Adding Christmas Joy to the Potting Shed

DSC_3546-001

Have you finished decking the halls and trimming the tree? I’ve been adding some Christmas Joy to the back porch of my Potting Shed. . .

DSC_3467-001

I hung some galvanized letters on my shutters to spell “Joy” and cut some sprigs of cedar to tuck in the louvers for a little Christmas green.

Pots are filled with Christmas greenery, free for the clipping, and my ladder is draped with pine garland.

A rake is decorated with hanging ornaments tied with twine and some vintage garden tools.

A wire cloche is filled with a mixture of pine cones and inexpensive shatterproof red ornaments, nesting on a bird bath.

Pine garland is climbing a bird finial topiary, replacing the mandevilla growing this summer.

And a bird is nesting with pine cones on a pillow with a plaid throw.

A pair of urns on the porch are filled with a mixture of greenery~ Leyland cypress, holly, juniper and pine.

I added the cut stems directly into the soil in the urn to hold them in place and to keep them fresh longer.  Red ornaments add a pop of color and Christmas cheer, along with hanging stars.

Very merry Mary, I love all the little details! It’s been so mild in Philly the snow falling on your blog is the only snow I’ll be seeing this holiday season:@)

    Beautiful decor!🎄😎🌴

I love your red h20ing can, the perfect topper! Of course i am smiling at the common thread of decorating that we share, from joy, to garden bits and pieces, right down to our toesies! The difference is we had a storm roll through sending citrus rolling, tree’s toppling and the greatest offense watching deer eating my decorated bench… Oh well, today I can refresh and repair, the joys of living in the jet stream by the sea! From front to back your shed is always a show stopping crowd pleaser!

This is wonderful Mary. I’m imagining it with snow fallen all around it but I don’t imagine you get any there? We still don’t have any up here yet but I think we will be the end of the week.

Love you shed! I know I keep telling you that. Mary I always wonder what your home is like if this is your shed. My inside decorating is done and most of the outside. I am so happy when I open my email and see you have done another post.

Your potting shed says JOY without the galvanized letters Mary, it is so merry and bright!! I really love how you’ve turned your ladder into a Christmas tree with a red watering can topper! Every rake needs some shiny ornaments hanging from it’s prongs of course~You are ready for a joyful holiday!

Oh Mary, what inspiration you’ve shared with us! I had to keep scrolling up and down to check and re-check! Your guests must love coming to check out all your creativity. The ornaments hanging from the rake would be easy for anyone to do. Oh, and the ladder…how festive it is. Thanks for sharing all your sources with us. I’m in love with those birch candle holders. The only thing better would be seeing all this in person!

Not only is your potting shed surrounded by the beauty of Christmas Joy….you bring us much Joy at Christmas with your amazing decorations among the quaint and wonderful vintage garden items…and you certainly bring us great Joy every day of the year!….

  18. December 14, 2015 at 1:37 pm

I love your potting shed / play house at any time of year, but it does take on magical properties during Christmas!
    Merry Christmas, Mary!

  19. December 14, 2015 at 1:55 pm

It feels like Santas work shop here… I can so see this much rustic Christmas backdrop used for a holiday photo shoot where kids sit on Santas lap with there list of what they want him to bring and your potting shed as the back drop I am not sure when I have ever seen such outdoors holiday wonderlust….you have created the most amazing holiday greeting card cover.

    Thank you for your sharing.

Thank you Doré. Our neighbors did in fact bring their children over to be photographed by it this year for their Christmas card. :) Merry Christmas!

  20. December 14, 2015 at 2:59 pm

Lovely!!! You are always so inspiring, Mary! I love all the details and the JOY letters are perfect on the shutter.

Please excuse me for mentioning this… but I do hope you’ll not be staying with the black background with white lettering. It is almost impossible for me to read this. I have great vision and do not wear glasses…except readers sometimes. My fingers are crossed. [hugs]

    • December 14, 2015 at 6:52 pm

Thanks Diane, The black background is for the month of December. I debated about whether it would be harder to read but the contrast makes the photos pop. :)

I think I want to live in your house or just the potting shed :-)

  22. December 14, 2015 at 3:51 pm

I just want to move into your shed, long as the periodic decorator shows up to redo it…LOL. Merriest of Christmases! Sandi

  23. December 14, 2015 at 6:33 pm

Feliz Navidad, is there a tutorial on the wire cloches? They would be fun to make! Merci, Danke, Thank you, Joan

    • December 14, 2015 at 6:35 pm

Hi Joan, No tutorial, I purchased the cloche at HomeGoods. :)

  24. December 14, 2015 at 8:44 pm

Love your Christmas décor for the outside of your potting shed. The snowflakes on your blog are so neat. The weather here has been unusually warm for December 60’s and 70’s. This weekend the temperatures will be back to the 40’s and 50’s. My mother-in-law’s name is Joy and she loves this time of the year. We haven’t started our tree decorating yet. We plan on decorating today. Hope your MIL is getting better day by day.

  28. December 15, 2015 at 10:47 am

Hehe! I can see Santa on your porch with adult gardeners sitting on his lap! I would ask him to bring me a vintage watering can or two, especially a RED one! It is always a delight to see how you’ve decorated your potting shed!

  29. December 15, 2015 at 12:36 pm

You were featured on the country living magazine Instagram and online post today! Congratulations!

Your potting shed is the envy of blogland for sure. I love ALL the Christmas embellishments you have done this year. I just wish I lived close by and could see it in person.
