If you’re a dog owner, every day is a paws for celebration . . .
and August 26th is National Dog Day.
National Dog Day was founded in 2004 by Pet & Family Lifestyle Expert and Animal Advocate, Colleen Paige. It’s celebrated August 26th every year to encourage dog ownership of all breeds, mixed and pure, and embraces the opportunity for all dogs to live a happy, safe and “abuse-free life”.
The National Dog Day Foundation supports all breeds and varieties of dogs and discourages purchasing from unethical backyard breeders and puppy mills; instead, supporting reputable breeders or adopting from rescue homes.
The goal of the National Dog Day Foundation is to rescue 10,000 dogs each year.
Chloe and Gracie came to us from the same breeder 10 years ago. We refer to Chloe as our “rescue” dog, since she’s so high maintenance chances are another family would have traded her in for a less neurotic dog a long time ago.
If you have a neurotic dog, I recommend trying ThunderShirt. . .
and wine helps too :)
Celebrate National Dog Day by taking your dog for a ride. . .
Or with a treat. . .
Copycat Frosty Paws,
Easy Frozen Dog Treats that you can make in a blender!
Only 4 ingredients and your pup will lap them up!

Freekibble.com was launched in 2008, as the vision of then 11 year-old, Mimi Ausland. Mimi wanted to feed the hungry dogs and cats at her local shelter. “There are 10’s of thousands of dogs and cats in animal shelters across the country, all needing to be fed a good meal.” With this goal in mind, Freekibble was created.
Today, the Freekibble Network reaches over 500,000 passionate pet-lovers. This loyal community has helped feed over 14 million meals to homeless dogs and cats in shelters, rescues and food-banks across the country.

What a beautiful post. The dogs are so sweet and pretty, but the content of this message is so important.I always enjoy your posts so much.
Giving mine an extra hug and a treat today. Always a great post when the dogs are included!
Everyday is National Dog Day around here!! My pets through the years have been rescue dogs and I’ve yet to be disappointed. My favorite picture of Gracie and Chloe is the race down the dock so they can go boating! Give them extra pats from me for this, their holiday.
Oh my Mary, I just finished watching “So God Made a Dog”. What a touching and loving video! Happy National Dog day to Chloe and Gracie who give you so much unconditional love and laughter. Thank you for sharing their antics and happy lives with all of us. They never fail to put a smile on my face.
What a great post! Mine just happens to go in for his grooming today or rather I call it his spa day!!
They are just one of Gods blessings.

What sweet pictures of your babies. I feel like we rescued Bailey. I thought I was buying from a good breeder, but when I arrived she was with many other dogs in a shed in the backyard. It’s a good thing we love her so because in the past two weeks she had cost us a fortune for some regular vaccines and her skin issues.
Our pets “kids” do give us unconditional love. They are our children. The video was very touching! Enjoy your day and again, thanks for sharing.
How precious are your pooches! I love my dog so much! I am even sitting with the granddog this weekend, never a dull moment with a lap dog(mine),and a german shepard that thinks she is one too!! love it!
What a darling, funny post…those poochies just make me smile every time I see them & I’m not a ‘dog person’, but I love yours!
I must tell my sister…a BIG DOG lover, about this special day. She probably knows already.
I clicked on your links & fed some cats, too. I’d had a cat all my life until my DD married a guy who was allergic!
There’s a reason that DOG and GOD are spelled the way they are…don’t you think He knew?
Mary, I made it only half way through the video before the tears were pouring down. I was looking at our dog photos yesterday…this house is beginning to feel very empty and in need of some fur balls on the floor…your little white pups are so sweet and cute whether flying along or having a moment of rest. Hug them for me!!! Thanks for this adorable and touching post! Linda
Thank you Mary. I needed that today.
This post warms my heart this am, thank you Mary, have a blesses day! <3
Your blogs are always the best! Chloe and Gracie are precious. Our dog is also very high maintenance. Thanks for the dog treat recipe.
Oh goodness Mary, I’m laughing and crying and smiling and sniffling all at the same time, and clicking and clicking on the Freekibble Network…the photo of your husband and the smiling dog face it the best ever! So much cuteness, love and happiness! Thank you for sharing the important message about shelter dogs. Happy Dog Day to Chloe & Gracie 🐾 🐾

Mary, I worked on getting a post created before leaving town, but didn’t get it finished. Guess I’ll save it for next year. So happy to read yours. I knew you would post something for National Dog Day. Chloe and Gracie are so adorable in each photo. Hugs and puppy kisses for me and Miss Sadie. Happy National Dog Day!
Chloe and Gracie have wonderful lives…and they are adorable! Pam @ Everyday Living
You are very lucky to have those two cute pups…our little Tootsie crossed over the rainbow bridge 4 years ago after 16 years of loyalty and love on both sides…if no one is glad to see you, the dog always is!!! Someday we’ll have another but right now we are still trying to heal the hole left in our hearts!!! Those two little scamps are just adorable and they are very lucky too!! Happy National Dog Day to all!!! ❤️🐩🐕❤️
Hi Mary! Happy National Dog Day! Our Bearded Collie, Spencer is our great joy! Spencer is neurotic, too, so the Thundershirt has been a lifesaver for him. Thanks for the video.

Mary – the fur-babies are just darling!! Wish I could hold them. Our Buddy is a Cocker spaniel / Black Lab mix and was a drop off. Can’t imagine why anyone would not want him, he is such a good doggie and brings so much joy to us. We have had him six years now and the vet figured he was about a year old when we found him. Congratulations on your Halloween article – so proud and happy for you! Also, wanted you to know, my almost 90 year old mom passed on August 18, but before her heart attack we still had plans to do our annual canning of tomatoes and peaches. I still love my beautiful blue Ball canning jars I won in your contest and use them for various things. Maybe I can convince my sister to help me this year. Your blog is a real joy and source of inspiration to me and I’m sure it will help me this fall as I work through my grief.
Hi Cyndi, I hope you have a chance to can with your sister. Can you believe I’ve never canned? I love my jars but only used them for flowers. I’m so sorry to hear about your mom. My dear MIL passed away August 20th, she was 85 and has been struggling since her fall last Thanksgiving. We are heartbroken and were over lovin’ on her little dogs today. Puppy love is great therapy.
Didn’t get on here yesterday but Shortie (our beagle/corgi) celebrated National Dog Day yesterday. She got extra treats. Give a hug to your precious fur babies–they are darling. I did click on the FreeKibble site. We have had Shortie for 12 years and we adopted her from our local SPCA. Our previous dog, Ginger (part American Eskimo/fox terrier) passed away at 16 years old. We got Ginger from someone whose child was allergic to Ginger’s fur. We were lucky to have had Ginger for 10 years. God bless our dogs and other animals.
Thank you Mary. I am SO sorry to hear of your loss. She came to my mind the other day as I knew she was about the same age as my sweet mom and wondered how she was doing. I know it’s VERY HARD and will say prayers for you and your husband. God bless. (Hugs to you).
Thanks for sharing this video! You are right…sniff, sniff
Fur babies are the Best!!! Love my animals! Yes, please adopt and/or help No Kill Animal Shelters
Our little Bichon, Irving White Lightening is a rescue dog – from a friend who could no longer care for this high maintenance guy, alas the Thunder Coat does not work -but hiding under the bed helps when the scary wind blows, does. He fills our lives with laughter and joy and he reminds us everyday of just what is so important!
Aug. 26 is also my birthday! I had a wonderful bday WEEKEND, and posted about it too:) Your dogs ALWAYS make me smile and miss our sweet Nettie, who we had for 17 1/2 years. I wish I could still spoil her:) Watched the beautiful video.
