I have an exciting bit of news to share and a little giveaway for shed lovers! My Potting Shed is featured in She Sheds: A Room of Your Own, by Erika Kotite, published by Cool Springs Press/Quarto Publishing Group, available January 15th!
My little shed was honored to be included among the examples of she sheds in this book! You can find her in the “Sheds for Gardeners” chapter. She Sheds by Erika Kotite, shows you how to create cozy getaways with inspiration from across the country. Start by defining the goal and purpose of your space. Will you use it for entertaining, crafting, or alone time? Then, use the gallery of over 100 photos as inspiration for your decor, paint colors, and landscaping. You’ll even find fun upcycling ideas to personalize your space.

How exciting! Congrats on your she shed being featured in a fabulous book. I have a she shed too. Mine is in her early stages of beautification. She will be wired for electricity and insulated and finished out to be an art and craft studio and a hideaway where I can listen to my crazy music (no more complaints about my gypsy electro swing jazz!), paint the ceiling like the sky and hang a chandelier if I want! She is currently semi functional as an art space, but limited in the winter here since it is so cold. Your shed has been such an inspiration and This book is timed perfect for even more ideas in the making of my little Bohemian Cottage. 😊 Thank you!

This is so wonderful! I loved seeing the journey of your potting shed through the years. Monkey see, monkey do…I would try to emulate your potting shed exactly, storing all my garden items, and hoarding {smile} dishes and other things to make it pretty through every season. I have been secretly dreaming of replacing my hot tub in the courtyard for a potting shed for at least 4 or 5 years now. It’s the perfect spot, and we rarely use the hot tub (it’s huge). Congratulations on having your shed featured! If I had a shed, I would have a place to read, relax, and plan my garden plantings and renovations. It would also be an awesome place to throw open the door, watch and listen to the birds, and observe the clouds as they moved thru the summer sky!
Being inspired by your shed, I now have a garden shed and for now it is a utility shed and a work in progress.

I have been following you for a long time and always dreamed of a potting shed , however, I work in retail and after 10 hour days it leaves me with little motivation to start the project. My company recently relocated me to Connecticut and the house I purchased had a greenhouse. Wow I thought I can turn this into my greenhouse/potting shed. Wish me luck this spring I would use the book for inspiration but really I just would use your blog.

Perfect that your lovely shed was featured in this book. Your blog and pictures are truly an inspiration. As I have a goldfish pond, vegetable and herb gardens and the challenge of landscape in Texas with huge red oak trees, I would use a shed as a place for the tools and supplies that I use for each of these features in my yard. It would also be a lovely place to display my collection of birdcages.

I love your site and the intro into your life. I have an open area in my back yard that I use for recreating my collectibles and change about weekly! Most of the inspirations have come from your posts and magazines and I love how you introduce new ideas into the display. I have a little pond that I enjoy the constant sounds and I love to add my metal décor on the outside of the cabin as if it was a shed. I always find something special in you site, if not for the boat ( I have loved all the pillows and things I decorate my pontoon with) to recipes, to using odd and end cups and saucers for flowers. I have the reputation for being able to give the mot beautiful bouquets from my yard even when nothing is in bloom!
I collect wall pockets and have 2 crystal ones on an entrance door frame that hold fresh greenery and flowers all the time. Everyone that walks into my home takes notice and I love how happy the flowers make me feel every time I walk through! It IS the little things in life that make the soul soar!
I think it is so honorable that you have been chosen to be included in this book although I am not surprised!

Oh my gosh!!….So, so exciting!!!! Congratualtions!!!…You so belong in that book!!!…I cannot wait to get my copy, as I want to have one built when we build our downsized home…downsize the house, upsize the shed! Never had one and want to have one in the future to “play in” and use as a greenhouse.
We recently downsized and I had to get rid of many of my beloved dishes that I had collected over the years. I would use my shed for collecting which would give me an excuse for shopping all over again!

I had a she shed at my old house. Planning (dreaming) of my shed at new house. I will use it mostly as a garden shed but can also see myself sitting on porch with cup of coffee during a rainstorm!, I would like it to look like a log cabin.

