A Garden Table Setting with Azaleas, Roses, and Snowballs

DSC_1020-002

I’m at the Table with Azaleas, Roses, and Snowballs~ Snowball Viburnum that is, in a celebration of spring flowers! Spring has in been in bloom for several weeks now, pollen has started to wane and it’s perfect weather to dine outdoors again!

Spring Blooms

I set a table that’s a mix of old and new that’s casual and comfortable for a garden setting with a quilted coverlet as a tablecloth. I pulled out my Great Aunt’s delicate Limoges china and hold my breath every time I use it. There were originally 12 place settings once upon a time with six of the fragile dinner plates remaining. The quilt is new and machine made and can go into the washing machine if needed without any fear of spills or damaging a family heirloom or delicate stitching.

I cut some viburnum and azalea blooms, along with white spring flowers from our laurel shrubs. I added them to some wet floral foam in a galvanized Flowers & Garden bucket for a celebration of spring and centerpiece for the table.

The hydrangea-like blooms start out green, changing over to cream and then white. It’s also ideal to enjoy as a cut flower.

This is such a beautiful, feminine and delicate place setting. I love all the sweet blossoms in the galvanized bucket also. Perfection! This post gave me such a feeling of peacefulness and tranquility. Thank you once again for sharing one of your incredible table settings!

Great combination and great photos! So pretty in pink. I had some frost nip on my hydrangeas (hoping the blooms aren’t affected), as well as my hostas & mountain laurel……every year is another surprise adventure as to what you’ll get in the garden. To compare our timing, my neighbor’s snowball viburnum blooms are just now green.

This is such a beautiful setting. I love everything. Azaleas are my husband’s favorite flower. We always look forward to seeing them in the spring. The table setting is beautiful. I think the silverware is especially eye catching. Thanks for sharing.

What a beautiful table that you’ve set with your Great Aunt’s china, and how appropriate to have it sitting on the quilt You’ve created a gorgeous scene, and dining outside right now is a spring delight among all the bloomers!

My mother and grandmothers both had snowball bushes. I never had one even though I am an avid gardener. Love the combination of flowers for your lovely tablescape. I would love to win your gardening giveaway….thank you for your beautiful pictures and display always.

I love your bloom upon bloom outdoor table Mary! Spring is such a celebration of warmer weather with things growing and sprouting and greening everywhere and you’ve captured it perfectly with this elegant yet cozy table. Your great Aunt’s Limoges china is perfect with that field of flowers, and snowballs are my absolute favorite. I know you’re enjoying being outside potting and puttering!

Where did you get Al’s flower pouch around here?

    • April 20, 2016 at 7:46 pm

I found them last year at Lowe’s but haven’t seen them yet this year. You can find them on Amazon.

  22. April 20, 2016 at 8:06 pm

How wonderful it must be to dine at this gorgeous table and feel as if you are dining in a garden itself and then you look around and realize that the gardens surround you too….next to the hydrangea…the snowball viburnum is my favorite! And lunching on Limoges has to be the ultimate! Love that wonderful bucket of things to start the celebration of Spring.

When you do your tablescapes outdoors they are always so beautiful! And this is one is another gorgeous one. Love the fact that the dishes are heirlooms.

  25. April 20, 2016 at 11:52 pm

Your lovely tablescape just sings out “Spring!” with layers of detail and memories. We have a small yard, so I cheat and purchase blossoms for inside displays and leave the azaleas, peonies, honeysuckle etc uncut outside.

Your spring table is just gorgeous, as is the setting. I don’t think I’d ever want to go back inside after the meal was over :). I’ve had the same laurel shrubs for years and have never once thought to add them to floral arrangements. Thanks for sharing that idea.

    Hi Mary!
As always, I find myself wishing I was one of your guests seated around the table, gazing at the lake and enjoying all your beautiful surroundings!
My favorite spring flowers are the Lady Banks Roses with it’s cascading blossoms of white surrounded by the brilliant pink flowers of the Formosa Azalea. 😊

  29. April 21, 2016 at 8:51 pm

The tablescape is lovely and heartwarming, and your photos are gorgeous.

  30. April 23, 2016 at 11:40 am

This is possibly one of my favorite posts! Because these are some of my favorite spring flowers! Love, love the snowball bush and mine is thriving. In fact, I may just have to duplicate your setting and arrangement. It really brought a smile to my face. But, my absolute favorite spring flower is the peony! And as I walked the garden this morning, they are full of buds. By the middle of next week I’ll have scrumptious peonies to add.

  31. April 24, 2016 at 8:42 am

Mary, Those dishes are so dainty! You are lucky to be the one who received them! I am intrigued by your laurel. Mountain Laurel is our state flower, with similar shiny leaves, but it does not work well as a cut flower, and I lost my bushes a few years ago after a rough winter. I don’t think we have your variety up here but I love it in combination with your azalea and snowballs! Linda

I hope I’m not too late to enter to win!! Sometimes it takes me a while to catch up on emails including your blog, but I always make time to read and enjoy your posts! I was the lucky recipient of a Havilland china pattern, delicate with flowers like yours! This post is an inspiration for me in ways to use that beautiful china. Thanks so much!
