Weekend Waterview: Spooky Steam Fog and Sweating Weather

dsc_4748-2-001

We enjoyed some cool crisp early morning temperatures earlier this week, producing steam fog rising from the warm water of the lake.

Almost a little spooky and mysterious on the cusp of Halloween.

Even spookier and a little scary are our drought conditions and disappearing water on the lake.

And eerie in contrast to the flooding in the eastern part of the state from Hurricane Matthew a couple of weeks ago.

We’ve warmed back up and closing in on a record high today with a temperature of 83 degrees.

I’d rather have ‘sweater weather’ than ‘sweating weather’ in October!

Mary, the foggy lake photos have an ethereal beauty! We are considered to be in the most critical drought area of Alabama, not a drop of rain in October and none predicted in the next week! Always love your beauty that you share!

I love the look of the lake with the steam rising off of it. We’re in Southern California. Welcome to climate change and warmer weather. We are looking at a 65 year drought here. Water is precious.

Great pictures, especially those with effects! I’m with you….tired of sweating weather, now that I’ve acclimated to the cooler temps. Tired of 2-3 outfits per day, too, just to dress according to the changes in one day’s time. Too much laundry!

Beautiful Pictures! So sorry about the heat!!! We finally got lots of rain in Maine. WE were in severe drought and the farmers needed it badly. Our October has been gorgeous and warm too!

Mary, Your lake photos are so gorgeous. Spooky but also so magical! I love early morning fog on a lake, and it’s a perfect time for kayaking as it is usually a quiet time too. We are also in a severe drought in CT. Much of CT is well water and many people are having issues with them drying up. The temps are ranging from the 30s to the 70s and we had snow flurries this week but today is sunny and warm. Some trees have completely lost their leaves and others are still green. They are as confused as we are! It must be frustrating to watch your lake levels fall. I hope we all get rain soon. Linda

It’s always a delight to see your posts. Your photography is awesome! Makes me homesick for the South as I’m in CA now. I LOVE your dogs!!!

Pretty photos of the fog. We passed over the lake yesterday going to a horse show but we didn’t saty there for the weekend….

Love the pictures, but always love anything with the water. It does look ethereal – early Creation. We’ve had a little bit of everything – cooler temps, rain, snow flurries, and then now back up in the high 50’s – mid 60’s. Had a great bon-fire last night as the leaves came floating down. Love Fall!

What beautiful photos. They look like great art – definitely frame worthy. After five years of being in FL for October, l am loving October in MI. I hope you get rain soon.

Thank you for the incredible and amazing photos this morning. Matthew visited those of us in northern eastern NC. Fortunately for us our small town did not suffer from devasting flooda as others nearby did. Hope your part of the state gets the rain you need soon.

Love the spooky photos! 88 in Dallas today, I feel your pain! And just two years ago all of our lakes were down severely, but today they are at 100% — hoping that happens for you soon, also! Happy Halloween Mary, I have really enjoyed all of your fun posts! xo, Andrea

Gorgeous photos Mary! Spooky shots for Halloween Eve! We had some spooky scenes on the patio yesterday with smoke floating through the air from the grill, I wish I had photographed it–I’m with you, I am tired of sweating in October! That is so ironic that you are dry while there was flooding in another part of your state…hopefully we will all get some rain soon-

Mary, your foggy view of the lake make stunning photos. A couple could be a painting. We are enjoying very mild days, but still not sweater weather here. We had a brief tease early in the month, but only a tease. Like you, I’m ready for the sweaters.
Our lake levels are fortunately at 98% full, but we haven’t had a good rain in a month or more. We need it! Enjoy your day. Happy Halloween!

Spooktacular photos of your lake, especially the one with the bats added on! Sweater weather in Rhode Island and I could not be happier. The family went on a hayride and corn maze trip last night. My 2 1/2 yr. old grandson was beyond thrilled with the pumpkins and cornstalks. Perfect Halloween fun for all! Your Halloween posts have been the best and I will miss them- always save some for revisiting though. Thank-you for another terrific post and the delightful photos.

Great photos. There is something so serene about foggy mornings.
It’s only sweater weather if you get out for a very early morning walk. Then it warms up quickly but it could be August still. We are in need of rain too. It’s been a month and not any in sight.

I agree with you about liking sweater weather better than sweating weather. We, too, are having what I call sullen weather…warm temps, high humidity and brownish cloudy skies. I’m ready for cool weather to come and stay!

  18. October 30, 2016 at 3:50 pm

Actually, we seem to be fluctuating between the two! One day turtles and sweats and right now I’m in shorts and a tank top… Lovin’ your eerie fog pics Mary, Happy Halloween! Have a howlin’ good time and give The Girls a goodie for me:@)

Love your eerie photos. We have been so blessed as of late. Our weather is just about perfect in my book. 60’s and 70’s for the last several days and it is continuing for at least another week. Truly thankful.

  20. October 30, 2016 at 8:46 pm

Mary, your photos are incredible! I especially love the light that you’ve captured on the one of the dock! Here’s hoping that some rain will soon fill your lake to normal levels!

  21. October 30, 2016 at 9:51 pm

Love the pictures of the early morning fog on lake. It looks peaceful to me. Our weather here in my part of NC has been in the low 30’s at night but today it was in the upper 80’s. I love all seasons but winter is tough for me. I am still liking the sweating weather. Happy Halloween!

    GREAT PICTURES!

  23. October 31, 2016 at 7:29 am

Ooh Mary, your photos are so eerily beautiful and perfect for Halloween. I’ve been, not particularly enjoying sweating weather and was out in shorts and tee shirt for the last several days, while keeping my almost two year old granddaughter. We did have fun collecting burr acorns and playing with my fairy garden.

  24. October 31, 2016 at 9:52 pm

Gorgeous Photos…worthy of a book…my dear. Here in Chicago—we still have 1/2 our trees totally green and flowers blooming like crazy. Very weird year, at least 2-3 weeks behind what should be nightly frosts and maybe even some—of that un-nameable white stuff. Grins, super post, Sandi