Your potting shed deserves a book of it’s very own Mary, but how exciting to be included with others in a book that sounds so full of fabulous ideas! I’ve wanted a She Shed for years and even more so after meeting yours and your blog. Should I ever be blessed enough to have one I would love to do a little plant potting and crafting. A place that’s just mine to do with what I want and decorate how I see fit. It would be a place of liberation!

Oh if I had this shed I would have doors that open wide to the beauty of the seasons in the yard. I would fill it with all those mismatched dishes from grandma. And all the eclectic yard ornaments, both rusty and sparkley, that I brought with me from a large yard with herb patches to a much smaller city space. Shelves for my gardening books, including a set of publications that featured monthly Victory Gardens. And a table filled with a pitcher of strawberry lemonade and little cookies or hot spicy orange tea and apple donuts. Three chairs, a cushy dog bed. A woman can still dream like a girl, right?

Congratulation Mary on being included in the book! My shed seldom looks anywhere close to as nice as yours, but it serves my purposes well. All my sewing and craft items are contained inside along with antique tea pots and cups. I have to do my potting on the porch, but our weather usually co-operates nicely. Every woman should have her own at some point in her life. Winning a copy of the book might inspire me to do some much needed housecleaning.

I’ve enjoyed your blog for years now, all aspects of your posts. Like you I live on a large lake and enjoy my blessings daily. I have been trying to decide where my She Shed will be placed so I can enjoy it for times I need a rest from veggie gardening and berry picking, and bulb planting, daylily, peony, and iris dividing and replanting. It would house my extensive gardening library, and a twin bed for naps and a great chair for reading. Thanks for considering me and your generosity.

The book was a feast for the eyes. . . .my she shed would be used for planting and dreaming and reading and all sort of girl things . . .no tires or fishing rods or TVs.
If I had a She Shed I would decorate it with all of the vintage items we have inherited that I have no space for in our home, make sure to put a coffeepot in it and lots of great books to read! It would be a refuge of sorts from the noise of the world and a place to quietly reflect on my many blessings.
My husband has his man cave i.e. The basement. I would I’ve to have my own space to dream, putter and dream. Congratulations on your book inclusion, you deserve the recognition.

I Love to paint and I Love to Garden. If I had a She Shed, I would use it as a painting Studio wher I could paint my treasures I find from thrift stores. I would have a little area for my garden items and potting my plants. And maybe even have a little reading area in a corner. Thank You for sharing this wonderful Book. I have never heard of it.
Mary..I dream of having a Potting She’d just like yours..out of all my Pinterest post..your Potting Shed is the most Pinned.. since my husband and I married in 1981 and before..I have collected and use so many old tools that my dad shared..he gardened after working long hours in textile mills..he has taught me the love of the land and the beauty in flowers (mom’s flowers as she always bragged but Dad did the work). Up until last Spring he planted several rows of Zinnas in his garden along with vegetables.. He is 87 now and has memory issues and is frail..now I plant the zinnas.. when I get my She’d which is the way I like to spell it..I plan to have a spot in a corner to sit..reflect..reminance..of the Love of the land and soul that Dad and Mom have taught me.
If I don’t win..I will definitely be buying this book because of you.

I have been pointing out sheds to my husband and teaching him the meaning of a she shed — he knows you as my “blogging friend with the little white dogs” and that my fascination is all because of your beautiful blog — and telling him a shed is first on the list for our next house. I will use it for my pots, messier crafting items, and some dishes (!), indulging myself in decorating it differently from my own house, and I think I’ll have a tiny courtyard with an outdoor table to set, and a swing on the porch…a bird feeder and birdbath…I was considering a little guest retreat but that will depend on the weather wherever we go…I may just move into it myself! My “shed” is a sad corner of my husband’s shop. If I had a shed, I would love it to be just like yours. I have a ton of great vintage garden stuff that is tucked away on messy shelves. Your post has inspired me to at least neaten the shelves and claim a bit of wall space.

I enjoy seeing your seasonal changes in your Shed. I have a studio (not detached) in my home which is my refuge. I have my painting supplies, a comfy chair and ottoman, TV and my desk. My daughter says if I had a fridge my dog and I would never have to come out.

