I’m at the table with blooming pumpkins in a celebration of fall!
Flowers and pumpkins are two of my favorite things and I love to combine the two for a seasonal centerpiece for a fall or Thanksgiving table!
I discovered a shortcut last year for making a pumpkin centerpiece, adding a piece of wet floral foam on top of your pumpkin, rather than it cutting your pumpkin to make a vase for your flowers.
If your pumpkin has a short stem, you can use the stem to anchor the wet floral foam in place. If your pumpkin is stemless, you can use some waterproof floral tape to secure the foam to the pumpkin. You can see how I used the floral tape, here. Wet foam and tape are available on the floral aisle at the craft store.
This is a real time saver and allows you to enjoy your pumpkin again after your flowers fade.
I foraged for my flowers for the pumpkin using foliage and blooms from the garden with the exception of the green hypericum berries that were left from a bunch of flowers from last week’s table. My Cinderella pumpkin is blooming with a combination of Limelight hydrangeas that have acquired their fall patina, Loropetalum with its purple tinted foliage and Kaleidoscope Abelia with blush pink-tinted tips.
I used the same method for the mini tiger striped pumpkins, cutting little square blocks of foam and placing the foam on the stems of the pumpkins. If you’ve ever cut these little tiger-striped pumpkins for serving soup or for mini vases, you know how hazardous trying to cut through the hard skin and flesh can be, so skipping this step saves time, prevents accidents, and extends the life of your mini pumpkins.
I tucked some maple leaves in the centerpiece among the hydrangeas and berries that are beginning to show their vibrant crimson color. A bunch of $4 mums from the grocery store were added to the hydrangeas and foliage of the mini pumpkins at each place setting.
You can see the trees in the background are just starting acquire an autumn glow. Our leaves peak around the first to second week of November.
A pumpkin harvest tablecloth from HomeGoods (Cynthia Rowley) provides a foundation for the table and white dishes with an embossed fruit and floral relief (Mikasa English Countryside) are serving up these mini pumpkins.
Tree slice chargers and bone handled flatware add an organic and natural accent for fall and to pair with the pumpkins.
Amber stemware provides a golden autumn glow with curved bell-shaped goblets to pair with the ribs in the pumpkins.
Pumpkin napkin rings were purchased on sale last year at the end of the season from Williams-Sonoma. They offer the same napkin rings in a copper finish this year.
We enjoyed some beautiful, crisp fall weather over the weekend. Hope you’re enjoying some fall weather and foliage where you are!

Those flower arrangements are just so pretty! Love the floral foam tip; I’ll be using it for my Thanksgiving centerpiece. Isn’t it great that we have another full month of pumpkins and gourds?!
Very inviting Autumn tablescape! Love the pumpkin floral arrangements. Everything flows together; all the little colorful touches add up to make this a beautiful table arrangement!
Thanks for the wet floral foam tip! I like it better than cutting the pumpkin….so much easier! Your table is gorgeous, and I do love all the blooming pumpkins!
Such a great way to make pumpkin flower vases without cutting the pumpkin….I have some glass pumpkins that I could do this with…..GREAT idea…..thank you….As always, gorgeous and so creative!
Love your tip on making the blooming pumpkins. I must give it a try. Beautiful table, love the stemware and plates and they look so pretty on your gorgeous pumpkin tablecloth.
Mary, I think this idea for pumpkins is pure genius and you do the arrangements so well! Those minis are so difficult to cut and the large ones spoil quickly indoors after they are cut. Your hydrangea blossoms have turned so beautifully! The entire table is so inviting with the warm colors and gorgeous florals, and those dishes are one of my favorite white patterns. I never thought to use them in the fall but now I will. I did notice your trees starting to turn. Ours have turned suddenly in some places and others are still green! I would love to sit at your pretty table with a soft throw and glass of wine, looking at all this beauty. Linda
What a perfect way to honor the colors of fall! A perfect table. I appreciate your tips on making the flowering pumpkin centerpieces. I am going to try this idea. Many thanks for sharing!! Rosie @ The Magic Hutch
I have never seen a more beautiful Fall tablescape- you have outdone yourself!! Every single item is perfect, divine and gorgeous. I have that same tablecloth from HomeGoods. I would love to have that flatware, it is awesome. I love your new way to make flower pots with the pumpkins, that is a finger saver( I needed that last year too). Quick question though, will the pumpkins rot from the wet floral foam or do you not leave it on for long? Thank-you for this most lovely of posts on a Monday morning that Benjamin and his “Gem” both enjoyed immensely!
Hi Ellen, Thank you for your sweet comment! The floral foam and flowers will only last a week at the most so it’s not long enough to cause any rot. You remove the foam and flowers when they fade and your pumpkin is good as new :)
That’s a gorgeous pumpkin you used for your centerpiece and full of fabulous flowers too! Love the dinnerware, tablecloth, mini pumpkin arrangements and glassware. The colors are so peaceful and inviting.
I know you are happy it is cooler now. Enjoy your beautiful view and have a great week.
Mary, I adore your blooming pumpkins! The tablecloth is so perfect with the wood slice chargers and the dinnerware…a perfect autumnal setting! Pam @ Everyday Living

Thanks for all this beauty today. Happy Monday!!!!!!
Any kind of alfresco dining with the surroundings of that beautiful lake is always so incredible. I made certain that I had plenty of Oasis floral foam to create these arrangements this year…..you inspired me last year!….What a perfect tablecloth for your pumpkin arrangements!

What a table and what a setting! Wouldn’t the guests be tickled pink to take home one of the little striped ones as a remembrance to a dinner! The flowers are stunning. We are enjoying a beautiful fall day here so I have been taking down gauzy drapes and putting away fairy gardens for another year! Alas!! But I do love beautiful fall.

Simply my favorite fall tablescape of all time! I love how you manage to hang on to the green and add just a spicy touch of autumn! So subtle and so beautiful!
I have made pumpkin arrangements by securing floral foam to the stem before however, your arrangements are just spectacular. The limelight hydrangeas really add lightness and volume to the design. I always shy away from patterned tablecloths but you may have sold me on them. Just beautiful!
So pretty.
Love all the pumpkins and I did see that tablecloth at Home Giids but they had only very large ones..thanks for sharing!!! 🎃🍁🍂🌻

Utterly gorgeous. And thanks for the tips on how to make the beautiful pumpkin flower arrangements. Very helpful!
How do you store your tree-slice chargers? Does the bark around the edge come off easily? Thanks, Mary!
I just stack them. The bark has stayed intact.
