Memorial Day Celebration: Oh My Stars and Stripes!

DSC_3379-001

Memorial Day is a week away, the unofficial kick off to summer!

DSC_3509-001

A day to wave the flag, salute the stars and stripes, and celebrate the Red, White and Blue!

DSC_3377-001

In anticipation, I pulled out the red, white & blue for a little tabletop fun in the Potting Shed.

DSC_3614-001

Ball jars are filled with a red, white and blooming combination of Endless Summer Hydrangeas, Queen Anne’s Lace, and the red foliage of Lorapetalum for a patriotic bouquet.

DSC_3520-001

Star and stripes are the guests of honor, with melamine plates layered over embossed white plates, beaded spray napkin rings, and broad stripes and bright stars napkins.

Help yourself to American Flag Tootsie Rolls and sparklers for a stars and stripes salute. . .

Sunwashed red, blue and white stripes on a jute table runner provide a foundation for the table with Pfaltzgraff American Bead flatware.

You can make a quick and easy party cup for your Memorial Day BBQ or party!

DSC_3496-001

A candlestick from Dollar Tree provides a stem and elevates the fun for Oh My Stars cups from Pier 1.  Like with my Witches’ Brew Cups, I used E6000 (or use a similar silicone adhesive) to glue the cup to the candlestick, allowing the glue to cure 24 hours. Add some stars and stripes straws for patriotic sipping!

Patriotic paper fans and a banner are hanging in celebration. . .

A Land of the Free and Home of the Brave galvanized sign is proudly hailing some of what’s most beautiful about the USA.

For an easy sweet ending for your Memorial Day celebration, dress up your grocery store cupcakes with some red, white and blue!

DSC_3610-001

Add red, white, and blue nonpareils, stars and stripes liners, Americana pinwheel picks and a sparkler.

Light and serve!

DSC_3650-001

Of course Memorial Day has much more significance than celebrating the arrival of summer with BBQs and cupcakes. . .  it commemorates U.S. soldiers who died while in military service.

DSC_3607-001

A day to recognize, reflect, and remember how fortunate we are to live in freedom.

Great tablescaping, Mary. Love that lorapetalum – both vases of flowers are perfect. And the cupcake with lit sparkler are striking in the photo. Have a great week.

Awww so red, white and blue cute, dear Mary! I need to buy some of that glue that you use, as I know,it would come in handy. Your potting shed looks all festively decked out to begin summer celebrations.

Very creative. I am in love with your potting shed.
At Christmas I used those same candlesticks and glue to make goblets with their blue glasses.

Oh my goodness….MARY!!!! You’ve done it yet again…this display is SPECTACULAR! You have more fun playing with your dishes than anyone I know. Such wonderful inspiration & such beautiful floral combinations. Hats off to you & the Red, White & Blue!!!!!

Three cheers for the red, white and blue, and for you too, Mary! I love it all!!! The jute runner caught my eye right away and one is now winging its way to CT! A cupcake with loads of frosting can only be improved by a sparkler so I’ll take one of those too. Our hydrangea and Queen Anne’s Lace are not blooming yet, but they’ll be ready for me to copy you for our July 4th picnic, so thank you for the inspiration! Linda

I love your Red, White and Blue! My home is all Americana, even my sofa and chair. I am going crazy trying to find the Tootsie Rolls in the Flag paper; where did you buy them?

    • May 26, 2016 at 10:00 am

Hi Janice! I found them at Dollar Tree about a month ago. If they’re out of stock, check Oriental Trading or Amazon.