Aww, Mary! How HAPPY we all are and so very Proud of you and “our” darling potting shed! She’s a beauty and deserves to be featured. You know I love her the best out of all the features. I do have a potting / storage shed that my husband and I built years ago and she has a porch. She is white with green shutters with pine trees cut out and the porch is green. She has one long window on her south side, but it doesn’t open and I wish it did. May have to change that. Her front doors are double French doors that open and that is my favorite feature. I have half of the shed as the riding lawn mower and the power washer are on the other side. I have shelves and a small desk someone threw out and we fixed the leg and the front drawer to it; it is the perfect size and has little cubby squares to store seed packets in! :) All my clay pots are stored in her and the gardening items. I love her and take pleasure in cleaning her out. We recently have hung a gardening / bird flag from one of the front posts and it makes me smile. I am eager for spring to clean and tidy again. I really don’t mine cleaning her, it’s fun and of course decorating with gardening items, ball jars and some old dishes. Now that I may be forced into retirement, I know she will bring me even more joy this spring and summer when I can spend more time in her! I am a newbie to your blog (a couple of months), and can honestly say I have been blown away with all of your talents and inspirations. I keep returning to your archives for more pictures and recipes as I now realize what I’ve missed out on for years. You are a treasure. Please enter me for the book.
I do have a garden shed . I can only use it in the warm months as it is unheated and I live in Michigan. I read and listen to music there. It is full of garden books and collections of things that have caught my fancy. I have shop project dogs and cats, chalk carnival prizes, whimsical wall pockets., paintings of flowers, watering cans, toy sand pails and shovels, vintage flower pots, flower frogs, vases and garden tools. There is a desk with many drawers, a corner cabinet and a comfy chair. It is packed with things that make me smile. The book looks lovely, and I always love your posts from the garden shed.
Don’t have a she shed yet but when I build mine, it will have room for all of my crafts and roomy enough for me to do yoga in. I keep a collection of them on Pinterest for ideas. I love yours. It’s beautiful how you change it for the seasons. We live in California and really don’t get much of a change in seasons so mine will be more stable in design. Plus it has to be connected to my hen house and my chickens. That would be lovely.

Love these are lovely sheds. Had one for a short time and truly enjoyed my “mama cave” as the hubby called it. Even had a bar size refrigerator. They are so much fun to not only use but to decorate. It would be so nice to have another …
Mary, I have long admired your she shed. I would love to have one of my own for decorating seasonally, gardening, and puttering. I could also use half of my she shed for storage of my many Christmas decorations.
I do not have a “she” shed but have always longed for one. I would use it mostly for gardening but your beautiful photos definitely inspire other uses as well.
How awesome – Congratulations!!! When I lived in NJ I had a great little shed – which I decorated and filled with beautiful things; including a small table and chairs for tea parties. My girls were very young then. I remember what a treat it was for them to sit for tea with me. Now they are 25 and 19 and yes, we still have tea parties. I have a dear friend who had a shed built as a birthday present a couple of years ago. She had collected vintage windows and had a handy man make the shed for her. She is a master gardener here in SC and would invite us over for garden parties.
I spent most of my visit admiring and wishing for her beautiful shed. She called it her sanctuary. Every time I visit, I bring her something to add to her collection. Like you, she places the most unusual and lovely treasures in it. Weather permitting she has her coffee in her shed daily. I would love to have a shed of my own. Perhaps someday… Thanks for sharing.

I have severe Fibromyalgia and cannot Garden the way I used to. It breaks my heart. But a she shed would afford me the opportunity to have a lovely place to have tables at my height and a chair to work on my planters and other plants for my gardens at my own pace and my leisure instead of having to always put things away. I have a She Shed and it was modeled somewhat after yours! After seeing your shed, I nagged my hubbie until it beacame a reality! I use it for gardening supply storage, Christmas decoration storage and craft supplies. I decorate seasonally and use your Shed as inspiration!! If I had my own She Shed I would paint and knit. I would decorate it in a casual, comfy-chic style with a comfortable chair or maybe even two so that I could have a friend for tea. It would be my grown up play house!

