A Winter Woodland Table + Snowflake Pizzelles

Happy January!

Have you un-decked the halls and are your Christmas decorations put away?

Winter Woodland Table | ©homeiswheretheboatis.net #winter #tablescape #tablesetting #pinecones

I’m making the transition from Christmas to winter around the house and at the table

with a wintry woodland mix of tree slice chargers, pine cones,

snowflakes and Pfaltzgraff Chateau dinnerware.

Winter Woodland Table | ©homeiswheretheboatis.net #winter #tablescape #tablesetting #pinecones

Pfaltzgraff Chateau dinnerware provides some texture and interest for dining with an

embossed cream stoneware surface, highlighted with brown scalloped edges.

When I first saw this pattern, the round center medallion

and embossed design reminded me of snowflakes.

Winter Woodland Table | ©homeiswheretheboatis.net #winter #tablescape #tablesetting #pinecones

I foraged for a tablecloth with a woodland theme and found one with pine cones and branches.

Shades of beige, brown, gray-blue, and white scattered snowflakes,

provide a wintry pattern and foundation for the table.

A pine bough spray with metallic accents of bronze, gold and silver branches

mix with snow-tipped pine cones and silvery berries in the center of the table.

Lanterns are filled with a mixture pine cones and botanicals to complete a woodland centerpiece.

Wood beaded snowflake napkin rings add some texture and interest

to a pair of embroidered pine cone and hemstitched napkins.

A Pfaltzgraff Chateau bowl provides a pedestal to elevate birch wrapped candles,

and an additional woodland detail to the table.

After a couple of weeks of warmer than average December temperatures,

our weather is back in the normal range and I’m keeping

my fingers crossed for some snowflakes this winter!

Easy Snowflake Pizzelles | homeiswheretheboatis.net #winter #cookie

You can make your own edible snowflakes with a pizzelle iron or use a short-cut

with ready-made pizzelles. Pizzelles are Italian wafer cookies.

Easy Snowflake Pizzelles | homeiswheretheboatis.net #winter #cookie

I found ready-made pizzelles at the grocery store for scattered snowflakes and sweet ending for the table.

Winter Woodland Table with Snowflake Pizzelles | ©homeiswheretheboatis.net #winter #tablescape #tablesetting #pinecones

I piped a snowflake design with royal icing on the cookies and sprinkled

the icing with sanding sugar while wet for sparkling snowflakes.

Winter Woodland Table with Snowflake Pizzelles | ©homeiswheretheboatis.net #winter #tablescape #tablesetting #pinecones

I used an easy recipe for royal icing without meringue powder to decorate the pizzelles.

Mix 1 cup confectioner’s sugar with 2 teaspoons milk, 2 teaspoons light corn syrup and 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

(substitute almond or lemon extract if you prefer). Stir the sugar mixture until smooth.

Easy Snowflake Pizzelles | homeiswheretheboatis.net #winter #cookie

Add more milk by 1/2 teaspoons at a time as needed, stirring until your desired consistency.

Add your icing to a piping bag or use a plastic ziptop bag and

snip off the corner to pipe your snowflake designs.

Sprinkle your piped snowflake with sanding or decorative sugar and shake off the excess sugar.

Allow snowflakes to dry completely, about 1 hour.

WOW!! What a gorgeous table!! A welcome rest for the eyes after Christmas red and green (which I love). I particularly love the lanterns and the napkins rings..very unusual, and I love that!!! My Christmas decor was put away by December 29th. I love it going up but am always ready for it to be gone so I can think of other things to do..like GARDENING!!!! 😍🌻🌼🌺🌹🌷💐🌸☘🍀

A beautiful winter wonderland! You captured a snowy woodland scene perfectly. My toes are feeling cold even though I’m in Florida.

I love your Winter Woodland table setting and all of the colors and textures! What a great transition after Christmas! I’m thinking of doing a Woodland theme for next Christmas (which is a little difficult when you are a Santa Collector and like displaying Santas!) and this has so many great ideas and inspiration. Thanks for sharing….Happy New Year!

I am crazy about this dinnerware Mary, love the dark uneven edges~it looks perfect atop the wood slice chargers surrounded by your wintry mix! The pizzelle snowflake cookies are just wonderful, and thank you for the icing recipe without meringue, I will definitely be trying that~ I have undecked and “winterized” but have no wish for snow :) Happy week,
    Jenna

Very pretty combo, love your napkin ring. Today I dismantle Christmas, I admire your new years tree and now winter decor, I will be lucky to get Easter up this year ;-)

~~I’m NOT buying any more dishes~I’m NOT buying any more dishes~I’m NOT buying any more dishes~~Lalalalala…I can’t hear you!!
These are SNOW pretty, Mary….why do you keep doing this to me? When I die, I’m leaving a note that my DD is to blame YOU for all the work she’ll have to do. LOL

I have two pizzelle makers & one of them does this smaller size. I never in a million years would have thought to ice & decorate them. Darn it, I’ll have to make some more, as I only have ONE pizzelle left from Christmas. My larger iron imprints my monogram on them on one side…ultimate ego trip, huh?

