It’s football season and I’m sharing a sweet and salty treat to snack on while you to cheer on your favorite NFL or college team! Truly addictive, this popcorn mix is a winning combination and snap to make to kick off your tailgate party or enjoy as a halftime treat. Best of all, you can customize it to your taste, using your team colors.
To up the sweet factor, I added some Brach’s Football Candy Corn to the mix, available exclusively at Walmart this fall.
This sweet and salty treat combines popcorn with candy coating or almond bark, along with pretzels, nuts and candy. More of a procedure than a recipe, you can vary it to your taste, changing the candy, sprinkles and quantities of ingredients.
You can find almond bark on the baking aisle near the chocolate. I like the CandiQuik brand for the convenience of the disposable microwaveable tray, but any brand of candy coating will work.
Pop your corn using your preferred method, removing any old maids or unpopped kernels and set aside. Melt the candy coating according to the package directions, microwaving for one minute, then stirring and repeating in 15 second increments until melted. Mix your melted candy coating with your popcorn in a large bowl, stirring until coated, then spread popcorn on wax paper or parchment lined baking sheet(s).
While the candy coating is still warm, sprinkle your team colors onto your popcorn. I used Carolina Panther colors and a combination of white, blue, and black jimmies. You can place your coated popcorn in the refrigerator to speed up the setting up process if desired.
Once your popcorn is set (about 10 – 15 minutes), break into pieces. Add your other ingredients to your coated popcorn~ nuts, pretzels, and candy of choice. For some Carolina Panther blue, I used Chocolate Drops from Party City. The chocolate drops (colored candy shell milk chocolate) are available in lots of colors to match to your favorite team.
To avoid a holding penalty ;) use enough melted almond bark to provide a hard shell to coat the popcorn and prevent it from getting stale: 16 ounces of candy coating per 6 cups of popcorn. The popcorn mix will stay fresh up to a week in an airtight container.

Yummy breakfast treat today! Popcorn is good anytime, and this is a real treat. LSU colors will do just fine, thank you! Popcorn looks delish and those football bowls are so cute! Many thanks again for all you do here…:)
This is an easy and fun recipe for those of us that have to be gluten free. Gluten free pretzels are available and rice cereal works in this. Thanks for the recipe.
Football candy corn???? That is the cutest!! We have some friends coming for a big game soon, I will definitely make some of this in their colors to surprise them! Love the little field cups too Mary, we will be very ready for some football with this tasty treat!

Hi Mary, This looks delish but I do have a question. My husband loves the extra butter popcorn. Can you use that with this recipe? Better with plain popcorn? Gotta find those footballs – they are adorable! Thank you!
Hi Amy, I think the ‘extra butter’ popcorn might become too soft for the candy coating. You could always experiment or just enjoy the candy, pretzels, and nuts mixed with the extra butter popcorn. ;)
We are total sweets and salty addicts in this house, and that looks so good! So far I’ve resisted candy corn, but that’s only because we have a 4# bag of M&M peanuts, and 3# tub of peanut brittle right now, and chex mix, and ice cream and……you catch my drift, I’m sure.
Mountaineers and Patriots!
Ha-ha, you beat me to it Mary! I saw that football candy corn last weekend and thought it was great! Lovin’ your fun napkins and team color sprinkles-enjoy:@)
Hi Mary, this is just the cutest snack! Love the football candy corn along with the other colorful candy treats. I’ll be trying this with Clemson orange and white colors. We share snacks with a very nice couple that have seats next to us at our home games and they will be very impressed with this. You have such great ideas. You are my absolute favorite blogger and I look forward to each and every post. Thank you for sharing your talents with us.
Football candy corn? You find the best foodie products, Mary!! This sounds like the perfect game day treat. I’ve been trying to find fall mini graham crackers to make your bunny bark, which was such a hit. Target didn’t have any yet. If you see any, will you let me know?

This looks so yummy…and so much fun to boot! I guess we’ll just have to pick a favorite team and whip some up!
What a cute idea! I will be looking for some of the football candy corn.
I’m not sure how well I think Garnet and Gold is going to work, but I like the concept.
