It’s been a busy and fun week of planting and puttering around the Potting Shed for me.
While my shop days are behind me, but I was tickled to find a Potting Shed Garden Shop Sign sign for the back door of my Potting Shed at an antique mall last year. I had a friend tell me: “You can take the girl out of retail, but not retail out of the girl.” :)

According to the sign, I’m two months late opening up back up for business ;)
My backdoor of my Potting Shed was a $12 salvage find with a broken glass pane. Instead of replacing the glass, I added a board and painted it with chalkboard paint to “plant” with seasonal messages and inspiration. The exterior of the door has always been a little boring with the empty painted panel.
The wooden frame with the hardware cloth was headed for the trash pile at a thrift store when I rescued it a couple of years ago. I didn’t know what I would do with it, but I thought the wire holes would be handy for hanging tools.
As it turned out, the Potting Shed sign was a little small for the door but the hardware cloth frame was just the right size to fill the panel to hang on the back of my chalkboard door. The holes in the hardware cloth are ideal for hanging old garden tools and small pots using s-hooks and to fill in the space of the frame around the sign.
I added some grapevine to wind around the sign. . .
And I cut some wild honeysuckle vine, running rampant with fragrant blooms in the field next to my shed, to frame the sign.
It’s been a beautiful and HOT week here the temperatures in the low 90s yesterday. It’s cooler and overcast today, ideal for a little potting and planting.

Wow!! 90 degrees already. It has been very comfortable here in Ky. I have my yard just about how I want it. You know how it is though, run into Lowe’s for something and come out with more to plant :). Going to have a high of 59 degrees tomorrow. Might just stay in. Have a great weekend Mary!! xoxo

This might just be the cutest thing you’ve ever done Mary! And that’s saying A LOT! Your potting shed looks so happy proudly sporting it’s vintage sign/wreath on the door. It’s over the top adorable! 90 is way too hot for May, I hope the temps drop a little so you can enjoy more puttering and potting. Happy weekend,

Mary, Your shed looks so happy all painted and spiffed up for summer! That sign is perfect for you. I remember when you found it, and I love the way you created the wreath. It must smell heavenly with the honeysuckle!!! Honeysuckle and lilac are two amazing springtime scents and I wish they lasted all year. Did you ever pop the bit of “honey” nectar out of the bottom of the honeysuckle blossom and eat it when you were a kid (like a hummingbird!)? It’s perfect planting weather here — a bit rainy and cool. I hope your 90 degree weather doesn’t return too soon. Linda

My grandmother had a honeysuckle bush in her front yard that was huge. That smell always takes me back to my youth when she taught me how to ‘drink’ the honey from the flowers. Lovely post and beautiful shed.
I know honseysuckle is an invasive plant, but what a lovey invader! I used to love to be out with my driving ponies on a country lane here in Virginia and catch a whiff of that heady perfume–both the ponies and I would tilt our heads to catch the scent.
Love the sign and all you’ve done with the frame. Frost warning for us over the next couple of days, so planting has stalled a bit :-(
Your shed is amazing. I must say that neighboring field is a treasure trove of wonderful flowers and you know just the perfect way to use them. Everything is so beautiful.

Loved seening your honeysuckle…my grandmother had it growning behind her house & I can still remember the smell…and the bees that lovd it.
I sure hope that large, *POT* sign at the top isn’t visible from the road!! You might get some unsavory buyers looking to make a score. LOL

As always every post you put out is magazine worthy. So creative and amazingly beautiful. I really like that sign but with your added touches and décor … it becomes transformed and so sweet.
Love your potting shed sign and can imagine how fragrant the honeysuckle must be. There is honeysuckle in our neighborhood and I love the scent. 90 in May?? Oh dear! That is HOT! We had a beautiful sunny and 75 yesterday so I got all my pots planted. Today is rain all day. Your potting shed is so wonderful and I LOOOVE the sign on the door!

That is just too cute! Same kind of weather here, only about 10° cooler on each day. It was fall-like today! I’ve been getting a lot done in the garden, too, but so far only with dirt, mulch, potting soil, topsoil and grass seed. Still need to get my container flowers and plant them. I’m working in stages, hoping it slows down my enthusiasm to keep from buying too many plants. :) Happy weekend!
Mary, I just love the sign! My sweet husband announced this week that he is going to build a potting shed so I showed him yours and he loved it. He is extremely talented in whatever he does, but I don’t think he has the time for this project…we will see! Lots of honeysuckle around my home, and the smell is heavenly! Pam @ Everyday Living

Mary, your sign on the door of your / “our” (I say “our” because we all love her so dearly) potting shed is like a cherry on the top of a cupcake! The final piece to a perfect little building we all love and hold dear. I really like your vintage garden chair with the shell shaped back also. OKAY this isn’t fair, we had frost last night and another promised for tonight. You are in full bloom, and all set to go—I would have to take your sign and say open 5 months of the year, LOL.
