A Fall Nook on the Porch

Fall is only a week away by the calendar and while it may take longer for Mother Nature to get the memo here in the South, I’m counting down the days!

DSC_8234-001

We had a some cooler weather over the weekend with morning temperatures in the 50s and highs in the 70s, making it enjoyable to be on the porch again for dining and reading. . .

DSC_8209-001

And enjoying coffee in the mornings. . .

Or a glass of wine in the evening.

There’s nothing like some crisp, cool weather to energize you! We’re warming back up to the high 80s later this week, but a few days reprieve from the heat was enough to inspire me to add a little fall nook on the porch.

DSC_8224-001

I added some pillows and throws with a little plaid and fall color for some cozy layers.

DSC_8198-001

And while leaves won’t begin to turn here until mid-October,  pumpkins are starting to trickle in to garden centers. I’m ready to cozy up with pillow versions of both!

DSC_8183-001

I added some botanicals for a little fall color and texture to a pair of lanterns.

And a basket has a harvest of mums, Indian corn, ivy and willow pumpkins.

I can always get a Fall fix and find inspiration from magazines. . .

One of my favorites to pick up the Autumn issue of Southern Lady Magazine.

Feast your eyes on some dreamy photos of pumpkins on the porch while you wait for Fall to arrive. . .

After the summer in “Hotlanta” I am so ready for fall. Your pictures are so pretty, love those Bichons.🎃

Ready for fall! I love any of the Hoffman Media magazines. The Autumn Bliss VIctoria Classics special edition is chock full of beauty too. But what I’d really like is to have a 5 min spree in your stash closets! Oh my, I’d really struggle between scrambling for the textiles or the dishes (and not just those featured in your post today). I love that brown corduroy leaf pillow! Always a visual feast here on your blog – thank you for the continued inspiration.

Your nook looks so cozy Mary, even though it’s hard to believe we will be snuggling under blankets anytime soon~ I can’t imagine anything better than sitting there with a lap full of fur babies, fall magazines and a cool glass of wine, heaven! Love your corduroy leaf and funky pumpkin. I can’t wait to get a load of pumpkins and mums!

What a warm, inviting, cozy nook you’ve created on your porch, Mary. Chloe and Gracie just make me smile when I see them!! I’m never sorry to see summer end, and I’m still impatiently waiting for Fall to arrive in Texas.

You are such an inspiration! Not only with your decorating tips but also with the devotions you share. I love your precious dogs. I’m on the board at our local shelter and I devote my time to making a life the abused and homeless animals deserve. Thank you for your encouraging words. Happy Fall!

Ok ms Mary….clois du bois is my fave wine..one more reason for u to come here to redecorate my house!! And let me borrow some of that dishware you have stashed!!
This morning, my new plan is to make my porch cozier! Thanks for the inspiration. And boo hiss hiss to hot weather. I am SO OVER summer.

Your porch nook is perfection, Mary! Your models are adorable!

  11. September 16, 2015 at 9:34 am

Our internet broke for a week, so nice to come back to your fall moments…

  12. September 16, 2015 at 10:19 am

I clutch Summer tightly, we are still enjoying beautiful beach days! September is so beautiful here, the tourists are gone and it is very peaceful! That is not to say I don’t enjoy seeing your beautiful Fall decor. I am always gun ho in June to get the wrap around porch ready for Summer, but I don’t really do much for Fall. Wreaths on the door and a few mums and scarecrows. The deer eat the pumpkins, so I switched to metal ones! Bite that, Bambi! :). Thanks for the beautiful pictures!

Mary, it looks like Chloe and Gracie are ready to cozy up on the porch for a little snooze in one of the pretty blankets. I picked up those magazines too, but honestly haven’t even had the time to open them up for a quick look. I’m slowing adding some fall touches here, but the SLOW is to be accented here. I need some consistently cooler weather. It was back into the 90s yesterday and high humidity. I know you can relate.
Have fun relaxing on the porch.

  16. September 16, 2015 at 11:25 am

Love your nook. I would be hanging out there all the time. Your dogs really like the nook also, they are darling.
I am so ready for FALL. We have hot weather since January and lately in the high ninety’s and one hundreds.
We did get rain yesterday which was wonderful. My plants seemed like they were dancing in the rain. I understand that this weekend will be HOT again.
Have a wonderful weekend in your nook.

Mary, I can always count on you for inspiration! Your nook is so warm and inviting, perfect fall décor. Gracie and Chloe provide just the right amount of cuteness! Please share your resources for the plaid pillow, throw and pumpkin on the bench. Thank you, wishing you a lovely fall!

    • September 16, 2015 at 1:37 pm

Thank you Penny! The plaid pillow is from Target this fall; the throw, from HomeGoods several years ago; the pumpkin from Hobby Lobby a couple of years ago :)

The leaf pillow is what I’m drooling over! Can’t find one anywhere on the internet. Resource?

      • September 17, 2015 at 5:07 pm

The leaf pillow came from Hobby Lobby several years ago, there is no manufacturer’s tag on it unfortunately.

    Mary,

Chloe and Gracie have the right idea to snuggle up for a nap in the nook. You have such beautiful autumn decorations. It reminds me of growing up in West Virginia in the country.

TeeHEE! I just showed your post to my husband, (because he has been complimenting me on my photography) and I said–this is what I’m up against….beautiful close-up photos..(besides-excellent ideas) and low and behold, he said, “Guess we will need to update your camera—-!”

Woot, thank-you for making him~~ THINK–it was his idea!…LOL—Gorgeous post! Thanks a billion, Sandi.

The colour of autumn through your creativity and your lovely dogs how beautiful. Thank you, love, nia

  21. September 16, 2015 at 12:46 pm

Your fall nook in the porch looks so warm and welcoming!

I’m more than ready for our own version of fall…this summer has been unbelievably hot and muggy as a result of several Cat 4 hurricanes that (thank goodness) decided not to drop in and skirted our islands….and cut off out trade winds…

Evenings and early mornings are already cooler….Yay!

I’m always ready for fall to start. I am tired of the long hot days. I am ready for hot chocolate, pumpkin donuts, and nights out back on the patio with friends and lanterns lit as the days get dark earlier. I love all the fall festivals and craft fairs, football (even if I end up falling asleep on the couch with my kittens during the game), volleyball games, and all the delicious apples in their peak. Flavored hot chocolate (World Market has a great red velvet), cider, and caramel apples- Yum!

  23. September 16, 2015 at 5:36 pm

Lovin’ your corduroy leaf pillow Mary! Personally, I’m always ready for fall:@)

  24. September 16, 2015 at 6:00 pm

Mary, I am actually ready for fall this year! Your pictures are getting me even more excited for crispy days and wool blankets. Soon your two furry cuties will need their sweaters! Linda

Because I live in the MI and we have such L O N G winters, it’s hard to let our lovely summer go. I love to decorate for fall and so this weekend I shall start now that you have presented such inspirational pictures. LOVE the corduroy leaf pillow also. Can you share where you purchased that? You have so many extra special touches!! Kiss the fur-babies for me – would love to give them a hug.

Your Fall nook is so cozy and rustic with the colors and natural elements. I love it. I would find lots of excuses all day for sitting out there! I am looking forward to Fall but it’s just not here yet in the Northeast! I am starting to decorate a little but I want that crisp air to put me in the mood!

So warm and inviting, Mary. I hope the weather cools a bit in your neck of the woods. It’s been a hot, muggy September, and I’m starting to wonder if we’ll see a changing season: our trees are still mostly green. Give the pups a hug from Auntie Mlee.
