I’ve been doing a little nesting this month and set a cozy table for two by our Winter Nesting Tree.

dsc_0485-001

I always feel a little blue after Christmas and miss the soft glow of the lights after the tree comes down. This year I decided to decorate the tree for winter to brighten the gray and dreary days of January, enjoying the twinkling lights, along with some sparkly snowflakes, silver frosted branches and nesting birds. You can see more of the ornaments and the tree, HERE.

dsc_0859-001

My husband’s grandmother’s Crown Ducal Bristol pink transferware, has birds in flight along with flowers, ideal for a little winter nesting and a cozy, romantic table for two!

dsc_0802-001

A bird-topped tiered server provides an edible centerpiece, filled with grapes, strawberries, cheese and crackers. . .

dsc_0704-001

Cheese cut in heart shapes with cookie cutters add a little romance, while frilly carnations add a floral accent, tucked in among the fruit.

dsc_0678-1-001

Beaded pewter finish chargers add soft silver accents along with gray damask napkins, to pair with the burnished silver details on flatware.

dsc_0857-1-001

Flickering candlelight is provided by mercury glass votives to add a soft and shimmery glow to the table . . .

dsc_0687-001

It’s not a romantic celebration without some bubbles!

dsc_0679-1-001

A pair of tall champagne flutes add a little height and elegance to the table.

dsc_0759-002

Rosé sparkling wine is chilling with pretty flower and rose petal ice cubes for decoration . . .

dsc_0767-002

And scattered rose petals are strewn on the table for some additional romance.

dsc_0758-001

These floral rose petal ice cubes are an easy way to add some romance to your wine / champagne chiller! To make decorative floral ice cubes, add a thin layer of water in the bottom of your ice trays. Top with a rose or flower petal(s) and freeze. When frozen, add more water, and top with another flower or petals if desired. Return to freezer.

dsc_1088-1-002

For clearer ice cubes, use distilled water that has been boiled and then cooled. This will reduce impurities and air bubbles that can make ice appear cloudy.

dsc_0734-001

If you want to add floral ice cubes to your beverage or cocktail, use only edible flowers that are organically grown (free of pesticides or chemicals).

dsc_0823-001

Find Edible Flower Ice Cubes to enjoy with your lemonade, summer beverages or cocktails, HERE, and keep your wine chilled and festive with Frozen Wine Cubes with Edible Flowers, HERE.

I forgot to ask this morning when I posted a comment…..How did you get the silverware to stand up in the frogs in one of your previous posts? Thank you dear….Emily

    • January 23, 2017 at 7:59 pm

Hi Emily, I replied to your question on my last post, maybe my reponse ended up in your spam folder? The handle of the flatware was thin enough to fit between the spikes of the flower frog, it was just lucky :)

As I was reading yet another one of your great post, I came across a past one where you featured a cookie press that said Home Made and the cookie was Salted Thyme Cookie but I can’t find the recipe. I would love to make this savory treat if you could let me know where to go for the recipe I would so appreciate it. Thank you so much.

I adore the ice cube idea! Funny how your mind will come up with an idea but you aren’t able to take it to the next level without a suggestion. I have often enjoyed some fresh mint from my herb garden in ice cubes for iced tea in the spring and summer. There were beautiful rose bushes nearby, and it never dawned on me to use them. Thank you for the inspiration!

You are truly an artist. I love the valentines tablescape. Can we see a picture from back a little as if we walked into the room and saw the entire table. It would help me greatly to use your ideas for my table. I have collected red plates for years. They don’t match but they still look great together.

Mary, you are in inspiration! These tables/decorations are just one of the many reasons that I love your blog. So very pretty with the rose petals, ice bucket and winter nesting tree. I just may have to adopt that idea. I get a little blue after Christmas, too, and a nesting tree would be perfect on CoziNest. Breathtaking!

    Hello Mary,

First, let me begin by saying that your photos are magazine quality. Your table is stunning. Romantic and enchanting. I love the Ducal plates. How fortunate to own such a beautiful heirloom from your husband’s grandmother. I love the idea of rose petal ice cubes. I have seen something similar on Pinterest and now that I see the idea being put to use, I am definitely giving it a try. I particularly love your edible centerpiece. Everything works together perfectly.

Side note, love the Christmas lights too. Thank you for the romantic ideas!

Glad to be joining you on this blog hop.

Mary, you’ve created a beautiful and romantic setting. Love the dishes. How lucky you all are to have inherited them. You are so right about bubbly! Thank you for the tip about using distilled water to make decorative ice cubes clearer.

  35. January 24, 2017 at 8:49 am

Mary, This is a very romantic setting indeed, with the rose petals and pretty pink label on the bubbly! And your photos with the lights twinkling in the background are so striking and capture the mood perfectly. The heart cheeses are genius! Your hubby is certainly a lucky guy! :) Linda

  36. January 24, 2017 at 3:27 pm

How smart of you to redecorate your tree for winter as it provides the most romantic background to your Valentine table for two! Beautiful lighting is so important in creating a romantic vibe and you’ve definitely got it. Your pretty and yummy-looking fruit & cheese tray along with the fantastic floral-ice-cube-decorated-champagne-centerpiece make for a very inviting tablescape. As always, your gorgeous photography has captured the essence of how fantastic it would be to dine in this lovely spot. So fun participating with you in this blog hop!

  37. January 24, 2017 at 4:30 pm

Mary, your table is so pretty. Love the nesting tree. The fruit is so lovely and the way you cut hearts out of the cheese is darling. Truly a lovely table with gorgeous dishware, twinkling lights and champagne. The rose petals are an exceptionable idea to add more romance to the pretty pink bubbly. Thank you for sharing your tips. A real pleasure to share in this blog hop.

Everything is lovely. Some many great ideas – cheese hearts, floral cubes, and I agree with missing the twinkle lights in January. I often do a winter tree, so I can keep lights up. I’ve told my family they are happy lights!

  42. January 26, 2017 at 11:35 am

So pretty and romantic Mary! Love the ice cube idea and the cheese hearts- what a great idea! This table is sure to pick up the spirits, add warm feelings to the soul and romance!