Thanks for sharing this really pretty winter table. I’ve got all my Evergreen Ernies out & they’re ready for their close-ups, since it is snowing here today & we have BRIGHT LIGHT! Yay!!

    Hugs,
    R.

A wonderful transition decor for winter! The snowflake pizzelles are just the right touch. I am trying to create a winter wreath for my front door! Thanks for sharing your talent Mary!

What a lovely tablescape! It’s perfect for Winter! The china does have the appearance of snowflakes and looks so pretty with your accessories. I adore the cookies- they’re the icing on the cake!

The tablescape and dishes are gorgeous, I love it. My neighbor brought me some pizzeles yesterday, how appropriate. She most always makes them every year at Christmas time. They are so good and such a nice cookie to have with a cup of coffee or hot chocolate.

I’ll be back: have an appt. but had to say that tablecloth is GORGEOUS!!! Perfect for all winter! See ya later:)

I have also transitioned to winter but does not compare to what you have done. I used white and gold plates, white napkins, gold snowflake napkin rings, and plenty of sparkle and candles. Put a white ice skate with sparkle on my large green wreath on front door (had it hanging inside at Christmas) and an arrangement to match. Welcome snow!!!! Thinking about your fur babies. They are so adorable. May have to have a fur baby this year myself. Enjoy it all Mary. Thank you.

Have un-decked the halls and Christmas is packed away. It never occurred to me to have a “winter” theme. Brilliant idea! I usually just limp along in no-season-land until Spring. Guess I am thinking that snow is my winter theme although we don’t always have snow in middle TN. Thank you for the inspiration…and the no meringue royal icing recipe!. Have a great day, Mary.

What a beautiful table! And I’m so excited to see the royal icing recipe without meringue powder, since my sweet granddaughter has allergies to eggs and milk. We use coconut milk in cooking for her, and I am going to try your recipe using that milk. She’d love to help decorate gingerbread men, cookies, etc! Thank you for sharing this.

  25. January 4, 2016 at 6:10 pm

As always, your table is just perfect in every way. Living in Florida, I miss some parts of winter, and certainly your pretty table reminds me of those parts. The tablecloth was perfect for pulling together all of the elements of your winter woodland table. Thank you so much for sharing it with us!

  29. January 4, 2016 at 8:43 pm

Mary, another gorgeous table…the dishes are perfect for a winter setting! I have un-decorated and have it all put away! It has gotten cold in my neck of the woods after a balmy Christmas! Pam @ Everyday Living

Love your idea to transition to winter theme!!! Seems it all gets lost after Christmas until Spring. The dishes are beautiful and also remind me of snowflakes. This year I purchased the deer in snow by PB, since it reminds me of all the deer coming around in the snowy woodlands foraging for food. Those plates would be a nice pairing to layer with mine. The wood chargers and candles I have and can thankfully use again and again-love that!!! Thanks
PS those birch candles get a lot of use during the winter months; they have an auto timer and really warm up the look of a room, along with a couple over sized faux fur pillows and throw to snuggle up in by the fire.
Hope you are all staying warm and cozy!!!

  34. January 5, 2016 at 2:59 pm

Oh my goodness Mary, that is such a beautiful wintry tablescape. Oh dear me, do I ever live those dishes…perfect for everyday!! The tablecloth is sooo pretty and I love the birch candles and the pinecone filled lanterns. The pizzelles are adorable, and what a simple royal icing recipe. You are so creative and who’d have thought to turn pizzelles into snowflakes…only YOU! ❤️❄️❤️

  35. BamaCarol
    January 5, 2016 at 4:33 pm

The web site says the edges of these are red but yours look brownish. Is that the case? I just ordered 8 of the plates wanting to use them with my brown transferware. I hope they go with it or I might have to get red transferware too (note that I won’t give up the new white plates). Now how to hide these where my newly retired husband won’t see them come in!

    • January 5, 2016 at 4:41 pm

Hi BamaCarol, The edges of my plates are brown, so they should work with your transferware. Good luck hiding your new plates! :)

  36. January 5, 2016 at 8:03 pm

    Such a beautiful winter tablescape!

  37. January 6, 2016 at 7:36 pm

I truly love the textures of your table and the chateau cream dinnerware especially. I think it might be my favorite line that Pfaltzgraff has designed lately….love the edges and the impressions on the plates! Lovely winter table!

  38. January 7, 2016 at 11:05 am

Wow..that dinnerware is gorgeous…love the embossed pattern, and yes they do look like snowflakes….I love the pizzelles too!…Great idea for the snowflake pattern on them…I have my mother in law’s very old pizzelle iron (she was Italian)…..I have never used it…I think I need a trip to the attic to find it!
