Is it hot and humid where you are? It’s sweltering here with heat index in the triple digits. To escape the heat, you’re invited to join me for a little retail therapy and some “fresh picked vintage” at one of the largest antique malls in the Southeast.
The Depot at Gibson Mill is in Concord, NC. This former historic textile mill was converted into an antique mall with more than 600 dealers and 88,000 square feet to shop~ be sure to wear some comfy shoes.
I’ve made a several visits in the past month with all things garden in mind. . .
While it’s way too hot to plant flowers, it’s never too hot to plant some garden goodies inside the Potting Shed.
If you have a chance to visit, don’t make the mistake that I did and think that European watering can or cast iron architectural fragment will still be waiting on you to return for it next time.
Ladders, columns, and old shutters always catch my eye. . .
As well as anything green. . .
Vintage nesting boxes and chicken feeders. . .
Wonderful whites. . .
Chippy. . .
Lacy. . .
Ironstone and transferware.
Vintage garden tools and signs. . .
Fun signs. . .
Picnic baskets. . .
Tartan. . .
Patriotic. . .
Lady Liberty with peony blooms. . .
Red, White & Blue. . .
Stars & Stripes. . .
And the candidate I’m most likely to cast my ballot for in November. ;)
This dealer’s booth is full of temptation for me.
Through her business card I found her website and how she stenciled her pieces here.
I *heart* her stenciled hog feeder and think it would be fun to hold potting soil!
If you’re in the market for some fresh-picked vintage or antiquing, I recommend a visit! Plan on a good three hours. There is even a cafe if you need sustenance during your retail therapy. ;)
Hope you’re finding ways to escape the heat where you are!
Looks like a very fun place to shop!!! And yes it is hot where I am too. In the 90’s all weekend. I just run out and water plants and run back inside!! Have a great weekend and stay cool.xoxo
My eyes were just dancing all over, trying to take this all in…what a FUN place to explore, Mary! Thanks for taking us along. I giggled at the thought of needing “sustenance during your retail therapy”
Mary, now that is the best way I know to escape the heat! What wonderful and interesting “stuff”! I am afraid that place would do serious damage to my credit card! Happy weekend!
Thanks for taking me along through your pictures, Mary. What an awesome place for retail therapy. There’s something there for everyone, and I’d be getting a little sustenance in the cafe! Hopefully we’ll see what caught your eye to bring home from this shopping visit.
That’s a WOW place!! Love it all…I particularly like that wheelbarrow. You are partial to wheels and I’m into the wheelbarrows..it is humid here but not as bad as it can get in the South..but when you have gardening, it doesn’t get done by itself..so off I go to prune and deadhead!! Have a wonderful day and thanks for the trip!! 🌻🌻🌻
Thank you, thank you….I didn’t know about this place….Just was introduced to Clines this week and Loved it as I am sure I will this mall too….You are full of creativity, ideas and information!

What a fabulous place to shop!!! It would be worth a road trip from Maine in October when you cool down!! Come up to Maine where our temps are in the 70’s June through October!! It is heavenly! Thank you for such a great post.
OMG I wanna go there!!! I love that little wheelbarrow. Been looking for one for over two years. Too bad I’d have to drive 750 miles to get it :-( What a lovely shop. Thanks for taking us along! PS here in MI it’s been warm but warm for us is in the 80’s with a nice breeze off the big lake. Heaven!
Mary, thanks for sharing your shopping tour with us. I saw several, several things I would love to have. I’m like you. I love green. I spied that green table. I love it along with the green potting shed sign. We are having heat index temperatures in the triple digits here in Oklahoma, too. It’s crazy. It is like August here. Take care and have a great weekend!!!
You must feel like you’re in Mary Heaven when you shop there! I can’t wait to see what you came home with, and how do you ever choose??? You’re going to need a bigger potting shed :)

Hi Mary, We have been mostly in the 80s but the heat is supposed to be coming now. I think it might be worth braving your temps for a trip to this amazing place! So many goodies! I spied that park bench and some pottery, a cement frog, a tartan picnic basket, and I’m trying to figure out what the blue horseshoe thing is! Thank you for the trip. We are all so excited to see what you brought home and what you will do with it!! Linda
It was 114 here so we drove to San Diego for the day. Spent it in Ocean Beach which is a throw back to the 60s and 70s. They have several antique stores there. Found an adorable three-drawer green chest for my bedroom that will hold my TV and DVDs. Just what I was looking for and it was only in the 70s at the beach. Stopped for lunch at a great place called The Joint. Retail therapy is the best.
One word…SWOON!! Thank you for sharing! And, agree…Mom for President! Have a wonderful day. You sure made mine! Heat index is triple digits here as well.
Holy cow! Road trip! The owners of our antique mall shop there when they travel back from their place in Oak Island. Your pictures do it way more justice than the store’s own FB page! The green chippy stool, shutter and all that garden stuff – oh my!
I love miniatures and the little green cabinet sitting on the shelves of the larger green cabinet in the next to last picture would have gone home with me!
