We’ve been a little glum about the lack of water in the pond. . .
We’ve had a few pop up showers this week, any rain at all is welcome!
Lake Norman is about 5 1/2 feet down from full pond.
Staring at red clay doesn’t quite evoke the same feelings of calm and serenity as a view with blue water does. :)
One of the benefits of living on the lake is our lake-fed irrigation. Our irrigation pipe and intake that runs parallel to our neighbor’s dock is sitting on the ground now instead of under water.
We’re still able to boat unlike a lot of folks who rely on area boat ramps that are closed due to low lake levels, and those whose floating docks are now grounded.
As nice as it is to be able putt around and enjoy a sunset cruise, we’re more concerned about losing trees and shrubs to drought with our well running dry than whether or not we can boat.
We’re keeping paws crossed every time a cloud appears in the sky.
And seeing even a piece of a rainbow is a hopeful and positive sign :)
In addition showers we’re enjoying some cooler temperatures and a teaser of fall weather to come!
Chloe & Gracie hope you’re enjoying some cooler weather and some rest and relaxation this weekend :)
Beautiful pics, Mary! Your post evokes a long ago memory of similar weather conditions when we were living on Kerr Lake in Virginia. A severe drought greatly reduced lake levels and limited opportunities to boat from one’s dock. It was a repeat issue for a few years. Hope Lake Norman will be returning to normal levels and stay at that point!
So sorry about your water levels and pray for rain out there. Nice and cool, this weekend so far this weekend, but to warm back up to the eighties this week.
Blessings to you fellows along with those adorable pups.

The girls look so cute! Thanks for sharing ! Sorry about your water levels. We finally got rain this summer and our pond has water in it. Nice to see the ducks return. Have a blessed Sunday!🍁
That must be heart wrenching seeing your “pond” in distress, and your view a constant reminder of the water worries. I know you are happy to be able to still boat, but your fur babies do look very worried! Love the crossed paws :) Surely cooler temps and changing weather will bring some rain. 61 on the coast this morning, it feels amazing!

Last year and the year before our water tables were so low we were extremely worried. When we drove across the Missouri River into St Louis County the river looked as if we could actually walk across. Fortunately, this year things are looking so much better. I hope you get much needed moisture soon!
It’s the same way here. The plus to lower water is a little shoreline cleaning up and it made it easier to remove the floating trampoline for the winter. A cool fifty six degrees this morning. The girls are beautiful! Enjoy your Sunday.
Oh those pups are so cute drought or no drought. Maybe you should have a party and have everyone do a rain dance. We’ve tried it when our Memorial Gulf tournament is played here in Ohio.
Such precious pups!!! We can relate to your low water levels and drought conditions here on Lake Murray in SC. Hate the reddish orange clay that is the norm here also. Luckily we have a tritoon that we can keep pushing out to take a ride if need be. Still a few feet of water at our dock but rain is needed desperately here and up lake to the rivers and lakes that feed into ours. So enjoy your writings and photography especially of Chloe and Grace. Rain Dancing here in Chapin….
What cute fur babies! Wishing you get some much needed rain. So sorry to hear about Lake Norman. We have some West Point classmates who live there too. You need to do a rain dance! We have been having a lot of rain here in Virginia. We will send some your way!
Mary, I don’t think there is a cuter pair of Bichon Frise in the world. Chloe and Gracie capture my heart each and every time I see their little smiling faces. Anyone can tell they are happy girls! I added a couple of these to my Dog Gone Cute Board. ‘-)
Sorry the lake is down. We have had such a drought here for years that our lakes have definitely suffered. Last Memorial Day’s torrential rain helped Lake Travis recover, but those rains also cost many their lives and properties.
Quite the opposite here in Whitehall, MI on White Lake. We are about 3-4′ high this year, not having to put out two sections of dock for our pontoon boat.
Love your site for many reasons, one of which slap sharing a bichon, Bailey, which we adore.
Your post brought back memories of when I was young. My mother worked with a woman who owned property on Lake Norman and we visited them one summer. Had a wonderful time. Hoping for rain for all of you. We also have a well so I understand your concern. Peggy
Thank you for sharing your photos of Chloe and Gracie and the beauty of Lake Norman. Hope your area gets rain soon. Enjoy this beautiful day and the cooler temperatures.
I love your boards and Chloe and Gracie. I have a Maltipoo sisters, that looks just like them! I have tried your recipes and they have been a hit! Thank you! I am in California and right now we are experiencing many fires to the point that our air is filled with smoke! The drought is hurting us in so many ways! I pray for rain daily! Again, I love “Home is Where The Boat Is.”
The dogs are so cute! Hope you get your rain soon. We had quite a bit here in the last couple of days as a front moved through and brought us 20 degree cooler temps. Oh it’s been so nice. We are all thinking about fall now. Have a great week ahead!
I hope you get the rain!!! We FINALLY did, it rained Friday and POURED most of the day yesterday. It was a blessing! This morning til about 3 it was VERY cool, then the sun came out and it is beautiful now. Chloie and Gracie always make me smile, thanks for shring them. Happy Sunday to you too!
All of your photos are just so beautiful! We had quite a storm a few days ago and were graced with a double rainbow. Hoping for more rain for you.

We had a terrible drought like you’re experiencing for the past several years, but this year our lakes are full. I hope you get some much needed relief soon, Mary. The pics of Chloe and Gracie looking so glum is just priceless! They make anyone smile with their cuteness!
Oh no, the lake isn’t looking good. We live in Troutman, about 3 miles from Lake Norman State Park during the winter months. We were promised a pontoon boat ride docked in Denver in October. I hope we can make it. Love your doggies.
That first pic is adorable! I hope you get your needed rain soon Mary, we had a dry spell that lasted over a month but it finally poured here this past week. It’s 54 as I type, very nice sleeping weather:@)
Same in our “hood.” :( Usually the lake is up to the first step on our stairway…now…down to step four… We, too, have gotten “teasers”…it’s back to “beefing up” our shoreline (in anticipation!!) LUV the pups!! franki
Mary, I’m sorry to hear the lake situation hasn’t improved yet. Your red clay bottom is intriguing to me. Our lakes have rocky, mushy, or sandy bottoms. I’m guessing the red clay is a nice base for walking on. I’ve lived with wells for most of my life and I know how worrisome that can be ~~ I hope you get rain soon. Do Chloe and Gracie know how cute they are? I wonder if they plan these poses because they know they are irresistible when they put on those faces! :) Linda
Your fur-kids are so cute! Have a splendid day!
I live in CA, we would love some rain also. Great pictures thanks for sharing

As always I love seeing the pups!
Hope rain comes your way soon! Your puppies are so adorable, and your comments make them appear even more so….(if that’s possible…………..:)

Somewhere over the rainbow are two puppies longing for their boat ride!! Looks like they got it so have a great day!! 😎😎😎

it looks so peaceful and idyllic… do you still read out on the boat these days?