Lovely, Mary! Congratulations! I do not have a ‘she shed’ but have been dreaming of one for years. What I DO have is six children and their six spouses, as well as eighteen grandchildren, so I would love a place for myself. We also have a tiny three room shed out past our garden. Two rooms are full of scraps of tin roofing, straw bales, and an empty rabbit hutch. The third room is an in-use chicken coop with an outdoor pen off the end. I would love to clean out the junk –but of course keep the chickens and ducks. Then I would set the empty rooms up with a place to pot my newest plants and an area to read, journal, and plan my next year’s garden. I will not put up inner walls but would paint the inside to bring in more light, and leave the studs for hanging things. Our compost heap is nearby, and I would set up a little nursery area between it and the shed to give volunteers a head start. It will be my own little getaway. I’m dreaming about it already! I’ll start now, and it should be ready for spring!

Oh Mary, how wonderful your she shed is in this wonderful book. I don’t have a she shed, but if I didn’t, I’d use it as my escape to the beach. Fill it with turquoise, lime greens and a touch of hot pink. Lots of palms and shells. I can only hope one day…..

Dear Mary, how wonderful that your she shed is featured in a book! I would love to have my own space, right now! I am in the middle of refinishing an antique wardrobe in our garage next to the back door. The mess drives me crazy! If I had a she shed, I would use it as my furniture painting and refinishing studio. When I finished a project, I would close the door and sit on the porch and drink a cold glass of lemonade!

Oh my goodness! I would decorate it to please my taste and put it to use painting again. There is no space in the house to set up my paints and easel. Also my girlfriends would come and paint also. And when we aren’t painting we could use it for a tea party. Us friends do love tea parties.

If I had a she shed, I’d use it for arranging flowers. We always have fresh flowers in our home, and I have a stupid amount of vases and vase alternatives. It would be great to have the storage for all my vases, and I’d also like a sink in it, of course!

How fun is this, congratulations! I do have a she shed. My hubby built me a greenhouse/potting shed from salvaged materials. It is rustic but I use it for gardening, growing seeds, overwintering geraniums AND as a space to sit in the warm sun. I’ve been known to say that it is summer in the greenhouse during winter months.

I have a room outside my house, made from a former carport. I use it for my crafting, scrapbooking, and floral designing. I, too, live on the lake & love gardening. I dreamed of a potting shed so my sweet husband made my dream a reality. I told him I wanted it to look as though it had been on our property for years. He used salvaged lumber, beams & rock from my grandmother’s farmhouse that was built in 1795. The windows came from an old house in our area & the screen door from another farm house. He fixed it so it slams shut just like my grandmother’s did. It was completely just before the holidays, so I look forward with great anticipation to many hours of relaxation as I plan & prepare my flower gardens in my shed!
I have followed your blog for quite a while and love it so much. You are so talented in everything you do! I do have a potting shed which I love to decorate in my vintage goodies. I’ve gotten lots of ideas from you especially the use of dishes in decorating it. Would love to win this book!

If I had a She Shed I would have lots of shelves to hold all the Knick knacks I adore from childhood to all the things my boys have given me when they were young. I long for a “she shed”! I’ve worked outside the home and primarily in cancer care my entire adult life. After an early retirement due to worn out feet and shoulders, I find being a homemaker just “so daily”;nothing stays done. I’ve taken some art classes on the internet since retirement but find myself struggling to create when I can see chores needing my attention. A she shed would be a place to draw, watercolor and dream where the chores of the household can’t intrude.
I don’t have a she shed, however we are putting up a new greenhouse in spring that is 8×10. There maybe some room for fun stuff—as we will be building a new base and location for it. Grins, please enter me, the book sounds wonderful!