I want, I want, I just want to make a trip to Concord. In Beaufort, NC this weekend visiting a friend and enjoying their Old Homes and Gardens Tour. If you love old houses and beautiful gardens if’s a must. Thanks again Mary for bringing us along.
Don’t know about the rest of you but I have shopped till I dropped! Don’t have anything like this place in my neck of the woods – makes me want to take a road trip to NC – which is a long way from CO for antique shopping! Not a page in this post that didn’t have something I could find a use for – ha ha ha
Whew, Yes it was Hot here yesterday at 98 degrees. Today not as hot. Yes, Retail Therepy is the best thing to do when it is this hot! Thanks for reminding me I need to go back to this mall. I have not been in awhile and when I was going they had awesome stuff! Can’t wait to see what you purchased for your Beautiful Potting Shed!
well, i would like ONE of everything I see here…and it’s so hot and humid here, we can barely stand it..how….HOW are we gonna get thru July and August…and it’s still VERY hot here in West Texas in Sept….
That would be a wonderful place to spend some time my next time to N.C. , definitely on the”Bucket
List” !!! It actually is lovely here, we waited so long for this weather everyone seems to enjoy it !! And to think the year is already HALF over , :( summer goes sooooo fast !!
Thanks for sharing this great place , and what did you bring home with you !!?!?!?
This is my favorite antique mall ever, and I go every chance I get. I wish that I lived closer as I would surely have a booth there. This place is amazing!
We were just there last weekend!!! Love that place— and like you, I love anything green and related to the garden!!! It is such a wonderful place for inspiration!!! I only was able to cover three out of the four rooms that day—and that still took me 3 hours! It is one of the best “malls” we have visited in N>C>!!! We live on the coast, but it is always worth the trip!!!! You need a booth there, your style and décor would fit right in!!! Have a great summer!!!
What a neat store and boy oh boy would I love to go and visit in person! Saw lots that would be coming home with me. If I’m ever in NC I would stop in for sure! Our weather has been great – need a good shower though. We are 11/2″ below our norm for rain. Weather forecast looks great for our trip to Houghton Lake, we leave tomorrow for a week there ~can’t wait. They have some good antique stores up there, so maybe I’ll get lucky! Can’t wait to see what you purchased.
Thank you for posting the antique mall today, Mary! While I was reading the post and looking at the pictures, I spotted a half green wooden table that looks like the one my grandmother gave to me. When moving from Ohio to Florida, we lost (or got stolen) many things on the moving van including this antique table. I showed the picture to my husband and he thinks it’s the one. If I look closely, I can see the original brown stain under the green paint. I wish I could find the other half. The two pieces join together by a hook on both sides. We decided to pack up and take a trip in the RV to NC to check this out. Wish me lock! I’m praying it will still be there!
This post not only delighted my senses, as yours always do, but kicked my sleuthing skills into gear! Using a magnifying glass to view the shop name on the sales tag, I tracked down the Potting Shed sign by calling the Depot.(yes, from Wheaton, IL, because I am OBSESSED with this adorable sign!)
I have been searching for one in vain since you first posted yours. Sadly, all my effort may lead to disappointment once again, as the sign was put on hold this morning for someone else who called in! I am crossing my fingers that it won’t sell, and may still be mine!! You should receive a lot of commissions from the items that are purchased as a result of your gorgeous photography and amazing display skills!
Please tell us what you got! I would need a LARGE wallet to go there, I saw so many things I loved! What a great place! Thanks for sharing it. It is 88 here right now and temps are to stay there for the week. I like it a BIT cooler but wil NOT complain. Have a beautiful week!
That’s it; I’m moving to North Carolina. What an awesome place!! I enjoyed this so much, Mary. The other day, I saw a vintage wooden sign that I thought said Mary Gardening, and I grabbed it, thinking I’d send to you; but when I looked closer, the “a” and “r” were just worn. The sign read: Merry Gardening. Hope you and your loved ones have a wonderful 4th!
This is absolutely one of my favorite places to shop, and get inspired. We live almost 2 hours away, and it is worth the drive every time. They also have a rewards program. The only negative is a severe lack of shopping carts. I have waited an hour to get a cart on the weekend.Once you have a cart, you are in business. They even have a good little sandwich shop, so you can stay all day–and you’ll certainly want to!
I went to the Gibson mill for the first time this past Spring & loved it! we had lunch there in the cafe and spent the better part of the day shopping. it is a great spot!
You are killing me here!!! Please tell me that fabulous green cupboard at the end of your posts came home with you. So much eye candy in this post!!!
Looks like a very fun place to shop!!! And yes it is hot where I am too. In the 90’s all weekend. I just run out and water plants and run back inside!! Have a great weekend and stay cool.xoxo
Oh my! You are so lucky to live near this Awsome tempting place to browes and shop!😱
Love that place!
I think I’ll hit the road to NC!
My eyes were just dancing all over, trying to take this all in…what a FUN place to explore, Mary! Thanks for taking us along. I giggled at the thought of needing “sustenance during your retail therapy”
Wow!! I would love to check that place out. Thanks for the awesome pictures ❤️
