Weekend Waterview: The Crystal Coast

We visited the Crystal Coast of North Carolina for a long weekend with friends.

Enjoying a little bird watching, fishing and scenery.

I always enjoy looking at boat names. . .

Fishing widows must be pretty common on the Crystal Coast. . .hence a Sea Wife ;)

We spent a day in Beaufort, NC where I spied this wrought iron gate with sailboats.

We won the weather lottery three weeks after Hurricane Matthew blew through, with sunny skies and temperatures in the 60s.

Pots are still blooming along the dock on the waterfront.

It’s always fun the see the boats at the marina and their home ports, from Bristol, Rhode Island. . .

to Walkers Island. . .

And Portland, Maine.

Bikes are for rent. . .pick your favorite herb, Parsley, Sage, Rosemary or Thyme. . .

Basil

or Lavender.

Or reel in a Mullet, Marlin or Trout ;)

We took the ferry over to Shackleford Banks for the day for a little surf fishing and with hopes to see some of the 100+ Shackleford Banks Wild Horses who have resided there for hundreds of years.

Success! I spied two and stalked them with my zoom lens grazing on the grasses.

Whether you reel in any fish or not, it’s hard to beat the view staring across at the Cape Lookout Lighthouse.

Cape Lookout Lighthouse is painted with directional diamonds~ white diamonds facing east & west, and black diamonds, north & south.

It’s the only major lighthouse that operates during the day with its rotating 1,000-watt beacon flashing every 15 seconds 24 hours a day.

15 seconds seems like a long time when trying to hold your camera steady to capture the flashing light ;)
