With All Hallows’ Eve approaching, I couldn’t resist having a little scary fun at the table.
I was creeping along the aisles of HomeGoods a couple of weeks ago where I found haunted house plates, elegantly decrepit in a gold luxe finish for a haunted tableau, along with “no tricks, just treats” appetizer plates.
“Eat, Drink, and Be Scary” bowls were just the right size to offer up some black and white treats of foil-wrapped ghosts and candy eyes. Skellie suckers, candy twist pops, and candy corn truffles in a spider web mini cupcake wrappers, are nestled in a bed of black paper shred.
A lacy spider web tablecloth is layered over a matelasse coverlet for the table and straw black placemats have a web-like texture and setting for the haunted house plates.
Grave Hill Cellars Witches & Warlocks, Cauldron Brewed Bubbled and Boiled, Established 1666, is bubbling with mini ghostly white pumpkins, ravens and black bottles of bubbly Brut . . .
Flutes are waiting with straws to sip from if you dare. . .
In addition to treats, I have a three easy tricks or tips for scaring up a haunted table for Halloween.
I use denture adhesive cream to keep candle tapers secure in their holders. I have better luck with it than tacky wax and you can squeeze out the amount you need. Anything safe for your witchy dentures is safe for your mother’s silver wedding candleholders too. Thanks, mom <|:>)
Look on the costume aisle at Party City, Target or Walmart if you can’t find napkin rings for your table. I found inexpensive cuff bracelets at Target to repurpose as napkin rings to place on a sleeve of napkins.
I always check out the Dollar Spot at Target, you never know what may lurk there! Foil bottle labels provided a little inspiration for a Dying of Thirst Cocktail for All Hallow’s Eve.
Applied to a bottle of cava, Freixenet, the black bottle bubbly and serve.
Mix the cava or sparkling wine of choice with pomegranate juice to the ratio you prefer. Festive for witches and warlocks served as is, or with ginger ale to stretch your bubbles, making it less potent and lethal.
Add a black sugar rim to your glass, a glittery spider and some festive straws.

Now the rest…. Since we are generally on the road between Maine and Houston at Halloween there’s little opportunity for me to scare up spooky things. I do enjoy what the rest of you conjure up however.

The silver wine chiller is fabulous!!!! I thought at first it was a trophy and couldn’t imagine where in the world you came up with it! Love those votives too. And the candles, this table and the last one. You are amazing!!!!

Very cool. I’ve simply avoided going to Homegoods the last two weeks, since I wouldn’t be able to use anything scarey this year. We will have to muddle along with some spooky napkins…and we are only getting a quick visit with the grand on Saturday. I almost bought those plates Mary! I think they are frightfully cute, and I love all the scary treats you found to go with your table of creepy spiders and devilish dining.
