At the Table: Pfaltzgraff Painted Poppies and a Blooming Pumpkin

I’m at the table with Pfaltzgraff Painted Poppies dinnerware and a blooming pumpkin centerpiece.

Painted Poppies by Pfaltzgraff provides bold and colorful blooms for the table in a warm palette for fall.

Each piece of the handcrafted collection is made of stoneware with a reactive glaze, with variations in color and pattern, just like flowers in nature.

A tablecloth and napkins with floral medallions provide some additional blooms for a foundation for the table.

I added some round madras woven chargers for some warm texture and contrast to the glaze and finish of the stoneware. They’re layered on scalloped edge woven mats, to provide a flower petal effect.

I was thrilled to discover a shortcut recently to create a blooming pumpkin centerpiece!

 The time-consuming step of hollowing out your pumpkin is eliminated to make a vase for your flowers with this method but you have same effect.

Here’s the secret that’s so simple and obvious, I wish I had discovered it sooner. You add a piece of wet floral foam on top of your pumpkin. If your pumpkin has a short stem, you can use the stem to anchor the wet foam in place. My pumpkin was stemless so I used some wet floral tape to secure it to the pumpkin.

You can find wet foam and tape on the floral aisle at the craft store. I found a 2-pack of small round wet floral blocks at Dollar Tree, or you can cut your floral brick the size you need.

Your pumpkin will last whole and uncut so that you can enjoy a fresh arrangement, easily replacing your wet foam and flowers several times during the fall season. I used this same pumpkin as a base for my Chick-fil-A Bouquet.

I picked a $4 bundle of mums and alstroemeria at the grocery store for this floral. I added some snips of shrubs~ Loropetalum with its burgundy-tinted foliage and Kaleidoscope Abelia with blush pink-tinted tips and white bell-shaped flowers. I had a surplus of sage growing so I cut some for the soft texture and gray color to blend with the pumpkin.

Floral fruit bowls with petal embossing are available in all three colors of blooms in the dinnerware~ red, white and gold .

Jumbo soup mugs hold 24 ounces of your favorite fall soup or chili.

Serving pieces including a covered butter dish, salt and pepper shakers, creamer and sugar bowl are available in the Painted Poppies collection.

And a 3 Piece Caddy on Wood Tray is available for organizing kitchen tools or flatware.
