I’m at the table with a little summer fish fun, fitting for a Friday!
It seems like it’s been ages since I was able to set a table by the lake, between a very wet May and June, followed by the extreme heat of July. We had a brief reprieve in the heat and I gathered my fishing supplies and made a mad dash to catch the perfect weather for an easy and casual table.
I reeled in some colorful plates for summer with a school of red and blue fish swimming across the melamine surface, ideal for the lazy days of summer and carefree dining on the boat or by the water. They’re topped with small blue fish-shaped salad plates, landed on a galvanized charger.
The limelight hydrangeas are blooming and thriving in the sun and summer heat, unlike me. ;) I cut some blooms to fill a vintage minnow bucket, serving as a vase for a centerpiece for the table.
Woven napkin rings are hooked with red jigheads, (unused ;) from my hubby’s tackle box. Twisted rope flatware adds a nautical touch, along with a red and white plaid tablecloth, in the theme of summer fish fries.
Seeded glass goblets give the illusion of watery bubbles, ideal for summertime sipping.
How cute! I love the cupcakes, the centerpiece, the plates, everything. I think it would be a great tablescape for a birthday party at the lake. I love the napkin rings, too.
It’s not the HEAT, it’s the HUMIDITY!! Whoever said that must live in ALASKA!! It is BOTH!! Your table is “catching”. Love all the fishes…especially how the blue fish swallows the little white fish…very catching!! LOL!! Well, I thought it was funny..enjoy your 1 day of reprieve…we are waiting for ours!! 🔥🌧🐡🐟🐠🐬🐋🦐🦀❤️
Love the little blue fish dishes. Reminded me I have some white ones I need to pull out of the cupboard and use this summer. I think with this heat they will be on my inside table. I was just thinking how I miss eating meals outside .Maybe August will give us a few cooler days. Ha ha!
The Red Fish, Blue Fish theme is darling! I love the minnow centerpiece and jigheads…they are small touches that add so much to the overall theme. The cupcakes are precious and are so creative! I have a tendency to overlook decor with fish because I don’t like seafood or fish starring back at me at the table, but I do like your tablescape. The only thing missing is something for the dogs, especially because of the fish. Lol! Enjoy the cooler weather, it felt like 105 yesterday where I live!
What a perfect lakeside table, Mary! Two of my grands have been wanting to make the teddy bears at the beach cupcakes again, but maybe I can throw in some fishing cupcakes, too. I think they’d love them, and I already have the twine. Happy weekend!
Your vintage minnow bucket reminds me of my grandmother when I was a child. She loved to fish and did so with a cane pole wearing an old fashioned homemade bonnet!
Glad you had a reprieve from the hot and muggy extremes. Your table is charming and made me smile. Those cupcakes are adorable. You think of the cutest things. All your dishes are right on with your theme.
What a great table! Everything is so awesome, especially love the touch of the “rope-like” napkin rings and the unused red jig heads! We’ve been working on a project in the garden shed and I brought out a fan to help cool us off. Mary, you need to tell your hubby you need electricity in your shed, then you can have a fan going as well. :) Happy Friday!
Mary, this is a refreshingly cool table. Your fish plates are fun with the patterned colorful fish, and all the other fish dishes as well. Love the use of the vintage minnow bucket. Adding in something vintage always adds interest for me. The hydrangeas, well, all I can say is you are one lucky lady to have an abundant supply of these blooms. Stay cool inside on this hot day. I get out in the mornings and late evening, but the rest of the day we stay tucked away with the AC. That said, I need to get myself out for a walk. I’m running late this morning. ‘-)
So fun to read your post and share in comments. You are one creative soul and I look forward to your daily post. You are Van Gogh and don’t even know it with your presentations.
You know I’m loving your fishy fun Mary! The galvanized chargers are so cool with the melamine fish plates and the bait bucket! My guys would love this, especially the napkin rings~ I’m so glad you had a break in the heat, the setting looks cool and delightful! I revisited the Gone Fishin’ picnic too, one of my all time favorites of yours, so many wonderful surprises~ happy weekend!

p.s love your birdbath too
P.S. Just had a thought…maybe you could run an extension cord from the house to the shed to have a fan going in the shed on these so hot and humid days. :)
How cute is this fish table!! Those cupcakes are a fun idea and easy. I have some juice glasses with little fish on them that would be a great addition to your tablescape!
Mary, the setting for your red fish, blue fish is perfect. I love the melamine fish plates and the galvanized chargers. The limelights look so perfect in the bait bucket. I could enjoy sitting here and looking at the lake and eating the cupcakes for hours! It is really hot here, stay cool!
Great assembly of ideas (those cupcakes, centerpiece and napkin rings), and even the play on title and being Friday. Growing up Catholic, I know all about fish Fridays. ;) Happy weekend. Love your lake view. Hoping to hit that area for next year’s girls’ weekend.
Love the cupcakes and your tablescape! I hear you with the heat. I’m in So. Cal, so no humidity but it’s over 100 degrees everyday! Here’s wishing for more tolerable summer day for alfresco dining!
You’ve done it again with a fun themed tablescape! This one is super cute – I grew up on an island and just seeing that minnow pail brings me back seeing my dad and little brother go off to fish. I didn’t fish much, I was the one staying out of the heat and skin-wrecking sun waiting for cleaned fish to cook at the end of the day. : – ) Fresh lake perch – heaven on the tongue and taste buds! OK, I am super homesick right now.
Thanks for the memory-stirring! Stay cool and dry – this humidity is over the top horrible – but we have had a lovely spring and summer up till now – the best in my recollections.
Ok, now those cuocakes are adorable!!! You are so darn creative!!! It makes me smile. Love the table too, sure wish I had a water view. We USED to, until they drained the pond behind us:(:( But I have my ond to look at, thank goodness. Have a COOL day!!!
This is the cutest tablescape I have ever seen. Your “one fish, two fish, red fish blue fish plates are adorable. You really nailed your theme all the way down to the gone fishin’ cupcakes. Love, love, love it!
This is so cute- I like how the dishes were staged and the bright red and white tablecloth adds the perfect summer touch! The cupcakes are so fun and I like how you staged the napkin rings. I wouldn’t do well with the oppressive heat and humidity. We have been enjoying the 70’s and 80’s.
