Welcome Spring and gardening season with a blooming wreath for your door using a garden hose, wellies and garden tools.

Our freeze date is April 15th and I’ve been circling the garden centers in anticipation!
Despite the flowers calling my name, I’ve resisted temptation, learning the hard way over the years
how unpredictable Mother Nature can be. We’ve had balmy, spring weather in February
and frigid, winter weather in March.
After warming up again with a couple of weeks 70 degree temperatures,
we had a hard freeze this past weekend.
I hung a garden hose wreath to welcome spring and gardening season on my Potting Shed door.
I wanted to use real flowers on my wreath, so decided to incorporate a pair of wellies / rainboots as vases. . .
making it easy to drop in a bouquet of wildflowers, hydrangeas or even greenery!

I found a lightweight 25-foot garden hose at Walmart,
an ideal size and price for a wreath.
Coil your garden hose to the size that you would want your wreath to be,
using cable ties to secure the hose.
I used green garden twine to cover the cable ties,
and tie on garden tools and gloves to decorate it.
I used my MacKenzie-Childs Morning Glory gardening tool set
to decorate my wreath (too pretty to dig in the dirt with!)
but ideal for Tabletop Gardening with Bunnies and Spring Bulbs.
I purchased the rainboots at Target several years ago -> my stomping ground. ;)
To hang the wellies, I added grommets using a kit similar to this one.
They’re tied together on a piece of sturdy jute ribbon that hangs from the wreath hanger.
I dropped in a plastic cup in each boot to hold water for the flowers.
Our azaleas are blooming, making an instant and easy bouquet
of pink blooms for the wreath!

One Part Soil
Two Parts Water
Three Parts Wishful Thinking
I think I need to amend my recipe to four parts wishful thinking
with my growing list of shrubs, flowers and trees to plant! 🌸
This is a fun and easy wreath to make to hang on a fence, shed door or porch for spring!
You can also recycle an old hose, cutting it to the size you need.

WOW!! Those beautiful flowers…just gorgeous!! Right now, I’m happy to still have some tulips with all the up and down tempts. I love the wreath and am working on one as of now. Gonna have to buy full size hose, the ones I’m using are partal hose but ha nossels on each end.
Mary, your garden hose wreath is too cute with the blooming wellies, and it is perfect for your potting shed! I would never have thought of using a garden hose. I am anticipating planting and digging…we had a light freeze on Saturday morning. Happy potting!

LOVE your gardening tool set! This is a great idea and I could make one for my daughter who is NOT a gardener at all. I would use faux flowers that could stay on the wreath all summer! Have a beautiful week. I am HOPING our freezes are over. Today is to be 80, tomorrow 84, then back to high 60’s and low 70’s for the week. I am SO ready to plant flowers!!!!

So clever! Love the wreath but found myself drawn toward the watering can collection. I’ll have to start perusing garage sales for some of those metal watering cans to make one of my own. Hope you have time to do all the spring projects you are dreaming about! Already deep into things here in my Southern CA garden :-)
Mary, this is so cute!! I do have an older hose that was already cut down so I intend to use it. My wreath will just have to have garden tools, gloves and few sprigs of silk flowers as my rubber boots (which are black with pink, purple and yellow polka dots on them from Tractor Supply) are on the front porch with a display in them. :) Also I don’t have a grommet maker. I like how you even covered the white zip ties with the green garden string which also holds the tools. My tools aren’t as pretty, but they’ll work. I’ll hang it from my white picket fence that is next to the garden shed, along with the two watering cans which are on display along the fence. What a fun project! Thanks!!
Your garden hose wreath with the blooming Wellies, is just so cheery, Mary, and such an easy Springtime project. Your azaleas are so gorgeous, too. I recently replaced some old shrubs, that were looking scraggly, and in the wrong spot, with some pink azaleas. I’m looking forward to watching them grow. Happy Easter week!

I saved a little pair of Ms. C’s rubber boots, with the intention of planting something in them. I like your idea of making them into a vase instead. Much nicer & easier, too!

I must admit when I started reading your blog for today, I thought to myself…this is a little extreme! Overall, I found the door works, but I really didn’t think I’d arrived at that conclusion. I really thought the galvanized watering containers hanging down the chain looked adorable and I really liked the color of your front door. In Reality, it design worked, but I could never be so bold or brave to put a watering hose and rubber boots on my front door. Yes, the sign was cute and very fitting! So, it’s safe to say…this design floats your boat! Lol!

I daydream though your lovely postings & gorgeous weather. In NE New Brunswick Canada, we’re still waiting for the snow banks to dispensary. Our safe annual planting time is after the first full moon in June, this year June 10th. I’ve been taking in ideas & look forward to seeing the spring bulbs poke through the ground. Love your decorating ideas & thank you for sharing those with us.
Off topic… are Chloe & Gracie sisters? I’ve recently been told a big no no, on getting two 8wk (now 16wks) Boston terriers that are brother & sister. Seeing them together over the past months, how lonely one wee puppy would be.
Not to say my day is very full & lively. Just wondering how you made out with yours.

Hi Cynthia, No they’re not litter mates but came they from the same breeder and are 6 weeks apart. At the time we got them, I was still working and wanted them to have company during the day. We had had a pair of Bichons before, but one was adult when we added a puppy. I will say having two puppies was challenging at times. :)
That is the cutest wreath I have ever seen!! For some reason, no matter how hard I tried, I don’t think my wreath would be as pretty as yours. They say that no one should start gardening in Mass. until after Mother’s Day. Have a great day with those cute little poochies.