I have a shed but it is just that, A SHED. A smelly place for the tiller and garden chemicals and dirty tools. I dream of a pretty place but I don’t see it in my near future. I kid you not – I have been dreaming of having a “she shed” almost my entire life. You see, when I was young I played with a neighbor girl who was an only child of an older weathly family who owned the biggest construction businesses in our entire area. Her father made her what they called a “play house,” but it was SO much more! It was full size, completely decorated, had a loft, two twin beds, electricity, heat, ceiling fan, charming built ins, high shelves all the way around for her collection of Gundt dolls – it even had a tv!!!! It was my heart and soul. I still dream about that space and wanted a totally girlie space of my own ever since. And we’re talking about a long many years!
I find it is one of my all-time favorite things to look at and wish for. I remember years ago before Fifi O’Neall became famous a photo spread of her sweet little “she shed.”
If I had one I would shabby chic it to death with girlie soft pinks, and whites and it would house all my teacups and teapots and antique lace – everything I have collected my entire adult life but don’t show anywhere in my house. I don’t girlify my space since I am married – we keep it calm and neutral and comfortable…..but this voice in my hearts says YOU NEED A SHE SHED, MICHELE!!!! And I would have tea parties in a shady flowery gazebo with a she shed close by, yes I would, if dreams came true!
Guess who just became a new grandmother for the first time? And guess what? It is a GIRL! And guess what I just discussed with my husband a few nights ago? Possibly having a sweet girlie play house for her in our back yard. Not sure if our home owner’s association allows it, but I need to find out! Oh won’t that be fun to have little tea parties with my grand child???? OK, I just drooled on my keyboard.

Mary, your shed has always been an inspiration for my shed. I think it’s when it solidified from me thinking about it and designing it to making it happen. So thank you for all the time you take to blog because I can speak for me, you continue to inspire me. My husband and I are almost done with our glorified garden shed. It’s a garden shed that is a 12 x 16 with a ten-foot roof with a windowed cupola. It is mostly a garden shed that also serves for my flower arranging and a potting shed. It is painted with the soffits needing to get finished and a transom window needing to be finished and then we’re done, after the counters covered in metal. Sound familiar? It has been a labor of love. The furniture inside I found at thrift stores and yard sales. They were ugly pieces that were so much fun to transform I have it stocked and have made many succulent spheres, wreaths, and arrangements. I hope to hold classes in it one day for it was designed and built at the same time I created a pollinator garden around it. It has been my happy place and I love that you are a part of what seems like to be a fantastic book.

I have a garden shed lovingly called the jardin chateau. It started life as a rustic storage shed for gardening tools and supplies… plywood walls, repurposed French doors, and a gaping hole for a future window would go, and with plans to one day add white limestone exterior walls. Jump forward 8 years to now. My jardin chateau has been transformed over time from an ugly duckling to a white swan that I use to hold an annual French Country Christmas Event where I sell vintage and new items.

Congrats on having your awesome potting shed featured. I love reading your blog and being inspired by your creativeness. I DO have a shed and it is very special to me. It was on the farm that belonged to my Grandparents and we were fortunate to be able to move it to our property a few years ago. It holds many cherished memories for me. When I was a young girl I took an interest to antiques and since it was used for storage at the farm, it is where I first antiqued! I found old washtubs, jars, chairs, and all sorts of treasures there. Now I have it filled with garden antiques and collectibles. It is my pride and joy. There is just something very special about it.

Congratulations on having your shed featured in a publication…BUT seriously… your shed could be a book all it’s own! Thanks for the inspiration.
If I was lucky enough to have a “she shed” I think I would use it much like you do! It would be such fun to create arrangements and so convenient to store my many, many dishes and seasonal decorations. Right now, I use my dining room table to create seasonal settings even when we aren’t using the dining room. Any, a place to store my gardening supplies would be awesome.
I love the look of the Vintage/Shabby Chic She Sheds! I do love to garden and putter around in my yard for hours at a time. We’ve lived in the house for four years now so the garden and yard are still a work in progress. I would use the She Shed as a gardening/potting shed but also make it stylish and comfortable. I would love to have a She retreat to read a book and have a cup of coffee. My 11 year old black lab mix Jazzy Jazz would be curled up on the sofa beside me enjoying her day with mommy!

My parents had a “shed” but it was always junked up with everything imaginable. It was a fix it shed, gardening tools and lawnmower, broken furniture and those projects that never got to, fishing supplies, and even a puppy birthing shed ! It sits there still and now belongs to my brother now-no idea what if anything he stores in it.
Oh Mary! Your potting shed is EPIC and my favorite one to look to for inspiration. I’m very excited that at my new farm I have a few sheds/buildings that I’ll be renovating!! There are 8 “outbuildings” and I have to prioritize how I’ll be using them and when I’ll be renovating them. I know one will be a studio for me like yours, and I really want to turn another into a bedroom retreat for me and guests… we’ll see!! I have a structure that has a roof over it. It was given to us by a neighbor when they moved to another state. It is vaulted and it held wood for the fireplace. When my daughter was in high school and her and her Dad spent the good part of an afternoon cutting treated lumber to make a suitable floor. I have over the years added boards and have things hanging from the side supports. This publication would help in the next chapter of the space. We built a woodring for outside bonfires many feet in front of it. I totally want to spruce it up and make it “garden girlie.” Please enter me in your give away. Thank you very much.

