The heat has kept us from boating much this summer. Even if you generate a breeze with a little speed, a hot breeze is kind of like being in a convection oven. :)
We do try to fit in at least one sunset cruise a weekend.
The prettiest sunsets are when there are enough clouds in the sky for the last of the sun’s rays to dance off and reflect on.
Some of us are more about the smells than the scenery. . .
Gracie can sniff out burgers on the grill within 3 mile radius. :)
We always boat over to visit the ospreys nesting.
It won’t be long before they begin to make their migration journey to Central or South America . . .
A fact that’s hard for me to wrap my brain around since I’m a white-knuckle flyer and I get antsy after a three hour car ride. :)
Beautiful pictures, thanks for sharing.
Mary, thanks so much for the lovely cruise pictures! The clouds are exquisite, and it’s wonderful to see your family enjoying the trip so much!
Nothing like a stunning sunset over the water. Great shots!
Beautiful!
Your pictures are so great that you can actually feel like your along for the ride~
We love our sunsets too.. Not off a wonderful boat like yours but on our screened in porch. Don’t you just love those colors. Wish I could grab them and put them in something, the colors that is. I just want to use them..have a great rest of the weekend and thanks for sharing..oh, and sharing the pups too!! 😍 😎😍😎☀️☀️☀️
Red sky at night…a sailor’s delight! Beautiful photos.
Gracie is my kind of woman!
Wonderful sunset pictures! Thanks for sharing! Love your blog…
The are all so beautiful!! Love the pink cotton candy sky! Hug the babies for me! :)
Thank you for the sunset cruise Mary~there is nothing prettier than the open vistas of sky over water. I did not know that ospreys migrated south for the winter, I just assumed that stayed around all year. I’m hoping for a sunset cruise next weekend along with some cool dips in the pool…our local news said it will be a little cooler next week so hopefully that will include you too!
Jenna
We do have the most spectacular sunsets in the South, don’t we?
In a word…amazing!!
Looks like a perfect way to end the day Mary! Oh, and a grilled burger doesn’t sound bad either:@)
Beautiful sunset Mary. I saw where the lake level is down 4’6″. We need rain.
Hi Carolyn, The water depth at the end of our dock is now at 4 feet. We all need to do a rain dance!
that was refreshing, although convection oven did crack me up. love that gracie is a food hound, cassie is my little bloodhoud too, she would have been a great rescue dog, she is tuned into all that wafts by. tell me who puts up the poles for nestings, homeowners?
Hi to you, Hope you’re cozy and cool in your foggy seaside bungalow! The platforms are erected and sponsored by homeowners and businesses through Lake Norman Wildlife Conservationists. Here’s a fun story about an osprey nesting on the chimney of a McMansion and threatening to ruin their imported $750,000 French roof tiles: http://www.charlotteobserver.com/news/local/article9107615.html
thanks for the update, they got a heck of deal from 22 down to 4.4, osprey included :-) only 12 nests on the lake, interesting, but so nice they work for the better of all~
cool as ever here, but we escaped up the coast for some full on sun frolick this weekend, ONLY where i live is it the foggest place in the world… saw a HUGE pod of whales yesterday, several dozzen, the water was an explosion of geyzers all tightly packed together, it was EXHILARATING!
Beautiful photos! I enjoyed the cruise, thanks. Ruth
Mary, your sunset cruise takes me back to our own days spent on the lake. Beautiful way to end a day. I’ve been going through old photos and recently found some from the first summer we had our sailboat. Oh, my, but do we look young and trim. ‘-) That was 40 summers ago!
I’m envious! Your calm lake looks amazing. We have a little boat, but we don’t get to use it much anymore…it’s always really hot and crowded on our AZ lakes in the summer…so I know what you mean about that “hot breeze!”
Love your blog, and your gorgeous pictures. We have just returned from Lake Keowee in South Carolina, where we enjoyed similar spectacular sunsets. I watched the birds from the water, and I thought I was looking at hawks gliding through the sky. Am I mistaken? Have I been looking at ospreys?
Thanks Lorrie, yes they were most likely osprey -> http://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/Osprey/id
What amazing sunset pictures with the peaceful, relaxing atmosphere you have been able to extend to all of your readers through your blog, thank you!
Sue said it best! Thank you!
Well it’s so HOT here in Texas, Mary, that I’ve been staying in, except for doing my morning swims.
I sure enjoyed you taking me on your boat with you and seeing the gorgeous sunset views. Hmmmm…. I wonder why I’m hungry for a burger now?!
Happy Sunday to you!
Awesome pictures! Just mystical!
What beautiful sunset photos!
~Mary~
Absolutely beautiful sunset !!
The puppies make me giggle, love the one sitting on your hubbys lap, men can be softies when it comes to their pets too, when my husband comes home from work I think its to see Lexy our Boxer !! :)

Beautiful post! God’s creation is wonderful and we get to enjoy the beauty. Your ‘pups’ are adorable. I’m glad they get to enjoy the boat ride, too. Enjoy your blog
Gorgeous skies and precious puppies… who could ask for more? Lovely pictures!
Love these photo! Especially the cute doggies! What a nice evening,
Oh, how I love a sunset cruise. Thanks for posting. Your Gracie and my Gracie are two of a kind.
Mary, Your photos are amazing, as always! I read the hilarious story of the osprey who nested in a chimney~~those birds most certainly had excellent taste to pick a $ 22million house for their nest! :) Your lake looks quite deserted and peaceful at sunset. Such a gorgeous place to enjoy the colors and clouds. Linda
p.s. the only thing that gets me on a plane is thinking of the wonderful adventures awaiting me at the destination!
What a most glorious way to end the day with an evening cruise with a most spectacular sunset. Hey, I am like Gracie…I can smell a burger on a grill miles away!!
God knows how to delight us with His painting skills :-)
