Weekend Waterview and Labor Day Forecast

Happy Labor Day Weekend!

We’re enjoying some cooler temperatures this morning (62 degrees!) and lower humidity this weekend, with highs in the 80s instead of 90s and sunny skies after Hermine passed through.

The perfect temperature to enjoy your coffee on the dock or porch or and open the windows.

We’re looking forward to a little boating time today and tomorrow and catch up on a few gardening chores with cooler temperatures. We’re down 7 inches in rainfall for the year and were hoping Hermine was going to bring us rain without any damaging winds or flooding, but she went east of us and we barely saw a half an inch of rain between Thursday and Friday.

If you’re in the mood for picnicking and your weather cooperates

join me for a {Less} Labor Day Picnic!

With a Layered Cornbread-and-Turkey Salad, a make-ahead recipe that’s a crowd pleaser, and ideal for a potluck or picnic.

And Peach-and-Blueberry Parfait~ dessert in a jar with very little labor!

Cheeseburger Bloody Mary Skewer

Or maybe a cheeseburger skewer as a garnish for your Bloody Mary?! Assemble your skewer with a mini cheeseburger, and the fixings of your choice: pickle, lettuce, bacon and tomato.

I made a mini buns for cheeseburger skewers from leftover slider buns. I didn’t have a cookie cutter small enough so I used a jigger to cut and punch out a mini bun. If you use a regular size hamburger bun you could get probably two mini buns out of it.

What are your plans for Labor Day?

Thank you for the lovely Labor Day Post! Like you, we are so dry here in Maine , and the high pressure system is keeping the rain from Hermine away from us too.

Holy cow! That BM with skewer would be all I’d need for a day like today – perfect! Similar weather here, but I’m acting like I’m still on vacation and ignoring the garden (and I can see a tall, poison ivy vine in one bed). Have a good time on the water!

I’m glad you didn’t have any negative impact from Hermine, but I know you were disappointed not to get much rain…your temps sound delightful, and perfect for your picnic concoctions! Love the mini slider idea, and I’m crazy over your cute M mug! Have fun!

No plans here for Labor Day, but I’d love to be sitting dock side at your beautiful lake. Looking out to that water, smooth as glass, with the reflection of the clouds is most relaxing.
Have a wonderful Sunday and Labor Day. Your plans sounds perfect.

What fun ideas, and gorgeous photos. We are planning a quiet weekend – one daughter’s family is visiting out of town family, the other daughter is in the process of finishing up a move, so we have no family plans – but a nice trip to the beach with a picnic for us, a ride in the country down winding, quiet roads and perhaps a few yard sales – easy and fun – and relaxing.

Your pictures are the BEST and I love all your recipes. Happy Labor Day, Mary, your day sounds like it will be perfectly enjoyable on the lake. I just finished decorating our front porch for autumn, even though the temps will still be hot here this week. Later we are going to visit my husband’s step-mother and take her out to dinner to celebrate her 94 th birthday! You would never guess her age as she is still so vivacious.

    Mary, Mary Mary,
You always know how to put a smile on my face!
We r in Corneius again, looking for some place to spend our remaining days on this
planet, not that either one of us is ready to cash in yet!
U have made me fall in love with a place I didn’t even know existed!! 🕊🐶
I look forward to lazy days on the lake and being thankful for The glory God has given us!
A very happy and safe holiday weekend to you and yours!!

Enjoying the cooler tempts…very happy your storms didn’t materialize and you got very little rain!!! I’m sitting on my screened in porch..writing recipes and ignoring the mountain of tomatoes and potatoes that I have to do something with..watching the hummers battling and the finches eating every seed in sight!!! It feels and sounds like a Fall day and don’t we love it!!!❤️No Labor today!!! ❤️🇺🇸🍁

Thank you Mary for sharing the beautiful photos of the lake. Enjoy your boating outing along with the girls. Our area in the Fredericksburg area didn’t get any rain. At least we got the cooler temperatures.

Mary, we were hoping for some good rainfall, too and missed it completely. We are so dry after getting so much rain most of August. After just a few days of no rain our yard is looking rather parched. Have fun boating!

  15. September 4, 2016 at 9:32 pm

I am so happy it is cooling off for you AND that Hermine missed you!! It missed us too, even though we desperately need rain! I am sick of watering:) Our temps sound the same as yours and I am loving it! Hope you had a beautiful cruise!!!

Nice pics Mary! Everyone was over yesterday so Labor Day will be a ‘free’ day for me to do whatever I’d like… I’m excited! Happy Boating:@)