Last year my hubby announced he was going to build one, and hopefully this year he will get around to doing it. My husband bought me my “she shed” in 2005! We have always referred to her as my “doll house” because prior to the current she shed trend, I furnished and decorated her as my own space to relax, create or tinker. We even built a blue stone patio for my doll house, which is an area me and my husband enjoy using.

Congratulations Mary, what a wonderful and joyful experience this must be. i have long watched your shed bloom and you once told me that much of the decor came from a former shop and I admire your talents for staging. I have the beginnings of a she shed. Last summer (Phase 01) I stained and sealed the outside of the structure in anticipation for doing the inside this coming summer. I have been planting the garden around this shack over the years and the garden is now completed. I decorated the outside of the structure last fall after staining it. I added a roadside find of an old screen door I painted, child’s garden tools, licence plates and various other metal ornaments I have picked up at flea markets and yard sales. And last summer our wren house there was home to baby wrens! I call this the pool shack because one side houses the pool filter and other pool relate equiptment. The biggest side of this structure is going to be my “she shack/changing room,” (Phase 02) First I plan to white wash the unfnished inside walls to create a light and rustic backdrop. I’ll paint the cement floor a pretty color and add a flowery rug. Then I plan to decorate it with chalk painted shutter shelves on which to put vintage collectibles like small oil lanterns, crocks, flower pots and watering cans etc. I’ll have shelves for folded pool towels and hooks to hold clothing for when we are swimming. The overall theme will be rustic vintage and with a garden theme. Our pool is very rustic, very country and so will be my room. I have a small scale comfy wicker chair and footstool to add, a wicker fernery and more collectibles. I am scouting now for a flowery rug. I have been planning on this project now for several years and have been collecting and thinking about how i wanted my she shed to look. I am very open to new ideas and having a copy of this magazine will not only inspire me but help me to pull all of my ideas together. I hope my project can be selected! Thank you. This is my She Shed, but I actually call it my garden cottage. I don’t have any pics on my computer to show you the inside. But I can try to get u some. I love to relax on the porch of my cottage with a glass of wine in the afternoon or coffee in the morning. Inside are 2 rooms, one room has barn wood walls, galvanized tubs and lots of vintage items hanging on the walls. The second room has a Hoosier that holds pots and little collectibles. Small chairs and tables, a chandelier and the walls are painted a light yellow. I have a large shelve that holds all my pots and outdoor statues. I enjoy times in the cottage, friends over for coffee and treats or wine and snacks with my husband and golden retriever, Kato. It’s my little slice of heaven in my Minnesota back yard! Hello Mary~ your shed is just adorable! How exciting to be featured in a book! I used to share part of an outdoor shed with my husband — his side was for woodworking and storage of lawn mower, etc; my side was for my interests of potting, crafting. We’ve recently moved and so I had to say goodbye to all that. I hope to have my own shed in the future, but until then I can dream. Would love to win the book for inspiration!

Congratulations on having your wonderful shed as part of this book! I would love a she shed for a get away spot, but also to showcase some antiques from my family. My mother, who passed away last year at 98, had a baby cradle used by her, then me, and last my son. I would love to have a place for that along with an oak claw foot table and china cabinet from my dad’s family. There are other items too. It would be a wonderful space for reading, crafting, and just “being”. We have an excellent spot in the woods behind our home.

After a long days work assisting customers in crisis (I work in a call center translating for an alarm company-at times when a tragedy has taken place), I would love to have a little place to “escape” from the world’s problems and dream. I would have it be a combination of my sewing room (heirloom quality christening gowns); calligraphy studio & genealogy room.
I can “feel” the creativity of all these women just overflowing! Keep up the great creations ladies!
