found the three letters I was looking for.
I’m a sucker for anything “old garden” and I have an assortment of well-worn tools I’ve collected over time.
My hubby hung a set of three hand tools above the gable vent.
And a pair of vintage garden shears on either side of “pot”.
A pitchfork and a rake fill in the space between the roof and the letters.

Love love love what you did, I was worried when I read the first sentence or two about planting up there. Sometimes we will plant anywhere we can. It does look fantastic and adds such a nice decorative touch. One of these day I will have a garden shed, but not as grand as yours. I love yours. BTW, I received the jar glasses yesterday and I do love them. Thank you again.

Good morning Mary…love your newest additions. I would be tempted to paint the handles the same red as the door for just a little more pop….or even the letters….no matter what it still is lovely to look at! ❤️
Oh Mary, This is just adorable. What an imagination you have. Thank you for sharing. I can hardly wait for the house I’m moving to in my home town is finished. I have a garden shed there but of course needs tons of updating and decorating. My Dad and I are going to add a little porch, paint it, and various other things. It will be a Father/Daughter Project. I love it when we have our time together. He has taught me so many things thru the years and continues to do so every day. I will send you pictures before we start so if you will help me out with suggestions, that would be wonderful. I will have a pond view, but I call it a small lake.. :):).

Mary, Those are wonderful letters! I wonder where they were hanging originally? I have recently been looking through old tools, both garden and hardware, from my dad and grandfather and thinking about all the hours they were held and used. Some of the wooden handles are worn totally smooth and the metal ones are distressed in a way that can’t be duplicated. Your handy hubby did a great job! Linda

Too darn cute!….As always, you are so very creative and when you have a vision you set out to accomplish it so beautifully!…Your flowers are amazing. I have to baby the few that I have with this heat…the window boxes are flourishing. It is always a real treat to start off my day to see the wonderful things that you do to your amazing potting shed.

Thanks Pinky, I’ve collected the tools over the years but found the garden shears recently at a favorite antique mall for $6 each. Hope Joe is pain-free and will be up and around like normal soon!

Have to say the new additions are right on for added appeal, not that this beauty was lacking Curb Appeal. All those beautiful blooming plans make this gardener here in HOT Texas squeal with delight. My sun garden is struggling to just be green. Not much in bloom. I’m deadheading dead leaves! ;-)

I LOVE your potting shed, I’d love one. The old tools, etc add sooo much to it. Once I had a bunch of old tools and when I moved in with my hubby I had a garage sale and an antique dealer practically stole them from me. :-( live and learn I guess.
Hi Linda, I feel your pain! I sold garden accessories and gifts in my shoppe and had some beautiful display pieces including a wonderful gate, 2 old doors, a porch swing and a cupboard with a wonderful painted patina. When we sold our business I got rid of all it which I really regret…*sigh*

Would you mind sharing the name of the color you used on your green-shed trim and garden accessories? I have a few touches of garden-green painted things around my garden, but would love to incorporate a few more. I realize that colors in photos appear different from the real thing, but I love the softness of the shade you’re using.

How Cute!!!! Great idea, Mary….you know how to make anything look awesome. I have a question that might be crazy but I wanted to know. What is that metal strip on the peak of roof? We have a metal roof on our garden shed and it was leaking in the spring. We have fixed the leak but I was wondering if we should have this on ours.

I hope you don’t want to throw rocks at me, but you’ve given me ideas for our building we have in our back yard. I’ve got lots of old hand me down tools and they are perfect for my husband a project to add to the outside of our shed.
