Maddie and Zoe were the best therapy for my mother-in-law after my father-in-law passed away.
Perfectly sized at 4 and 8 lbs, to sit on her lap and keep her company.
We kept them for a week when my mother-in-law was in the hospital at Thanksgiving last year.
Chloe and Gracie are old ladies who had to learn to share, with a then very energetic 4-month old Zoe, and 2-year old Maddie, both Maltipoos.
It was double the fun and double the chaos that week.
My mother-in-law, Betty, passed away in August.
Everyone in the family is in need of some white dog therapy.
Betty and I had a lot in common.
We shared a love of pontoon rides and chair sitting. . .
Gardening and flowers. . .
French Fries with Chardonnay . . .
White dogs and her son.
We are thankful for my sisters-in-law, caregiver and friend Brenda, and Hospice & Palliative Care of Lake Norman, for making it possible for Betty to stay at home.
We have sooooo much to learn from dogs. Their unconditional love has helped many humans to cross the bridge to eternity.
May God’s peace fill you like the glow of a golden sunset.
I’m so sorry for the loss of your mother-in-law. I can truly see how those sweet, precious pups got her through her hardest days. All four of the pups are just so precious and always brighten my day when I get the wonderful chance to see them on your blog. My prayers are with you!
I’m so sorry about your mother-in-law. I think dogs are the most wonderful therapy! Maddie and Zoe have found a wonderful new home with you and their “cousins”. I can’t imagine how long it must have taken to get that wonderful shot of the 4 of them! 😃
Condolences to you and your family. May sweet memories of Betty sustain you. Thank you for sharing these pictures and your thoughts. All four fur babies are precious.
I am so sorry about the loss of your Mother in Law. Her doggies are beautiful!!! They make a wonderful addition to your family! Thank you for the great pictures Mary! Our Bichon Chester is so much part of our family too. He is being groomed as I write this and we are off to Boothbay Harbor for the weekend with Chester of course.
Oh what a wonderful plus to have a loving relationship with a mother in law. I’m sorry for your loss. I remember earlier posts with mentions of Betty and thinking she must be very special, and you too for loving her.
The dogs are cutest personified.
I’m so sorry to hear this news. I know this pain. Sounds as though you had a sweet and meaningful relationship. What a blessing. Precious pooches can be such a healing at times like these. These four can’t help but make you smile. My sympathy to you and your family.
Aw Mary, I’m so very sad and sorry for your loss….
Will the little ones continue to stay with Chole and Gracie?
I’m sure Betty is looking down smiling at the little white balls of fur!
I was worried about u when I hadn’t seen many posts these last few weeks.
My husband and I were on your beautiful lake on Saturday on the lake tour, it was so
beautiful! I looked for you with every pontoon boat that we passed or all the ones that
passed us!! I knew I’d be able to spot u if I saw Clohe and Gracie!!!
Time will heal your broken hearts, I know you’ll find peace with the beautiful
memories you have of your inlaws.
Gods blessings to you and your husband.
Fondly,
Jackie Carney
Mary, my deepest sympathies are with you and your husband for the loss of your mother-in-law. I can just imagine how those sweet fur balls were such a comfort and blessing to her. But Betty is surely at peace knowing that they and her son are in such good care with you! Hugs and prayers!
So sorry for your family’s loss. Having those beautiful babies helps everyome feel better, I know. You are so lucky to have had so much time with your sweet mother in law. Bless you all.
I am so sorry for your loss but knowing that she is in a better place helps – the dogs are precious and I agree with the others, they are blessed to have your family to call home.
You do a great job in letting all of us see the beauty you have in every aspect of your home through the wonderful pictures you take – they are always outstanding.
My prayers are with you and your family.
What a blessing this post is! As a hospice social worker for more than 13 years, I am grateful to hear of the benefit and comfort that hospice teams have provided to folks around the world. As a former Maltese mommy (we had to put my baby down three years ago), I can intimately relate to the comfort that your babies have provided to your family. I wish for you all to have peace and comfort.
I am so sorry Mary. Loss like that is understood but hard to accept. Will be sending you positive mojo and hoping that those babies are getting to snuggle daily with Chloe and Gracie. And YOU!
Mary, I’m so sorry to hear this news. I remember you mentioning Betty in various posts, using her beautiful dishes or caring for her beloved pups. It sounds like she had a long life surrounded by loved ones and will be fondly remembered. Please know that you and your hubby are in our thoughts and prayers, and I hope that your happy memories will give you some comfort as you grieve. Linda
The loss of a loved one is hard, but knowing that she is still watching over your husband and you and the fur babies is comforting. I had to have my red Labrador of 9 years put down on July 28th because of Hip-dysphasia. It’s a comfort to see the happiness and love other fur babies are giving and receiving like my fur baby gave me. So very, very sorry for your loss.
So sorry to hear about your loss. You were so lucky to have such a special lady in your life.
May the love and kisses from all your fur babies carry you through this difficult time.
I have been following your blog for sometime now…I look SO forward to your posts on decor & recipes! You are very talented!!!
Mary, my sincere sympathy at this profound loss. My heart goes out to you and your husband and these sweet fluffy, white girls. It’s so difficult to say the final goodbye. I recall that you shared Betty’s beautiful things on various tables through the years. I know you and your family will greatly miss this lady. Will Maddie and Zoe now live with you? Their little faces are so dear. Thinking of you and sending hugs of comfort.
I am so very sorry to hear your sweet Captain’s Mother passed away! I know only too well, how hard it is to lose a loved one, no matter what age.
One of the first things my sweet little Ms. C. said to me after Ern died was “Nana, you should get a dog!” LOL
Smart kid, that one.
Hugs to all of you. {{{HUGS}}}
So sorry for your loss! It doesn’t matter how prepared you are, there is something about being “alone” in the world when parents pass. Cuddle up with those babies and know that she’s smiling down on you.
So sorry to read about Betty. She sounds like a very special person. The doggies will surely be missing her as well. Thank you for helping them through this. I will pray for your family to have God heal your hearts.
Mary, from your loving post, I know that Betty had a well-lived life and will be very missed by all who knew and loved her. You and your husband have my heartfelt condolences and I am so glad that you have white dog therapy at this sad time.
Very sorry for your loss! The pups are all so precious and I suspect they eased both your pain and your Mother-in-Law’s during her last days here. I saw a quote the other day (author unknown) and it said “Animals are the only beings on the planet that will never break your heart until their heart stops beating” and it is so true, especially with dogs. They supply love and laughter when we need it the most.
All those pups are so very precious. So very sorry for your loss. This was a beautiful tribute to Betty who I know will live forever in your heart (This post has me crying like a baby as it was so beautiful)
Oh Mary, I am so very sorry for the loss of your dear Betty. I am still crying from the tribute you gave her with your loving words, and especially the one on the love you shared of her son and of pups. Love and hugs are sent to you.
Dear Mary, I’m all teary-eyed, just reading your words and seeing the photos. What a cute gang of pups. They couldn’t have a more loving home. My heart goes out to you and your husband. I agree about dog therapy! Jazzy and my mom are here for a month, and I can already feel my heart lift (Jazzy is a white and black Shitzu, a bit elderly, but spry.) Sending sweet thoughts in your direction. xx00
So very sorry for the loss of your mother-in-law. I am sure having her beloved puppies around her in her last days, along with family and excellent caregivers was of great comfort to her. Your blog is my very favorite and I thank you for sharing your wonderful times with all of us.
I am so sorry for your loss. It sounds as though you had a special mother in law! Hugs and prayers go out to you and the family. I always enjoy when you share pictures of the pups!
My sympathies on the loss of a special member of your family. I know the pups added joy and laughter to Betty’s life as she did to yours. I cannot have dogs at home, but when I need a bit of pup loving, I can visit my friend and her house full of Westies. Nothing’s better than a pack of white dogs vying for pets and rubs.
I am so sorry to hear of the passing of your beloved mother in law, Betty. My thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family for your tremendous loss…It was so wonderful for you to have such a loving relationship with Betty. Such a great gift. Yes, dog therapy is the best.

So sorry for your loss, Mary. Prayers for you and your husband. Those four adorable fur babies will certainly give you both the white therapy, and the comfort you may need at this difficult time.
